    • @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10

      They are called rafter vent baffles. They keep a ventilation gap between the insulation and the roof sheathing so that you don't get moisture between the roof and the insulation as the roof surface heats and cools.

    It looks like your roof has no ridge cap. How is the hot air ventilated? Even with the baffles is seems that the heat would collect at the top and cause mildew? I am trying to decide how to insulate the roof of my shed and I keep hearing you need a ridge cap to ventilate properly?

      I suppose it would make a difference. How much of a difference depends on the environment where the shed is built. In my opinion and location the difference is not worth the cost and effort for the shed I built. Also the shed I built is not going to be lived in, just used as a workshop and storage. I do live in a fairly dry and low humidity location.

    This video shows how not to install baffles. Once you install the first, the overlap of the next baffle goes on top not underneath. You defeated the purpose of the ventilation system. Bad video.

    • @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
      @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10  Год назад +10

      If you install the baffles the way you claim is correct, if you have a leak in the roof or any condensation it will direct the water or moisture directly into your insulation. Either method will not affect the purpose of the ventilation. They will both vent the underside of the roof sheathing. Bad comment.
