Rumor has is it, when a Goth dies, their voice gets added to the choir of this song.
🦇
Facts my friend!
The Chorus of Vengeance!
Brilliant.
🤘👾
Sisters of Mercy now? Awesome. Temple of Love is another incredible song of theirs too.
Literally every SoM Song is a 10/10
3 bands I always come back to: Sisters of Mercy, The Cure and Siouxsie & the Banshees - absolute classic goth! Good pick!
The Mission also
I mean where do you stop? Dead can dance?
Clan of Xymox
@@CBGB_1977 Bauhaus?
Bauhaus a good Northampton band, and I remember the Missions manager being from Northampton too.
The Sisters RULE. "Lucretia, My Reflection" next please. Ignoring Goth is like trying to ignore your shadow. It's always there.
Ignore the Machine.
Oh god yes! "Lucretia, My Reflection" for sure! "Black Planet" too! And "1959" And "Driven, Like The Snow"!!! And "Marian"!
Nice choice, I second that!
@@Thom1212 Dominion/Mother Russia too.
OMFG YOU DID SISTERS! HOLY CRAP! Welcome to some legit goth music. This is the best day of youtube I've ever had now! (Now just need Siouxsie and the Banshee's song Cities in Dust. A good intro to Queen of Goth)
Oh your city lies in dust, my friend!
Ha ha, couldn't agree more! Good stuff
@@shanebrown4146 Yea he says he isn't goth. But the Sisters is still a classic band in the goth subculture. So even if he doesn't classify himself as goth; I still consider the Sisters a goth band. My favorite goth band.
1000% Agree
Israel Live version ....
Ah, welcome down the rabbit hole known as Gothic rock. My recommendations:
Bauhaus: She's in Parties
45 Grave: Partytime
Clan of Xymox: A Day
The Cure: 100 Years
Dead Can Dance: In Power We Entrust the Love Advocated
Fields of the Nephilim: Preacher Man
The Wake: Christine
Christian Death: Romeo's Distress
Virgin Prunes: Pagan Love Song
Joy Division: Atrocity Exhibition
New Order: In a Lonely Place
Skeletal Family: She Cries Alone
Alien Sex Fiend: Ignore the Machine
This should be a good introduction, giving the varieties of styles that make up the genre, from dead serious (Joy Division) to theatrical (Bauhaus) to tongue-in-cheek or downright funny (Alien Sex Fiend).
Gitane Demone ‘Incendiary Lover’
The Chameleons: Swamp Thing, and Tears
I mean, if youre only going to have one Bauhaus song, it kind of has to be Bela, doesn't it?
@@vov.7397 No. Great song, to be sure, but way overrated.
Mission UK - Wasteland
This made my day. I think you’re the first reactors to do Sisters of Mercy. Sisters of Mercy are one of my favourite bands and I was a Goth back in the 80’s. Some of their other songs worth listening too are Temple of Love, Alice, Marian, No time to Cry and Dominion
The song was meant as a slap at The Mission - "Its about the idiots, full of sound and furry, who stampede around this world signifying nothing. Its about people who sing about the revolution while selling it short, about people who sing about the corrosion of things while they themselves are falling apart. People who miss the point....Its also stupidly over the top bombastic, but rightly so"
Andrew Eldritch, Sounds (Sep 1987)
But really Eldritch had a more direct target in mind. After it took Hussey & Adams two months to work out that "Jihad" was aimed at them, Eldritch felt he needed to produce a more obvious "fuck you" with the group's signature satirical edge clearly slashing at those who has betrayed him. Lines Like: Sing this Corrosion to Me implying that The Mission sound is a corrupted copy of The Sisters of Mercy. For more info look up "The Smirking Revenge of The Sisters of Mercy & THIS CORROSION | New British Canon"
Indeed, it's a bit of an ironic take, but still so good. Watch this for the breakdown: ruclips.net/video/vb3alPShWQU/видео.html
SISTERRRRSSSSS!!!!!! Glad to see someone react to them. They take me way back.
If you liked this song you should hear the full version of it just for your own enjoyment. The video you watched jumps into the song about a minute or so after its actual beginning and ends (suddenly, as you saw) with about 3 minutes left. The full version is over 9 minutes long. A unique song and IMO one of the best of the decade.
Yeah, hurts how the song was chopped into pieces 😒
@@_Shadoh_ I had to listen to the WHOLE song again after watching the video because this version didn't sit well in my head.
Which bands before SOM were releasing the longer full length version of songs on eps, etc. Simple Minds had a lot of incredible remixes, usually on imports. The Cult had some great different and longer takes on album stuff. Had to be others, but SOM was definitely one of the first to perfect it. IMO.
I thought that had to be an extended mix... Or maybe "the band" really did lose track of time on it. "Turn, cold, burn, like a healing hand" is the best line and they didn't even get to it!
