Owner of 08 987.1 base cayman. It is my daily and only car, for the last 5-6 months. You hit all the points of why I got it over a 370z or a BRZ. It has the daily refinement, fits my golf clubs better than my GTI, cheaper to insure and flick ability to be fun when you want it. I have also a tune, and aftermarket exhaust which is a must have on any Porsche to hear that flat 6 sing. I have a carplay HU as well and it's perfect to have the newer tech without all the nannies and weight that cars have today. It's a very back to basics car and I love how balanced it is and how smooth it drives even on 20s. You hit all the marks. This is my first Porsche but definitely not my last. Great video! Keep them coming
The cayman is cheaper to insure than a BRZ or GTI? That is surprising. But as a BRZ driver I could see why you'd choose a cayman over it, even though I actually find the BRZ decently comfortable and nice the porsche interior just seems like a bit better place to be , and a little more practical. And of course the more power.
@@michaelz7927 your experience may vary... but based on my age (27) record and area the average insurance price was 2300/year for BRZ and for the GTI it was 1600/yr and the cayman is around 1100/yr for me. I still really like BRZs and I know my fiance is highly considering one for her next car 👍
Hey thanks again Andrew for stopping by. Really appreciate the kind words sir, yea Cayman is such an awesome car really love how it drives and handles just doesn't feel like any new car on the road while being very comfortable. Yes insurance has a lot of variables, where you live also has a lot to do with it along with age. Surprisingly, cars like Porsche and Corvettes don't cost much to insure because it is typically older Gents that buy them and hardly put miles on it. My friend only pays $67 a month to insure his C8 Corvette. Love all the affordable sports cars like BRZ Miata and these Porsches are great as they seem to be going up a bit in value. Cheers guys
Great review. I just heard from another youtuber how affordable Caymans of this age 2006-2009 are. I am really considering getting one especially due to the cost and the fact that they've nearly hit the bottom of their depreciation. If you're a real porsche fan you'll know its a older body style but in general driving down the road and in a area with not a lot of sports car its sure to turn some heads.
You’ll notice on the market there are many 06-08 models available but it’s the 09-12 models you want. New engine without the dreaded IMS bearing issue found on 06-08 models. It’s a rare occurrence but frequent enough that they changed the engine so take that how you will. Any Cayman is a proper drivers car and truly a pleasure to drive, just make sure if buying a used 06-08 to get a full PPI done ahead of time. Love the Cayman content great video 👍🏻
Yes this is true but beggers can't be choosers lol gotta work with what we've got since these are more obtainable in the used car market, i think this car with a manual and warranty is worth it for sure. PPI is def recommended on used luxury cars for sure my friend, actually this dealership specializes on Porsches and have a service center dedicated to them which is cool. Thanks again for stopping by!
The 06-08 first edition 3.4s does not have the dreaded IMS issue as they changed the bearing design in 2006 here. The same does not apply for the older design Boxsters and 997`s of that era as a lot of them had the smaller single race bearing design.. But even with those, it affects maybe 4% of cars. A small few of the first 2005 Cayman`s might have had the weaker bearing, so I would avoid that year. There were very few made in late 2005, so it really is a non issue. I have been driving a 2006 S for years now and never had even had a small issue with it. Not even a small bulb or anything !! I also previously owned a 997 and a 964 and am a lifelong Porsche enthusiast. One thing to look out for however in the first gen S models is bore scoring , so make sure you have it checked. Less than 5% of cars are affected, but it can happen. Watch out for blue smoke on start up, heavy acceleration, or on the overun after some acceleration. The gear shifter cable can sometimes give you on these early models, so it is best replaced as a precaution if not already done. It``s a small fix. On any car like this, always make sure to have it checked out by a Porsche specialist before committing to purchase and prevent any nasty surprises down the road.
Good review Kevin! I love Porsche cars and the Cayman is looking pretty good for its age - the interior is neat and I really like it. It would be interesting if you could review the 911 cars, 996 and 997 (standard or entry levels) and manual as I have always had a crush on them...
I would love to drive a porsche one day, especially a cayman s. Also as a BRZ owner I'd enjoy seeing you review one sometime, being a "budget porsche" as some would call it. I'd like to know how it holds up in comparison to porsche seeing as you've experienced the porsche experience. Awesome review.
Appreciate that my friend! Yea BRZ and Miata duo are incredible I have a lot of respect for those cars as they are the only real affordable fun cars for normal people. I like this Porsche because its also a solid car we can afford but is also maintaining value and even slightly going up in value. Cant go wrong with either car. Thanks again and stay blessed
The Cayman is definitely one of my favorites especially with the exterior styling. I wouldn't mind owning one of these one day. I did a quick search of the local used options and there are not too many available and they are still pretty expensive. Looks like people don't want to give them up.
