"Whenever a goth dies, their voice is added to the choir at the beginning of This Corrosion."
Best comment I've read so far :-) I think you might be right
Wish i could claim it to be an original
@@TheAbashta love it wherever it came from
And they slowly move into the afterlife of "the temple of love" lol
My religion, in one sentence.
This was one of the "everyone rush the dance floor" songs at the goth club. Man...I miss the club...💜🖤💜
a floor-filler.
Phonographique, in Leeds, Black Lodge Society nights. a goth woman, on speed, clothed in a Victorian wedding dress, dancing in front of me, also on speed. Gosh, i miss being a goth!!!!!
@@crushthevicar Ahh the Phono, that and Riffs were the best.
@@crushthevicarmiss it? Gothies never say die(Goonies reference, I hate that I said gothies)
Rock city in Nottingham on a Saturday night back in the 80s! 400+ goths legging it to the dance floor!
You just made a bunch of crusty old goths very happy.
True old school goth dont get much attention
Them were the days !!!!
Goths dont die
HEY NOW, hey now now......
who you calling crusty? Oh, wait.....
I am one of those old school Goth girls and what one of the things I really adore about you is how open minded you are to listen to absolutely anything! You have no preconceived notion of the song or artist and you listen without judgment. You are a ray of sunshine and I really enjoy your content.
A staple of every single goth club in the land.
And Temple Of Love is played by DJs at weddings
In the whole world.
wow! A Sisters Of Mercy reaction?!!! Ive never seen a reaction to them or really any other goth band before. Would love to see some Bauhaus too.
Check out TENOR REACTS! He's a Goth that reacts to all types of music, not just Goth, but Goth as well since he's Gothic! He's reacted to Sisters Of Mercy and Type O Negative...He's cool! 😎
Haha I never imagined she would listen to the sisters!
Always happy to see a Sisters of Mercy reaction.
Whoooo... i've been waiting for this song to arrive on the reaction circuit for a long time. The Sisters are legendary (Dominion, Lucretia, Temple of Love, More....). The song was written after the orginal line-up broke up when the band became successful. The leaving members wanted control over the name (here referred to as "The Ring" - like the struggle between the hobbits in Lord of the Rings) and a legendary fight for the name-rights broke loose. The singer, Eldritch, eventually prevailed but the damage was deep and done. So these are his feelings on the break-up (or corrosion) of the original line-up of The Sisters Of Mercy. P.S. The leaving members formed then the equally successful band "The Mission".
there is a good video on Trash Theory, on here, about Sisters that i would recommend.
Gimme a sec to pick my jaw off the floor. I am SO glad that KSO reacted to this incredible song by one of the legendary Goth bands. If you were to do more Sisters Of Mercy, I recommend Temple of Love, More, Vision Thing, and Doctor Jeep. If you do other Goth or Goth adjacent bands (besides Sisters of Mercy and The Cure) there is Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Peter Murphy, Type O Negative, Killing Joke, The Cult, She Wants Revenge, and H.I.M. just to name a few. Thanks for this! ~Be Blessed
We need KSO to listen to the Nephilim, next... 😉
@@tombaxter6228 lol ikr
@@tombaxter6228 I would love that, but we will certainly never see the day.
She already reacted to Type O Negative if I remember it correctly, plus she reacted to Dead Can Dance and Joy Division (I want more of those artists please), I would love to see more reactions to those artists that you named above though. And add some more of the classic bands: Alien Sex Fiend, Christian Death, And Also The Trees, Clan of Xymox, New Model Army, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Einstürzende Neubauten... the list is almost endless... so much brilliant acts who shaped a specific part of alternative music and influenced generations of artists up until today.
@@Reani71 She either hasn't done TON or it got blocked and deleted after the fact as it doesn't show up. Yes, she did DCD and it looks like only 1 JD song. I thought she did LWTUA, but it doesn't show up. There are a lot of Goth or "goth adjacent" artists she can react to, I only listed a small number.
It was great to see you react to this classic goth band. Every goth has heard these songs played to death but they are great. Recommend Temple of Love!!
featuring the amazing Ofra Haza. RIP.
Welcome to the world of Goth!
My Favourite band. 35 years a fan. Got the tattoo (literally)
In this version, The Sisters of Mercy were primarily a studio band, consisting of Andrew Eldritch, Patricia Morrison, and their faithful drum machine Doktor Avalanche.
Don't worry about the meaning of the song, so much. Eldritch's lyrics are notoriously oblique.
If you liked this, the other singles from their 'Floodland' album, 'Lucretia my reflection' and 'Dominion' are equally good.