I love her excitement!
Reminds me of my first time hearing sisters.
One thing I’ve always loved about Sisters Of Mercy is you can pull any song from their library and it fits perfectly into a movie soundtrack. Opening credits , end scene, either way their sound is always epic and their story telling is perfectly visual.
This is from one of last years' '80s alternative stream. Around Spring of 2022. We need another one .
Lucretia My Reflection is their best song imo. Awesome that they made it on the channel.
I'm slight, _slightly_ more partial to that version of Temple of Love from the '92 single. Lucretia My Reflection is such a close second, though.
Vision Thing is their best song imho, but yur right Lucretia's great too
My friend Troy would have to agree. He named his border collie Lucretia and calls Lucy for short. IMO, Dominion/Mother Russia is their best. That whole album, back to front, is a masterpiece 😎🎧🎼
i vote for andrenochrome, lucretia, and temple of love
Heartland is their best song
Thats why i love you guys. You play songs i forgot existed but my younger self loved.
Cocteau Twins - “Cherry-Coloured Funk”
This song IS a fantastic dream.
I have danced in the goth clubs to this song more times than I can remember. A staple in goth clubs.
If you want to explore goth, you need to try some Bauhaus (Bela Lugosi's Dead) or Peter Murphy (Cuts You Up, Deep)
Peter Murphy's voice is way deeper, lol.
Cuts You Up is an AMAZING song...peter murphy was great back in the day
While "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is nice and all that, there are far better tracks for one's Bauhuas initiation, for example:
She's in Parties
The Passion of Lovers
All We Ever Wanted Was Everything
The Man With the X-Ray Eyes
Stigmata Martyr
Hair of the Dog
Spirit
King Volcano
Hope
Post-punk, dance-punk, gothic rock, darkwave (dark new wave), new wave, alt rock!. Classic '80s, early '90s band .
Fourteen years old and the Sisters at the old Wembley arena was my first time at a live concert, guess which way my world view went,🦇
At 18 years old, I took the Black Planet cassette to basic training and listened to it every night at lights out. 10 years later, "Temple of Love" was my wedding song. That said, "Alice" is my favorite song from these guys. Don't skip out on their amazing catalog.
"Marian" is next! Post-punk/gothic classic from Sisters of Mercy.
There are very few perfect songs, and this is one of them. The level of pettiness that inspired this track is LEGENDARY
Hi, im doing a presentation on the 4 biggest goths for school, i cant find what inspired it, can you explain it please?
@@MrQuabs The Sisters of Mercy were a popular English goth band who did very well in the UK between 1984 and 1993. In 1985, tensions in the band led to their split, with bass player Craig Adams and guitarist Wayne Hussey leaving to form The Mission. The Sisters Of Mercy leader Andrew Eldritch re-formed the band in 1987, without Adams and Hussey. This song takes a stab at the departed pair, with lines like "Sing this corrosion to me" and "Selling the don't belong," indicating that Eldritch considered The Mission's sound to be a copy - or corrosive version - of The Sisters Of Mercy.
I remember when I first heard this as a teenage boy in a shopping mall back in the 80ies in Switzerland (MMM Buchs AG). Maaaan, that song sent shivers down my spine. Beautifully Epic
At a shopping mall???? Damn
For DJs this is the 'I need to go to the bathroom or smoke or both' song lol Sooo long lol But classic ❤
Alice is my favorite song of them, also The Temple of Love is superb.
They are goth wave industrial rock if it needs a label. Seen them live, was a lot of smoke.
Alice is a killer song!!!
was a lot of smoke. - Understatement I suppose...
@@nomisnestral6956 "was a lot of smoke" - and that was only from the singer's cigarettes!
Alice! YES
I’m quite partial to Lucretia My Reflection as well.
Agreed. Alice!
Lucretia is their best tune by a long way
One of the best band's ever!!!!
Loved loved The Sisters of Mercy throughout the 1980’s. I can’t believe it, but I think they hold up. His voice is phenomenal.
"Lucretia my reflection" would be my favourite song from them, would love a reaction to it!
Ribbons always gives me chills
Other bands from the eighties you may like are Killing Joke and The Cult
I think they did a reaction to The Cult
@@savsmiles3042 They've done like 4.
They've done The Cult but not their earlier stuff which was more post-punk goth rock.
@@jeffreekoch9298 If you're referring to the really early stuff, when they were still called Death Cult, you're right, but they did do She Sells Sanctuary from '85.
@@brettkenschaft4239 Oh true! You're right. They done that song. You are right. Also they should do their 1st album "Dreamtime" under The Cult. Maybe do some Southern Death Cult, too.
This is GOTH, cousin to industrial and new wave. No "Hot Topic" when this came out, that was when it was more commercialized. The main thing to think is DRAMATIC - dramatic music, dramatic teenagers wearing all black. I don't know the current "goth scene" but this is the early instance of it.
