  • In her talk, Rachel first gives us some insight into what it might look like to be in jail. She then follows by sharing how she changed the approach to the treatment of inmates in a correctional facility.
    Ms. Rachel Esters has been a consultant with The Moss Group since 2016; her focus includes, Diversity, Leadership, Management of High Risk inmates, Cultural and Gender issues in Corrections. A special area of expertise is the inclusion of Transgender employees in an every changing work environment. Esters retired from the Larimer Sheriff’s Office as a Lieutenant after 21-years of service during which time she served as, Operations Commander, Special Tactics Team Commander, Colorado POST SME member and Diversity instructor. Rachel authored an article on an innovative program she developed for the management of High Security and Administrative Segregation inmates in jails, for which she honored as the 2013 recipient of the Larimer County Innovation Award. Rachel is the subject of a NIC training video production based on her gender transition while in Corrections, and is a regular presenter for that organization and the BOP.
    Rachel is a veteran of both the U.S. and Army.