The album version is like twice as long and unbelievably epic :)
Catchy right?
I'm still hoping for Peter Murphy "Cuts You Up." He's the Godfather of Goth.
I would rather recommend Bauhaus then with "Bela Lugosi's Dead" to show what being the godfather of goth really means since that is the song that started the whole goth movement. I just fear that she wouldn't like that too much since it's far too dark and eerie, so "Cuts You Up" is a good compromise (even though it's not gothy in any way)... and when you say godfather you should also say godmother: so please also react to Siouxsie and the Banshees... maybe "Cities in Dust" would be a great start.
@@Reani71 Yes I was going for something she would like. Siouxsie would be good.
Cut's you up, is, depending on the day of the week, my favorite song from this genre, and anyday of the week a crank up the radio in the car and let her rip
@@Reani71 my favorite Siouxsie song, good call
Gothfather of Goth more like lol
Andrew Eldrich and Peter Murphy are "THE" voices for the Gothic- Scene !!
React to "Lucretia, My Reflection" The Sisters Of Mercy. NICE SONG!
🎤DANCE THE GHOST WITH ME!🎤 😎👻😎
That song is immaculate.
The band name came from a Leonard Cohen song featured in a Robert Altman film in early 70’s.
The ever iconic Andrew Eldridge is the lead singer/founding member and the goddess Patricia Morrison became the bass player in mid- 80’s
ohh yes I love seeing a black woman discovering sisters of mercy lol! I've been a fan since I was in high school :)
Good choise
My wife and I had this played at our wedding reception...
Were half your guests like, wtf? Lol. I didn't have a proper wedding, but held a party at our house months later. I have no idea what people thought of the music (post-punk, new wave, synth pop, cold wave, etc), but I have a feeling most were like 😐 lol. But I didn't care. I bet you guys had such fun dancing to this song!
I got to see them in concert for the "Vision Thing" tour in Chicago, at old movie theater. I was right at the stage leaning against it lol. He had a cigarette in his hand...the same one the entire show! Great show.
I'm surprised you could see him through all the smoke :-)
@@lukedudley5030 lol 😆 it was an amazing concert. Then I tripped balls from 10pm to 2pm in Chicago in the hotel parking garage hahaha.
Only thing better than that was outside the Grateful Dead concert parking lot in Chicago at soldier field...sold my LL bean shirt for 5 of fresh droppered hits amd hangout with 2 older(at the time) couples vw bus and smoked for a while, got lost drove by Cabrini Green a couple times hahaha...
@@hitmixhyepock9405 I really enjoyed them when they were a support band for depeche mode :-) cant remember mode but sisters were awesome :-)
The lyrics for the Sisters of Mercy are incredible. He pretty much writes poetry as lyrics and I've been running a tribute to them for 6 years.. I don't even understand what the lyrics refer to for some of the songs. I highly recommend analyzing Driven Like the Snow. As I take the lyrics, "your problems are your problems, until they are mine also"
This is the song that turned me on to Sisters of Mercy.
This was a staple diet of Goths in Leeds in the 80's at the Phono every saturday afternoon ,Leeds the birthplace of Goth 💖
love Sisters of Mercy - Try Temple of Love - touched by the hand of Ofra Haza
It's an overblown & empty song by Andrew Eldritch attacking Wayne Hussey, a former band member, who's music Eldritch considered empty & overblown.
Eldritch described the track in a 1987 interview with Sounds magazine: "It's about the idiots, full of sound and fury, who stampede around this world signifying nothing. It's about people who sing about the revolution while selling it short, about people who sing about the corrosion of things while they themselves are falling apart. People who miss the point... It's also stupidly over-the-top bombastic, but rightly so."
You're right about the content of the lyrics and I'm team Hussey 100%, yet the song is still catchy and a dancefloor classic.
The song is not empty, it’s about empty people.
"Love is the law" seems like a jab at The Mission's reference to the Thelemic phrase in the song Severina, which appears to have come out the same year.
The band is named of the beautiful song 'Sisters Of Mercy' by Leonard Cohen, after singer Andrew Eldritch and co-founder Gary Marx heard that song in Robert Altman's movie 'McCabe & Mrs. Miller' (from 1971).
Nine While Nine, Floorshow, Ribbons, Driven Like the Snow. Emma, Gimme Shelter among many.
Ribbons is one of my all time favourites :-)
My favorite song by them is Black Planet
The 11 minute long version of this is best, though
Floodland is one of the all time great albums - Lucretia My Reflection & Dominion are killer tracks.