I LOVE that you are doing Sisters of Mercy!!! One of my all time favorites- this was a club fave back in the day.
Lex was on point with the Type-O Negative vibe.
Makes me want to go out and get a pair of silver metallic aviators. And if you like this you should really check out Bauhaus and Peter Murphy.
"This is like nothing I've never heard before!" "I know!"
Finally!!! Now all we need is for B&L to do the full length version of A Forest by The Cure and we will be golden.
Andrew Eldritch on vocals, Patricia Morrison on bass/backing vocals and the Drum machine Dr. Avalanche. Great song
Actually Morrison didn’t play or sing on the track and this was one of the reasons she fell out with Andrew Eldritch
@@thelwulfeoforlic6482 Any idea who did the bass line? Was it Andrew?
Andrew Eldritch (singer & songwriter) played all the instruments on this, except the lead guitar which was played by session guitarist Eddie Martinez, and of course the 40-piece New York choir.
Sisters on the Brad & Lex show? HELL YEAH! My compliments to Mr Mason for fine exquisite musical tastes
Yeah I was a goth back then lol had no real idea what I was doing I’m 50 today but this brings me back I was like 13 when this came out that’s why I had no idea what the heck I was doing but I knew I liked it being a bit goth , Sisters of Mercy , the Cure , the damned and bauhaus were some of the first goth bands I got into , later Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Mission (UK) … after that I got into blues , sixties psychedelic rock , metal and Grunge but always kept the Goth vibe with a hippie twist !
Type o negative is goth.
Sisters are one of the originals.
Love that you guys are into it🦇
The Sisters of Mercy were relatively late to the game, at least in terms of producing record albums. Hell, Bauhaus had disbanded two years before the Sisters released their debut album. Granted, the Sisters formed in 1980, but still. . . .
Type O Negative are probably just as much metal as they are Goth. Definitely a gateway band to Goth in the 90s.
Goth-metal
LOVE ME SOME SISTERS!!!!!! finally some Goth music here lol
check out "Temple of Love" next, these guys were pretty hot back in the 90s
edit
you're hearing a cut down version of the song, the album version from "floodland" is nearly 11 minutes long
other sisters suggestions
Vision Thing
Lucretia my Reflection
More
No Time to Cry
First and Last and Always
Ribbons
When you don't see me
and of course "Valentine" gotta do Valentine
@Elise S Move onto The Mission after...Wasteland (talking of Marian eh Elise?) or Blood Brother - two of their best & most accessible for non-goths.
LUCRETIA!!!!
Ah! Fond memories of Hollywood goth club "Helter Skelter" at the cusp of the 90s!
One night there, people were looking at me with shock & fear in their eyes. I eventually asked my girlfriend what was going on. Her response? "Your contact lenses are glowing green in the black lights -- you look absolutely evil." I fit the club's dress code even more than planned. LMAO!
Lucretia My Reflection, Vision Thing, Temple of Love, More, Dominion, Under the Gun, and many others are absolutely brilliant songs, but I have a dark heart so Ribbons is my favorite 🖤
Hahah saw this band live. I'm actually impressed someone recommend this to you guys. Slightly obscure sub-genre.
Like if Type O was singing in a musical? LIKE if Type O was singing in a musiCAL! LIKE TYPE O WAS SINGING IN A MUSICAL????!!!!???? I wanna be outraged, laugh my azz off and give this sister a fist bump all at the same time. That is one of the best musical comments EVER. And this is coming from a HUGE Type O fan. There is no way Peter was not doubled over laughing when one of the saints said "Hey, Pete. You gotta check out what one of your new fans just said about you on youtube." Then five minutes later when Peter regained his composure, he instructed one of the angels to drop some Black No. 1 at her front door for no apparent reason...along with gunmetal silver lipstick, shredded jeans, a black shawl and platform buckle boots, of course. Love it. Absolutely love it. I just hit the subscribe button.
this takes me back i was 15 when it came out
YES! This whole album ROCKS danced till i nearly dropped! Dominion by Sisters of Mercy, Flood 2 by Sisters of Mercy, and Temple of Love by Sisters of Mercy, and I'm nineteen again, dancing in patent leather boots!
Yes! Got some goth rock going! I hope yo do more of this genre
In the 80s, goths had BIG back-combed hair, leather or/and pvc clothes, fishnet tops and silk/satin shirts, I think they had a bit of wannabe vampire vibes, but tbh, they looked a bit more classy than today's goths with their braided in luminous hair, foot high bootsoles and freaky contact lenses.
Sooo many happy memories :)
Same here
I LOVED to dance to this song, still do when I have to to boring chores! The dramatics are simply off the chart! Great choice!
