😂 😂 😂
Fun fact: wild land firefighting actually DOES fight fire with fire, using drip torches to burn organic material before wildfires can reach it, accompanied by a wide trench barrier, known as a fire line.
I did a technical presentation at university and presented on that :)
see the natives understood that controlled burns of forests were important and kept forests stable and healthy. we fucked it all up

Great video and yes you can fight fire with fire. It is used to fight bush fires. You would call them wild fires. The technique is called a back burn. The idea is to burn all the fuel in front of the of the advancing bush or wild fire and hence starve it out. This technique obviously would never be used in a house fire.
One of the most insane end games ive ever seen
to think magnus calculated all that with like 10 seconds including the under promote
ridiculous
The idea of literally fighting fire with fire is that you set a fire to burn down _all_ the fuel for the other fire at a particular point, to create a barrier the other fire cannot cross. If you control the fire you set properly, you can extinguish it once it finishes burning what you want it to, and everything on the other side of the burn line / perimiter / etc. from the main fire will be protected.
I never knew you could salvage a game after your opponent queens. Most folks I’ve outplayed would just resign as soon as I pushed a pawn to the seventh rank with no hope of stopping it (since it’s usually a forced mate after promotion)
you can fight fire with fire, the idea is you burn an area with a small controlled fire stopping the fire from spreading as there is nothing to burn
3D chess
if magnus got banned he could make a new account and get all his elo back in a day
lmao true
no i wil beat mag nus
true 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wrong he not good
I came to comments to look for this
In terms of fighting fire with fire, controlled burns can be used as a way of making sure wildfires don't start. You can also burn out a big line to stop a fire from spreading further. So I guess you *can* fight fire with fire but it's less about putting the fire out and more stopping it starting / spreading

I like how the video is called "Magnus Carlsen's Greatest Endgame" and it is undeniably a spectacular performance, but if you check the engine lines around 15:38 after Kc1 you'll realize that the engine gives like -5 in black's favor and that Magnus actually BLUNDERED a draw in the next few moves (specifically after playing Kd4 instead of Kxb4). Engines are absolutely crazy man
Wow, Magnus wins from a equal position is crazy.
That was insane for magnus to find that knight promotion to avoid the draw. Vishy was shocked to see that move, and regretted his knight sac earlier.

Bro has balls to call magnus carlsen "stupid" 💀
Fire is used to fight fire in forestry. When you've a wildfire burning, the technique is to light a controlled "back fire" a few hours in front of the main flame front to starve it of fuel.
I guess the analogy works as Magnus starves the K-side of play towards the end of the opening.