Jim Steinman-produced gospel-goth for Thatcher Youth rebels. Paved the way for Madonna's Like A Prayer.
your enjoyment made me enjoy this song. Loved seeing you get into it
Andrew Eldritch's lyrics were voluntarily obscure, you should go about them the same way you read William Burroughs or a fortune cookie and interpret them the way they affect you. The only thing to do when listening to the Sisters of Mercy is get into the rhythm and let that impressive voice submerge you !
Fun song... 80's goth rock! This was big back then!
All the videos for the singles - This Corrosion, Dominion, Lucretia My Reflection - from the Floodland album are absolutely stark raving bonkers RIDICULOUS. I love them more than life itself.
Saw them when they supported depeche mode on the devotional tour back in 93....great day 👍
ohhhh, so glad you reacted to this one, I knew you would love his voice, so deep....I like their song "More" better than this one, but this one rocks, too. Cannot wait until you start reacting to Peter Murphy from Bauhaus videos....his voice is just soooo....beyond and his lyrics are poetry. "Keep me from Harm", "Marlene Dietrich's favorite love poem" "Deep Ocean, Vast sea", and his best "Cuts you up" all by Peter Murphy...just incredible. I just love those deep voices... Peace and love.
My all time favorite PM song is Crystal Wrists, but I absolutely adore Surrendered with KMFDM.
According to the band, they named themselves after a Leonard Cohen song by the same name.
Infectious beat, isn't it? Welcome to one of the 80s Goth dance anthems. The full song is over 10 minutes. :-)
Andrew Eldritch and Patricia Morrison. Eldritch has been the singer since 1980. Morrison was only on this album which was their second full length release. This was the album that made them more famous, famous for a band like The Sisters of Mercy at least. For over 30 years now, they are still one of my favorite bands of all time.
This was the club banger on gohtic night at clubs in San Francisco in the 80's...if u didn't hit the dancefloor on this cut you weren't dancing at all that night lol
It was one of THE bangers 20 years later in goth clubs everywhere from Berlin to Vancouver ;)
Sisters rule
The video started, and I was nineteen again! Thank you so MUCH! I love your reactions, I loved seeing you dance and sing along.
Great band - not to everyone's taste, it's a blend between hard rock and goth. But they've made some ultimate classics of the genre.
Try "Temple of Love", it's actually very catchy.
Never a goth but have always loved his music!!
A true goth classic one of my favorite😍
Love to hear your thoughts on "I don't Exist When You Don't See Me" by them.
Another one !!! :)

Bring back memories of electric ballroom .Camden London
I'm so happy to see your reaction to the amazing sisters of mercy im a huge fan of them and I've started to play bass to the songs
Context has been lost over time. As a GenX teenager during the time this song was popular, it's about how close we felt nuclear apocalypse was real prior to the breakup of the Soviet Union. This video is what the future would look like
There big sounds they did sound tracks video games great music
Nice video! I suggest hearing Nine While Nine-The sisters of mercy. its sooo beautiful.
Love this song...and band
Have the earphones OVER the ears actually helps... it's kinda the point.
It's the witching hour at the local Goth club. Do you know where your children are??? I LOVE IT!
The Sisters of Mercy were an order of Nuns.
brill
Yes.
Now do the full version lol. I prefer it to the video edit. Epic song though!
This song is a diss track against Andrew Eldritch's (the lead singer) old band mates. It's about how everything they tried to do after leaving him sucked. The "gimme the ring" line is basically, "I've won, you've lost" -- the ring = the prize. I love the song. It's super epic, fun, and catchy. It's also incredibly petty, though.
Another great song from the 80's (i must sound like a broken record by now, no wiseguys asking what a record is lol)
The band's name is the title of a Leonard Cohen song. How much more appropriate can you get from one of the originators of Goth music. In fact, The Sisters and Bauhaus were two of the main trendsetters of that particular movement. However the main driver was what their audiences did with the "Goth" concept which had, up until then, been mainly associated with literature and architecture.
The song is about hey now hey now now.
(I hope this helped.)
The Gods of Goth Rock ...
The Sisters of Mercy took the band name from the Leonard Cohen song "Sisters of Mercy" which is interesting because I can't hear any influence
Please do 'under the gun'!
You may not like many of their songs but Under rhe Gun is with Teri Nunn from Berlin. Amazing vocal. Great tension on the song..
One of my favorite songs of all time ! Album floodland is amazing ! Actually have the music video on an old VHS tape 🤭 and I was never even in the goth scene. Go figure lol
Sisters of mercy is a Leonard Cohen song
I always thought it meant the' Brass Ring': Success!