Lol everyone's reviewed my car lexus gave everyone the 2021 convertible press car but not to the guy that owns one their marketing team is pure comedy but whatever I have no control over that
There is no doubt that this car is great to drive. The engine is at the back which makes it a perfect balanced car. the only problem is that servicing the engine is a pain. Hard t reach to any part. It’s an endless pit as it ages. It is great when it works.
I don’t know if I should get this or a Lexus RC not RCF. The only dilemma buying this car is no back seats and the 911 is too out of my budget for a 2012+ model. The Lexus RC is also a good option.
Oh yea if you need back seats then this is no good lol RC 350 F sport is an amazing car I reviewed it and loved it and I fit in the back seat as I sat in thr RC F which I just reviewed recently. Trunk is also excellent in the RC cars thats a very good choice
Exhaust Sports Auto Cool please do I’ll definitely be on the lookout lol only because it’s a new car your reviewing on your channel but sneak comment how did it drive was it quiet and smooth as your Lexus
Yea Im not gonna lie bro that thing was pretty next level lol 😂 its got the LS beat but I still like every car in the segment. S 550 was the quietest most comfortable car ive experienced can only imagine what its like brand new
Depends on how you look at it, yes it would be about that much but most warranties are pro rated so you get a portion of the amount you didnt use refunded back. Caymans are becoming very sought after due to the drive, motor, prestige, etc so these cars are getting a certain amount of appreciation in the used car market so you know you won't loose buying one but Miatas are amazing as well
yoo i have a friend that looks like you and his name is also kevin, I was like ''oh this guy looks like my friend kevin'' at the exact same time you said your name in the video that was funny.
This is a great car,but you will have a much better experience if you get a cayman s with the sport chrono package. It's not even about the lowering or sharper steering feel, but the throttle response is what is different in the best way. Many of these cars on the market now don't have the sport chrono package so I don't think people are aware of the difference. You will also, get more on the re-sale value as well. Once you get a porsche with the sport chrono, you won't get another without it,unless you going for the classics.
Was the sport chrono available for the early years like 06-08? Or was that introduced in 09 and after when they equipped the automatic cars with a PDK? I agree Sport Chrono is a great option to have on a Porsche and holds value like you said. Thanks again for stopping by
@@MeynMotorGroup I'm not certain for the 06,but the 07 and 08 have the sport chrono option. I have a 07 and it has the sport chrono and I have seen 08 models that do too. Great cars!
These are also going up in value because people like the Flat-6 and don't care for the turbo 4-pot in all the newer 718s that isn't a GT4 :/ And surely you'll get the ragtop LC to review soon! I'm sure the dealership you got your LC from will be more than happy to accommodate once they arrive! :)
Yes haha I saw they came out with a new GT4 which none of us can really afford so its really just these used ones that I'm interested in lol. Yea I saw my dealership got a 2021 silver coupe in, expensive car im sure they want to keep the mileage down as clients want to buy it with low miles which is why I don't like to drive super expensive cars at dealerships haha. Everyone got the vert as a press car but not me of course, strangely enough I got sent the RC F which I guess is more important as more people want to buy that more due to price. Anyways, thanks again for watching!
Having owned three, i really would class them as the German Fiat, cheap they may be but massive bills await…….so buyer beware……but great when they work correctly, i was very surprised to find that they cylinder linings are like butter and score quite easily, especially 987.1, dont get me wrong I love Porsches just not the silly fragility of the parts, $10000 dollars first years ownership fixing issues with the car, but hey i looked cool even though i was sitting in a puddle……guys do your research before you buy seriously
For my money, I would rather have the much more reliable MX-5 Miata. If I won the lottery on the other hand and was going to buy a Porsche, it would be the new Cayman GT4 with the 4.0 for my weekend toy.
So the Miata is a good topic to bring up and I forgot to bring it up in this review, I talked about it in the Boxster S review but yes Miatas are phenomenal but few things to keep in mind. It drives great but in a more light weight Japanese car way but the Porsche cars everything feels very heavy and pinned down with minimal roll. Also more refinement power and prestige along with being mid engine. But I hear you price wise they are good to buy into, there won't be an appreciation in price unlike the Porsche cars because they make a lot of Miatas relitive to the Porsches. I def love both cant go wrong with either for different reasons. Cheers
