    This was awesome. Thanks for filming and sharing. One question. I noticed you didn’t use a ridge beam for the rafters, nor did you use a horizontal piece that completes a truss. Is this a common practice in shed building? What is this roofing style called? I like how simple it is and allows you to to build a second level of storage. Interested in doing the same but wondering how strong it is? I see you used some sort of hurricane ties or something similar?
    Any information is appreciated!!

    • @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
      @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10  Месяц назад

      This roof construction style is common where we live and plenty strong enough even with the snow load we get here. I don't know if if it has a specific name. Yes I used the Hurricane Ties, one on each rafter to the double top plate of the wall. Thanks for stopping by and I wish you the best with your project. Here is a link to the Hurricane Ties I used. 16-Gauge Hurricane Ties - amzn.to/3YeoQ27

    Awesome build! I’m guessing you don’t have wasps there? Leaving the soffit open like that seems like a risk.

    • @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
      @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10  2 года назад

      Thanks Josh! Oh yes we have a lot of wasps here. I completely agree with you on the open soffits. That is one of my next projects before spring arrives. I'm going to use metal window screen to fabricate some soffit vents on this shed.

  • @xAnAngelOfDeathx

    I would highly suggest putting at least 2 cross ties on the rafters to help prevent the walls from spreading outward, especially if you live in a region with any kind of snow load.

(blue strip) 9:25 did you repeat a DIY truss on the outside of the wall with same wood also? - Did you just paint the fascia or did you do aluminum? The corner of the building. What type and size of trim board did you use out here? 8:33 did you do a roof vent the whole length or just 4ft in the center? Perfect video, just needs a little more parts list.

    I have a question will your shed foundation hold up for a long time without the concrete or do you need to even pour concrete for the way you're doing it?

    • @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
      @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10  2 года назад +8

      We used treated lumber for the shed floor / foundation and it's on a bed of gravel for good drainage. We also have good venting under the shed floor to provide air flow under the shed. In addition to all of that, we live in a "high desert" environment so we don't have a lot of moisture where we live. Moisture is what rots wood. We believe this floor will last many many years without an issue of rot. All these factors will determine if a concrete floor is better for your situation.

      I am definitely not the best person to do a how to video on that subject. There are many good videos out there on how to properly build the roof trusses. I used a speed square to draw the 8 - 12 pitch lines on the rafters and I also used an online roof truss calculator to help with the remainder of the measurements. I just googled "roof truss calculator" and used one of the free calculators that came up. After some trial and error and some fiddling around we finally came up with what you see in the video.

    • @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10
      @DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10  2 года назад +1

      I dug a trench to fill with gravel under each skid. This will help wick away water from the foundation skids. You can install windows at any time but the best time is while you are building the shed. There are many options for installing electricity and lighting. I'm using an off grid solar power system for my build. You can see my "Off Grid Workshop Build" videos in the playlist link below. Sorry I don't have a materials list. We just figured what we needed for each step and purchased the materials for that step. (floor, walls, roof etc.) We didn't purchase or use any plans either. We just designed and planned as we built. I did include some information in the description that may help you out.
      I would guess that the total cost today would be twice what we paid for the materials. We got lucky and were just finishing up as the lumber prices were starting to go up. Thanks for the comment and I wish you the best with your build!

      @@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 All good. Thanks for the reply. I'm going through the video counting the pieces of lumber used.

      I hadn't thought of that but it's a great idea.

      @@MarcMkKoy00 Hey Marc, any chance you actually did this? I'm curious for a material list too.

      lumber prices dropped a bit, you might want to go for it. The plywood is the killer, plywood is still expensive. that might never come down.

    Great build - thanks for sharing. Quick question, what are the dimensions for the door opening? width & length?

      The door opening is 62" W by 80" T. Here is a video with more info on the door build if you are interested. ruclips.net/video/-s5FJIsCV6k/видео.html