@@ep_ion1112bruh what you talkin
Imagine being the pawn so excited to be promoted to a Queen then end up being promoted to a knight
I am Australian and this country is literally supposed to be on fire on a regular basis, in fact there are seed pods that only open after a fire. Also my mother used to work for the national parks so I can offer the following information about fighting fire with fire: you can pre-burn all the flammable materials like dry leaves and sticks in a controlled way so that they cannot fuel a fire later on. This is called back-burning.
Magnus tweeted that he didn't see the stalemate, and only promoted to a knight because he couldn't ind the queen
This is hardcore chess. This players dont mind losing. People normally try to play for draw in that situation
"Fighting fire with fire" comes from a technique for containing forest fires, where you move a certain distance ahead of the fire and do a controlled burn of a specific distance, so when the big fire gets there, it has nothing left to burn.
Or maybe it doesnt, maybe i made that up. Who knows?
I am a firefighter and they use sometimes fire to attack fire, when there is a bushfire they do a controlled fire on the edge of the fire so when the real fire comes there is nothing left to be burned and that helps a lot.
Not a firefighter by any means, but I think you actually can fight fire with fire (in a way.) Essentially, you can stop the spread of a fire by burning whatever's in its path through the means of a smaller, more controlled fire, so that anything which the bigger, more problematic fire can burn (and thus spread through) is already consumed by the time the big fire arrives, essentially smothering it. Generally I think this strategy is only used in emergencies, and mostly in wildfire as opposed to urban fire situations.
Levy, send us your coordinates. We'll drop off emergency supplies.
I legit thought my phone froze, but it was just Levy staring at me.
6:00, This is called a "controlled fire", and it's used to destroy vegetation so that an out of control fire has nothing to "eat," thus causing it it stop spreading.
Fire fighters sometimes do a controlled burn in front of a fire so the out of control fire won’t be able to spread. That’s kinda fighting fire with fire
Fire can be used to fight forest fires, albeit with a certain amount of risk. A controlled burn of a strip of forest will create a barrier to an oncoming forest fire as it will use up all the available fuel.
I'm a volunteer firefighter in Australia, and you can actually fight fire with fire, so to speak, in a process called back-burning. Basically, you pre-burn an area ahead of the fire that you keep under control, so there is no fuel to keep the main fire going. It does depend a lot on the circumstances, though (weather conditions, size of the main fire, landscape, etc).
"The best player in the world residing in India." This is a great idea. I will now refer to myself as "the best player in the world residing in my house."
you fight wild fires, with fire, by burning the "fuel" ahead of the fire, it's easy to control the small fire.... and the large fire burns itself out faster.
Props to the kidnapper for letting Levy record.
You fight fire with fire when you do controlled burns to keep forest fires from getting out of control.
it seems levy's current location hasn't been found so the kidnappers haven't felt the need to move him
"So Magnus opens the game... Sorry, Magnus has the Black Pieces."
Let's be real: It doesn't matter which Move White starts with when facing Magnus... so for all intents and purposes, Magnus DID make the opening move
You do actually fight fire with fire most times in a large Forrest fire. It's called back burning, you're welcome.
I love his death stare at the beginning of every video 🤣
fighting fire with fire is a term that comes from firefighters using small controlled burns to cut off a major fire's "food supply" and blocking the fire from spreading.
Of course you can fight fire with fire. It's called a backburn. What you can't do is stop an avalanche with a horse.
The way you explaing the situation every time is GORGEOUS!!
As a firefighter, you can fight fire with fire in very certain cases, for an example, you could make a small, controlled fire to cut off some of the fuel from a bigger fire, however it's much easier just to make a fireline, which basicly just clears any potential fuel sources so the fire can die down on its own.
Fight fire with fire is accurate. Nod one time if you understand, not three times if you want us to call the local authorities. 😆
5:59 Actually you can, but not in the way the idiom is generally used. The plan is basically set controlled fires so that when a wildfire arrives, all the fuel is already burned.
I'm reminded of an old MacGyver episode where they fought a giant oil fire by setting off a bomb over the core of the blaze. The explosion...ate up all the available oxygen? Or just looked cool. Anyway, that's what came to mind for me.
When someone says it's completely a draw
Magnus: *_nah ima do my own thing_*
Wildland FF here. We utilize drip torches and other various burning equipment to create what we call back burns. Essentially removing unburned fuel between the main body of fire and the homes we're trying to protect. Your videos gave me many hours of entertainment while camping out in the woods. Cheers

I’m not a firefighter but you can fight fire with fire. There are times when firefighters will intentionally light a controlled fire so as to burn up all the fuel in a fires path. You can imagine a forest fire moving towards a residential area, with a large field in between the the forest and the houses. If there is time firefighters will sometimes light part of the field on fire, burning away all of the fuel which cuts off the path of the fire. There was also a time during the massive wildfires in the western unites states that some firefighters found themselves trapped in the path of a raging fire and unable to get support… so the made it to a field, did a control burn in a big circle around them, which protected them from being burned up when the fire overtook their position. Fighting fire with fire
my dad is a firefighter, and you can fight fire with fire, you burn a line before the fire gets to a certain point so by the time the fire gets there it cant keep going because there isnt anything else left to burn
“Best end game technique” - Magnus sacrificing his queen against Hikaru in a championship
Not a firefighter but I am aware of what they do. You can do controlled burns to limit the movement of a fire by restricting the fuel it needs to spread which is by definition fighting a fire with fire
Why am I just imagining Magnus running around the area looking for someone with a queen piece💀💀
Even Levy eye is red, he must be get wrapped in salted blindfold, props to him to stay strong despite being held hostage for days
Yup, firefighter here. In structure fires, no, no fire to fight fire. But in wildland firefighting we actually do use fire to fight fire. We use drip-torches to start small fires to burn-out fuel load from an inside location back TOWARD the oncoming huge forest fire. This is to creates a fire line.
I'm actually a firefighter and a huge fan, in wildfires you can burn areas to preemptively prevent the uncontrolled wildfire from spreading.
