Since the maintenance of the houses is very troublesome, the people gradually left these houses and started to move to the normal houses built of reinforced concrete. There are families still living in these houses as settled. It can be found in hotels that are built to resemble cupola houses for touristic purposes.
It is said that this is the place referred to as "Haran" in the Torah. Islamic historians attribute the founding of the city to Kaynan, one of the grandchildren of Noah, or "Aran" (Haran), the brother of the Prophet Abraham. XIII. Thanks to the Euphrates River, which is flowing into the Harran Plain through the Atatürk Dam built in the region, through the Urfa tunnels, Harran has regained its green and productive days in history.

It is the first university established worldwide in ancient history. The most well-known scientists of the Islamic world worked here and trained students. It was established as a madrasa next to the Harran Great Mosque. During the reign of Abbasid ruler Harun Reşit, "Harran University" gained a great reputation in the world. Today, historical excavations and restoration works continue. Harran University, which was established in Şanlıurfa, was also named here.
Harran; It was also a famous center for being one of the important centers of Paganism (Paganism) based on the polytheistic belief of Assyrians and Babylonians in ancient Mesopotamia, where the Moon, Sun and planets were considered sacred. Therefore, the science of astronomy in Harran was very advanced. In the past, one of the three great schools of philosophy in the world was the Harran School. Many world-renowned scholars have been trained in Harran University, whose existence has been known since antiquity.
