- Sheppard Air Force Base with the 82d Training Wing and 80th Flying Training Wing is the largest U.S. Air Force training base and most diversified in Air Education and Training Command.
The 82d Training Wing and its 61 training detachments deliver critical training in hundreds of career fields including aircraft maintenance, civil engineering, aircraft systems, telecommunications and logistics. Each year, the wing trains about 60,000 Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines as well as our international partners on three continents.
The 80th Flying Training Wing hosts the world’s only internationally manned and managed pilot training program.Operating from the Air Force's second-busiest airfield, the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program has delivered 7,100 trained combat pilots to our NATO allies since 1981.
Together, Sheppard’s two training wings continue to deliver global combat capability. It is located in Wichita Falls, Texas.

On this day in 1971 i took a bus from Lackland to Sheppard Air Force base to start technical school.
Same here. Everybody else was getting on a plane, the rest of us got on the bus. I was from Virginia and I had never seen so much flat ground. It was also the first time I had ever seen an oil well.
Went to medical tech school in 1984. Airmen’s club on Friday and Saturday nite. Playing ball at the gym on base. BB king played outdoors on base that summer. Memories....
Attendee in 2005- you Med School Airmen were CONSTANTLY in trouble!!🤣 The Marines enjoyed giving your former squadron "beatings" on the weekends, while the rest of us slept in.
Went to medical tech school Jan. of 1967-May of 1967. Ended up at Charleston AFB, S. C. for 2 years. Volunteered for Thailand & Japan trying to get into Air-Evac for the troops wounded in Nam but was sent to Bitburg, Germany for 15 months. Early out for college. Had basic training at Amarillo in Dec of '66 because meningitis outbreak at Lackland.
It takes a team . . . to accomplish the mission. Go AIR FORCE ! 🇺🇸

Trained there in '79 in the 43132 Airlift Bombardment Crew Chief on the C-141. Went to McGuire New Jersey after school for field training, but washed out. It's a tough course.
Five months of Teletype Crypto School At Sheppard AFB. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it. I had some great instructors that made those five months more than enjoyable. Of course the core group in my class made it EXTRA enjoyable. I really wished I would have been able to do a walk through of my beloved Squadron the 3775th "Country Club" before they destroyed it. I didn't even know the real name of the 3775th. If anyone reads this that was part of the 3775th between January 3, 1987 and June 1 of 1987, I really miss you people.

Went there to train as a Telephone Linesmen / Cable Splicer. 3755th School Sq. White Hall. Sep. 1979 to Jan. 1980. Sent to Norton AFB, California. 1965 CIG / 1835th. E.I.S. Roadrunners. I bet Sheppard changed a lot since then.
FYI was at both, but not for training. Sheppard changed a lot after the BRACs, especially after Chanute and Lowry shut down and many courses were transferred there. That required many new buildings. Also a huge F-22 maintenance building. Meanwhile some old buildings were torn down. Even the running track was moved. Also all the medical training moved to Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio to consolidate medical training for all branches of the military in 1 place. As far as Norton as you may have known we had the oldest average building age in the USAF. Many wooden warehouses, dorms and other buildings (including where I lived and worked) were torn down after base closure. Something about not enough room for state prisoners as well as not built good enough for modern earthquake standards. Oh and the old AAVS/SAGE building out in area 2 was torn down. Not sure what happened to the base housing after they left it to deteriorate. Even before closure I spoke to an enlisted telephone maintenance person who said when lines went bad they just shut them down. I think they had to redo the whole on base phone system after shutdown. Sad both Norton and my training base at Lowry are gone now. Yes Sheppard has some old hangers and such, but I am sure it looks very different than it did in the 1980s.

But ... the USA and it's military needs to solve it's 'leadership problems' in Washington, DC (urgently). Otherwise the european partners have to rethink the european position - in particular as the EU and its (more and more integrated) position in the world changes. In the end we not exclude the possibility that EU-forces could start to politicly balance the EU in and for the world better by starting a (small, but similar) joint programm with Russias airforce as well.
The political will for such a start 'seems to be not to far away'. And the european partners very likely would welcome some of the American pilots to join the new training facilities somewhere in Russia southeast from moscow at the great plains from time to time. If agreed upon by all sides, of course.