Andrew Eldritch was mocking Wayne Hussey's writing skills and penned purposefully nonsensical lyrics to the song. 'The Ring' refers to the previous incarnation of the band, which included Hussey. I still love this song and the album more than anything.
This was an extended middle finger towards Wayne Hussey who left the band and started the Mission,
The Sisters of Mercy are a great band just don’t mention the “G” word Andrew Eldritch hates it lol🖤🦇😎☠️🎸💀
ohh old school Goth rock
Do "More" next
I was educated for 9 years by the Sisters Of Mercy, so I'm triggered! LOL. There was precious little mercy to be had.
He sounds like David Bowie, no?
They're named after a Leonard Cohen song. Nothing especially to do with the religious order..
@@tombaxter6228 I know, just reminded me of school dayz. Nun of this, nun of that.
Front 242, Headhunter and Tragedy for You.
Great band, highly recommend 'Lucretia My Reflection' and ' Temple of Love' with the incredible Ofra Haza! Also highly recommend The Mission 'Tower of Strength' :)
Tower...?
@@AKB67UK shit - had a dyslexic moment there. Thanks 🤭
@@Problembeing Sorry, didn’t mean to be a smart arse... just wondered if there was a Mission / Sisters crossover I wasn’t aware of!
i invite you to check out this band's illegitimate grandchild, the Cruxshadows. the songs Tears, Marylin My Bitterness, and Deception. i think you'll dig it.
FUN FACT- this song was a massive F-U from Eldritch to his former band mates who had bailed out due to Eldritch's attitude/ego and formed a VERY similar sounding band. the lyrics were intentionally "cut up" and pointless because they had once criticized Eldritch's depth as a songwriter (i'll show those so-an-whats "pointless and insipid lyrics" hold my beer...).
you should check the story out for yourself, i can't do the weirdness of it justice.
Nice vid.
He reminded me of Michael Jackson without the moves.
They make me think of a Cali-band
But they're English (British) ??? I think
From Leeds, England but the main guy Andrew Eldritch relocated to Hamburg, Germany.
I was literally there when this came out (aged 15), and the gap between your school peers who listened to this stuff and dressed accordingly (proto-goths) and everyone else (e.g.: me - very much a non-goth) seemed like a vast, unbridgeable cultural chasm. They were quite odd.
Now, I honestly can't tell the difference between the Sisters of Mercy and the Pet Shop Boys.
What does it all mean!
Hi hunny, would you do me a favor and play Gretchen Wilson and Merle Haggard ..." politically uncorrect" 2005. Great song!
Reaction request - Mama Was an Opium Smoker by Rasputina
gimme the ring= GIVE ME THE POWER!
the ring that tied to everybody to the darkness~ the Lord of the Rings
ring is evil
Ring is the Power of Darkness
Alice is another one of theirs.
My personal fav. Along with 'Marian' 'Heartland', 'Valentine', 'Kiss The Carpet' and 'Temple Of Love' (1983). Those songs cut me like a knife. 'This Corrosion' never did much for me, to be honest. Too hollow, too shallow. But, of course, preferences are a personal thing.
"The Sisters Of Mercy" refers to Leonard Cohen's song of the same title. The singer is Andrew Eldritch (the only remaining founding band member), and the "girl" is Patricia Morrison (former bass player with "The Gun Club"), who only stayed for this album ("Floodland"), because Eldritch is said to be not the easiest character... Since their foundations during the early 80s, the band published 3 albums and a couple of EPs, but the last "real" CD ("Vision Thing") came out in 1990. There is apparently some new material, but it's only played live.
The sisters of mercy go way back before Leonard Cohen , you should get on your Google because it's a lot more interesting!
@@MrChristbait I suppose you don't get my point. Yes, sure, the "real" Sisters Of Mercy are way older than Cohen's song. But at least the band's name refers to it.
@@olearntz obviously didn't get the point you didn't make clear enough for us simple folk! I was just sayin'🏴
@@MrChristbait yes, I love you, too. 😘
How can you prove that it is really her first listening to corrosion? Of course she could lie
React to Amphetamine Logic By sister of mercy
It’s so funny that this song literally has no meaning whatsoever 😂
The song is mocking empty people in an increasingly empty world... People who put style before substance full of sound and fury signifying nothing. The echo this, both the song and video are totally overblown. Also, the lyrics borrow from the Shelley poem Ozymandias, the tale of a fallen empire whose remnants are buried beneath the sand.
