I’ve used windshield wiper motors in Halloween props, and I watched this entire series saying out loud “there is no chance those will have enough swat to move anything.“ Still, the series answers enough questions for me on the software and such that it was really helpful. I was hoping that website would have information on using pneumatic cylinders or even linear actuators. Really get things moving!
Yeah.. I had my doubts too. I used to have my own Haunted House attraction back in florida.. So I still have all sorts of motors and stuff still. I have a bunch of pneumatics too. but from my reading around the x-sim website, much of it could be for building your own linear actuators (which I have not done yet) I have a few more series on all this stuff if you browse around a bit. Working on a new one right now 3 DOF full frame compact sim. I'll be covering all the info in better detail I hope.. Thanks for the comment ! Dave

Thank you for posting this video. It is very awesome of you to show how this can be done quite easily with a lot of preparation. I used to have the DOF-Reality rig which I sold a couple of years ago. I would like to build my own rig and have the technical background. What are the best methods for supplying the motion; the motors you mentioned or actuators connecting vertically to the back of the seat? The motors that dof-reality used had quite a bit of backlash in them which made things a little sloppy. I even used these little mini shock absorbers in hopes of helping remove some of the backlash. Any thoughts on using the actuators over the motors? New subscriber btw and enjoyed your video.

Good question and thanks for the comment. Yeah it might work.. I just have not done it yet. 24 v gives you a bit more force. The one's I used in the 'seatmover' series' were only 18:1 which is pretty different than the 50:1 crab pot 12v motors I use. So the did work but they seemed a bit choppy.. It's hard to tell what you are getting when you buy used motors off something else.. so If you could, I would got with motors that may be more expensive rather than just shooting blind.. If they had a better gear ratio I'm sure they would be fine.. but I would rather use my 12 v 50's on a full frame rig rather than the 24v 18's.. Does that make sense? Dave
Sir, you might consider adding some thermal paste under the heat sink of those motor drivers, will make them last longer, also I believe multi turn pots might work good as well, just a little pully / gear down is needed, you may make those with 3d printer or just from wood, using the drill as lathe, good quality rubber band shall work fine, as little or no load on the multi turn pots, but the hall pots are long lasting.
All good ideas neail, I will be taking apart the motor drivers and showing how they come from the factory in the next video.. wiring part 2.. or something like that.. I've been working with these things for about 4 years so maybe I can shed some visuals on the IBT's.. I didnt want to get into 'pulleys and gears'.. cause that's up to you guys once I show you how they are supposed to work.. yeah.. hall sensors.. they are pretty good.. Check back if you can.. Dave
@@DMAX_DIY certainly, I am working on a hall sensor based pot recently, it's pretty good theoretically and cheapest as anyone can go, I shall share the plans on completion. Got your mail in description. Pullys are theoretically possible but not very viable, yes I agree. About motor drivers it's totally dry, nothing at all, I would also suggest putting another heat sink or just bolting the fets/ drivers on the frame on their face with some thermal paste.

I have some 'artic freeze' grease from when I swapped CPU's on my computer - also have some of the heat sink 'tape'.. which I used on my Monster Moto fan driver chips.. FYI i dont check email all the time.. - I get like 5k email a week from work - so i kinda forget to check the gmail thing.. but I do check it once or twice a month.. Keep pluggin away.. To be brief, the game telemetry data is sent via usb to the arduino. The arduino reads the data in real time and adjusts the motor positions using the IBT-2 motor controllers. Everything starts to come alive after you turn up the Pulse width on the motors. There are many videos about it and I've done a few myself. It's a great project and absolutely works.. I have most of the part numbers and where to get them in the description section of the majority of my videos. I only make videos about DIY motion simulators so take a look in the description (also some videos have the part numbers etc on screen as well ) Dave

Somehow I got my V3 pedals to start spinning again via sim hub.. **they are not broken** they seem a bit weak.. but they do still work which is good news.. As for SB tensioner - Yes I went the dollar store route with bungee cords.. Yes.. in VR It feels pretty real - you dont even think about it - just works.. Ive seen some of the setups the guys use on x - sim .. Read some of their stuff.. Would help a lot filling in the blanks.. Keep having fun RicheyB! I will too! Dave
@@DMAX_DIY I also use Simhub for my pedals. bungee cord seems great for motion builds I'm on a static rig though so I need to get a bit creative. I've seen one done with an electric scooter motor so I might go down that route or I might try to use some RC motors so I can independently pull each side of the strap to simulate tension in turns. I'll try to document it and make some sort of video explaining it since the only ones I can find that have already been made are in French.

Good question Marciocaster.. You could use a rotary, but you would probably have to mess around with the coding withing the arduino IDE.. ** for me its just simpler to use the hall effect sensors for motor shaft position reading..** but let me know if you come up with a solution that could apply elsewhere.. Hi @@oldfiat-ts3vl, my dad had a FIAT Ritmo 70 and my mum a 127. Love the FIAT 127. The AS5600 is sold on board for less than 1.5 € (search for it in amazon or aliexpress). The cheapest hall pot I was able to find sells for 19 € (+ shipping). My plan is to build a support for the as5600 board with some kind of rod on top of it at has a magnet at the end. I have the prototype build in Lego Technics. Since the AS5600 is able to output an analog signal I should I will be able to replace the hall pots. This is just a cost saving measure, as dmax already said, you have so, so, much examples in xsimulator and so many other places using the hall pots that its way easier to go into that route. I'm a cheap bastard and I'm trying to save 60 € (I'm building a 3DOF) and I'm always trying to find to achieve the same results but in a cheaper way. I'm in a middle of a delivery at work that is taking up my weekend and my free time during the week is for my daughters and things around the house. Its a shame I can't place extra time in the shopping cart :)
The motors you recommended are about 160 each now on ebay.. is that price too high? If it is how do I know what type of motors will work, there's alot on ebay just don't want to get a wrong one... thanks alot!!!
I Agree with you Aldrin.. when I bought my first 3 they were $99 plus shipping.. I think the price increase is due to world economics.. I just bought 3 at $119 each plus shipping.. Yes if you are in North America. I would just deal with the pain as they are good motors (just be sure to get the 50:1 instead of the 25:1.. IDK other than that.. Dave

I would like to ask you a question. If it is a movement platform composed of 4 vertical electric pusher, how can the movement of electric pusher be controlled according to attitude data? Do you adjust the rear two electric push rods if you pitch and the left and right electric push rods if you roll?
That would be adjusted in Sim Tools. Each motor will have settings and you can check a box if your motor needs to go a different direction. STools also has the DOF test.. basically you can check to see for sure that your rig is responding the way you want before heading on track, or you can modify.. all through software.. Already have all the material, but I will try to use AS5600 instead of hall pods to try to save some money, lets's see how it goes :)

Are the potentiometers just for tuning the motors? In the final build, I don't see them on the rig.
