Amazing lens, and definitely one that I want to add to my collection. My current favorite wide angle with character has to be the Sony 28mm f/2 Pre-AI (Later Model version), albeit, about double in price. It very much behaves like a Super Takumar, but with that Nikon vintage edge. It's rather a bit different, but I'd trust it for high end work since the Pre-AI models were so expensive, you could only afford it if you did high end professional work. For a wide angle, I consider it the gold standard of what a character lens should be, and I'm very curious to how it would look on your FX3, because it looks amazing on my a7sii
I love my takumars! Both the 28mm f3.5 and 35mm f2 are so awesome four video. The 50mm f1.4 is the best of the bunch though(I don't have an 85mm yet, and i expect it would take the cake) and works amazing for photo and video. A ton of character
SMC Pentax "K" are my favorites. 90% of Taks character with very fast desings. 4/20, 2.8/24, the great Hollywood 2/28, 2/35 (non radioactive Tak), 1.2/50, 1,8/85 (idem 35). That is the real most underrated and unknown lens set.
@@r.d.fodrek I have used both, but have not compared them directly. In fact the 1.9 only for still photos. The early takumars are much more vintage than the SMC or the Pentax K (which are a mix of the best takumar designs, with Contax fast angles). In fact the 1.9 is based on an 83mm f1.9 with an M37 mount. After 1.8, I know that there are 2 different optical design versions. Perhaps the difference is comparable to what you would find in a Canon FL versus a Canon FD.
Super cool lenses, I believe the yellow flares and amazing character has something to do with the way they were made, these lenses have a form of radium in the glass that give that look. it also means that they are slightly radioactive. love the video.
Glad you enjoyed the video. 🙌 Good comment on the character of the Takumar lenses! That being said, people don't need to worry about radioactivity of the 28mm, many people have tested it and it turns out to be harmless. 😌
Those gorgeous circular gold flares are incredible. I wonder how close the SMC Takumar version gets to yours? The Super Takumars don't seem as common as the SMC or Super Multi Coated versions. What exactly does the script of your model say on the inner lens ring? What is the filter size? Apparently there are a number of versions of this lens, even in the Super Takumar range. This video makes me want to go to the art gallery with my Pentax and Minolta lenses.
Thank you for watching friend! Excuse the late reply. Filter thread size of my Super Takumar is 49mm. Model number is 2781972. Unfortunately I can't provide I direct comparison to the other Takumars but you may wanna check out the channel Simon's utak for some more in depth knowledge of the different versions. 🙌
@@MarcelGlas Thank you for the reply. I will test any Pentax lens for flare before I buy, just to be sure. I have the Pentax M SMC 28mm f2.8 but it doesn't flare like that, unfortunately. I'll keep looking.
The Taks definitely have some of the best flares and color of vintage glass. The version one 28mm is even cooler. It’s a larger lens with a bigger concave front element.
I love flare! Its a characteristic that some dont understand or know how to use. Photography is writing with light! Bokeh. Vignetting. Depth of Field sharpness. And with your video:Flare!
@@MarcelGlas I don't know enough about the Takumars. I have the Helios, Canon FDs and Carl Zeiss lenses all cover full frame. Outstanding work. Nicely done. You must experiment with the 55 f/1.8 or f/2, 24mm and of course the 50mm... "Super taks" Exquisite and magical flaring and sharp enough wide open. Looking forward to seeing more of your work...
yes! the super takumar lenses are beautiful! i fell in love with a 135mm f3.5 silver edition that my dad has, its awesome for portraits, i stop using it on sessions cause i dont wanna damage it more , i bought the 50mm 1.4 and maaaaan, its awsome! this lives on my camera. and also can´t wait to make myself a collection of all takumars!
I’ve got a set of Super Multi-Coated Takumar’s 24mm, 35mm, 55mm, 135mm. Sure they aren’t “fast” but films don’t look good (IMO) when always shot at F1.4, most films sit around F4-F5.6.
Lovely vid. Thank You for sharing. I use them (Super Takumar, 8 blades version 50mm), I love it. Greetings from Belgium. I will now search for à 28mm due your lovely video.
In my opinion, Asahi Pentax Takumar lenses are underrated and undervalued. The 8-element 50mm and the 105mm are my personal favorites. I own and use the following: Asahi 35mm f/3.5 Super Takumar (49mm filter) Asahi 50mm f/1.4 Super Takumar (8-element) (49mm filter) Asahi 50mm f/1.4 Super Takumar (7-element) (49mm filter) Asahi 105mm f/2.8 Super Takumar (49mm filter) Asahi 135mm f/3.5 Super Takumar (49mm filter) Asahi 200mm f/5.6 Super Takumar (49mm filter) Asahi 300mm f/6.3 preset Tele Takumar (58mm filter)
@@MarcelGlas The 8-element had a reputation for being one of the best 50mm f/1.4 lenses ever made. Its image quality competed with Leica and Zeiss. I was so impressed with the 8-element lens that when I bought my Leica rangefinder, I never bought a 50mm lens for it. Also, when Nikon became my system 35mm camera, for years I delayed buying a 50mm lens for it because the 8-element Takumar had set a high standard for image quality. The 7-element version was a very good lens but was not as good as the 8-element version. One major problem with the 7-element lens is that it had a radioactive lens element that gradually turned yellow over time. The 8-element was not radioactive and did not turn yellow.
Hey there, I always color grade the footage. If you're specifically asking about the comparison to the modern lens, I did a rough color correction to match both. The Super Takumar renders everything a bit cooler than the Tamron.
@@moviemarathon1680 The color matching between the vintage lens and the modern one was mostly done with an adjustment to the temperature and tint. My coloring workflow, on the other hand, the get the footage looking the way it does is quite extensive.
