      We only have one concrete supplier within 100 miles, and they said the "$140 a yard" is now a "limited time offer" so those blocks seem smarter at $40 each. Wish I could get them here, I'd have a big stack of them!

    Thank you for showing your take down. You talked about salt on roadways. And you mentioned ( Fluid Film) worked meany year driving the rigs that put the salt & Sand plowed the snow and ice off roadways. The last year I worked drove the salt BRINE sprayer. We had a tank on dump bed ( 700) gallons. Instead of sander box spreader. I would spray down the read drive axil of dump truck everytime I came in to refill tank, or take a lunch break. End of shift. Spray fluid Film all over, I also used WD-40 in spray bottle. Just buy it in gallon container. I can tell you are SALT brine dump truck had no corroded issues on axil. Some of the other trucks that just used water to clean of axil, well I saw a lift base support completely cracked in half. You ask why the other trucks were not sprayed with ( Fluid Film) my supervisor thought I was full of BS, he was a total control freak, very EGO driven. If he did not come up with idea, it was all garbage as far as he was concerned. I can tell you from driving the trucks that get beaten with the salt BRINE the most on vehicle. That ( Fluid Film) works, please people try it. It helps also on loader bucket. Coat bucket with film completely. Let it sink in. It will keep dirt from sticking to your blade's and bucket's, it works.

    Snap over binders, ratchet binders and speed binders ... what next? "Space Binders" ... sounds like a 60's cartoon.
    Last time I had a chance to use a binder there was a choice of ratchet or snap over, I garbed the snap over binder because I had never used a ratchet style and didn't want to take the time to learn in the heat of the moment. Yup it has been awhile.

It was time to tie it down, so I said Chris, do you have rope or ratchet straps? He had one rachet strap that had frozen mud in the ratchet. I told him again for the 57th time, maintain your sh&^ so it will work when you need it. You should also carry more than on strap when you get lumber. He takes after his grandfather when it comes to equipment maintenance.

    @Captain Kleeman The reason why a good drill works better than a impact gun on the chain binders is because a good drill pulls (turns) at a consistent pressure where as an impact is as it name implies uses repeated impact to loosen/tighten a fastener. That is why an impact can loosen a stuck/seized fastener and not break it compared to if you put a long “breaker bar” on the same stuck/seized fastener and pull on it you will break it.
    FYI if you are assembling something that is carbon steel on carbon steel you are far better off using a good quality“Waterproof Grease” than Anti-Seize. Anti-Seize is best used on Aluminum, Stainless Steel and where dissimilar metals come in contact with each other such as Aluminum and Steel. Most Anti-Seize compounds are Not Waterproof nor do they have good lubricious properties. Anti-Seize is meant to prevent galling and to inhibit galvanic corrosion it was not ever intended to be a carbon steel thread lubricant or rust inhibitor. That said some Anti-Seize compound now have some lubricant in them because of the chronic misuse of the product because nobody read the material data sheets and instead thought if this goop turns me and everything else silver that comes near it as well as costing a lot more than a petroleum based or synthetic waterproof grease that it must be better but in reality it’s not. The easy self test of how well or not anti-seize stays around on threads in the weather is to disassemble something you put it on after 6 months or so in the weather compared to something you assembled using a waterproof grease. The reason I keep emphasizing waterproof grease is because many greases that are plant based are not waterproof and even some petroleum based ones because of how they are refined are not waterproof.
    Just a FYI when I was still driving I used to break apart pallets and cut the boards down from them to use as on hard edges to prevent damage and keep my chains from coming loose. Lastly one thing you or DP might consider is instead of a cordless drill to tighten the speed binders I’d use the an good quality air drill (No Harbor Fright) and install a 20 gallon (or more)aux air tank on the truck or trailer that way as long as the truck has air your drill has power and you never have battery problems again.
    Have to say I remember when those concrete blocks were 10 bucks, admittedly they were not poured in as nice as form nor did they have the locking ridge, I think the concrete company I used to get them from went up to 20 a piece but if you paid cash and bought 5 you got the 6th one free

    You can play in your drill, AC power plug in on it. Then you can charge it from your truck with converter. That way you can carry it around with you to chain binders. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Always liked the speed binders. After first seeing them on DP’s or your channel I later saw a video of someone walking thru trade show. One of the interesting products was a radio transponder chip that could be built into hand tools and provide tracking and statistics of the tool to the user on their cellular phone 📱. I thought then and still do that if a person could develop a load cell into a chain link connected to an app via a chip as these guys were selling you would have a gold mine. I thought it would be a natural enhancement to be added to the speed binders since they are already an improvement. With the things I thinking of, you could have an app that monitors your load securement dynamically, provide a documentation trail for transit that everything was secured while transported and an alert if a load needs attention. Tried suggesting it to the speed binder people however got no response. 😂. Thanks for reading my nonsense, always enjoy your videos. Wishing you and your family the best.

    Something also worth mentioning on speed binders, or Atleast in my opinion Because it’s the reason I bought them - due to mechanical advantage of a worm drive setup, it’s very very difficult for them to loosen up from vibration going down the road. For what it’s worth.

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  2 года назад

      Very good point, I've never had one loosen up on me from the binder itself. It's always from things like today, the concrete chipping or something like that.

    • @stevehelline1680
      @stevehelline1680 2 года назад

      Great point Jason. I have also found that placement of the handle against the floor of the trailer allows the handle to act as a reaction bar, storing all the energy and keeping the binder from loosening. Properly tensioned, it should take about 15 -20lbs of pressure to lift the handle off the floor.

    Hey I noticed you had to replace a broken grease fitting some actually come with but if you cut a piece of pipe big enough you can weld it around the fitting just tall enough and big around enough it will protect the fitting other wise they stick out and will get broke off all the time

  • @jasonmckee5030

    Speed binders should recess the grease fittings so the fittings would last longer. Which would mean the binder would stay greased better. That first binder you were working on was very dry and dirty inside. I assume because of the broken grease fitting.

    Mike, @21:33 I noticed that the speed binder cover was off the speed binder, did that just break because when you left the concrete yard, I believe it was fine. YT Boat, are you planning on using prefab concrete floors (Like Andrew Camarata used on his container building) for the second floor or will it be a wooden structure?

    • @bfcmik
      @bfcmik 2 года назад

      I'm sure I saw a video of a them pouring concrete on the floor of the YT Yacht. I think it was hand carted into the structure by wheelbarrow for some reason, maybe a pump wasn't available. Took Mike a couple of days to skin then finish.