Could you please do some killing joke for me one of the most underrated and influential bands of all time , still going strong after 40 years and always have been ahead of the times with the lyrics almost prophetic with the times we live in right now
I think I speak for everyone here when I say we need you to do “More”!
I did not know the term "Goth" until 1990ish when I got called that. In 1985 I got called "Your so Batcave" and went with calling myself that. I was 15 when I started going to goth clubs. Big hair, makeup and fancy Winklepicker boots.
Man, this song brings back so many happy memories.
So many memories dude , so many people I'd love to see again
The goth scene you know today got started in the 90's. When I got into goth in the 80's it still had some punk influence, it also wasn't called goth, some called it death rock. My friends called it grim music
I only barely remember this song, the chores. Having listened to it again just now sounds like a David Bowie wanna be doing a song that was originally written for the Pointer Sisters. However, the movie Atomic Blonde some how captured the vibe of this song, therefore I dig it.
I had a Sisters of Mercy shirt because they were cool and had a bitchin logo! Shriekback next???
Shriekback? "This Big Hush"? Amazing song.
Great to see you both digging deeper into the 80's 'alternative' scene.
I was dancing wicked in a 24 hour club when this came out
before becoming a metalhead, I was into this goth rock thing..still awesome...check out The Chameleons...awesome band
This brings back so many memories of being in the club at 1am surrounded by UV goth boys meandering through a cloud of smoke lol
Sisters, Always Unsurpassed...🖤💜🖤😎
At this time, nobody was talking about Goth but Cold Wave, like the dark side of New Wave ! The deep voice of Andrew Eldritch is so pure. You could also make 1959
Dark wave cold wave.
Ah the Sisters of Mercy ... my youth still listen to them ... awesome
So glad you did this song but bummed this video chopped off that last 20% which is my favorite part of the song. If you want to check out this scene live, you really need to go to The Castle on Ybor on a Saturday night. It used to be one of my favorite places to go in Tampa. They actually play This Corrosion in the downstairs outside dance area pretty regularly. That area is where they play old school goth. The upstairs main room is more current stuff. I miss that place alot.
It's a shame it wasn't the album version with the beginning chorus.
Can check out "Temple of Love" and "Dominion" also..
Dominion is one of my alltime favorite tracks
I was scared for a bit when it didn't start with the chill music and Lex saying "Welcome to our channel" I've gotten so used it . . .
Sisters of Mercy? Many great songs and videos from them. Nice, welcome to the underground Lex and Brad ! :-) Gothic rock, darkwave (dark new wave), dance-punk/post-punk music. This type of music had dark vibes and ethereal sounding guitars, vocals and synthesizers. This genre usually sang like Jim Morrison from The Doors, deep and creepy, you guys are right. Alternative rock of the '80s! Music you only hear on college/alternative radio stations back then and videos on 120 Minutes (MTV) show that showed alt music videos in the '80s and '90s. Played at many goth and underground clubs dance music for vampires, goths, alternatives, new wavers, freaks and punks? jaja Yes Type O Negative, Marilyn Manson, NIN, and others influenced by these bands. Danced to this at clubs back in the 90s and many sexy ladies dressed in gothic/punk wear and colored hair. I can smell the clove cigarettes in the air. I ended up marrying one jaja and had kids. Oh no! The song was cut too short oh well. Thanks for playing it though! Lex and Brad liked it.
Bands to check out in this genre: Clan Of Xymox, Sioxsee and the Banshees, The Cure, The Cult (early albums), Echo and the Bunnymen, The Charmeleons, Killing Joke, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Fields of Nephilim, Love and Rockets, Christian Death, And Also the Trees, Frozen Autumn ('90s/'00s) , The Cramps, Bauhuas, Faith and the Muse ('90s/'00s) Soft Cell, Peter Murphy, and a lot more.
Yes. To all of this. ^
No underground here.

Love my Dark 80`s !
Great point about the low pitches... I used to listen to them on cassette, in my car, in the winter... So it was nothing but mid-range. But for some reason this band still works even if all you're hearing are the mids. And some of their early stuff is mostly middle of the EQ.
This is a good intro song into Sisters for sure. Lucretia My Reflection and Temple of Love are great follow ups. It's cool you heard Type O Negative in it as I'm pretty confident Sisters would have been a big influence on them.
Epic goth dance rock. Whenever I had to pee at the college radio station, I'd throw the long version on and run out of the studio.
Still loving SOM. Every time worth listening.
Finally, someone reacting to Sisters of Mercy. Thank you for this.
This is where I was hoping you guys would go! You guys listen to the playlist of my life, it's fun to join along in on the ride! Might I suggest the band Joy Division, They walk in line, Isolation or Ceremony.
OR the band New Order and the song Leave Me Alone!
Radiohead do a really awesome cover of Ceremony actually in one of their basement sessions
If I could time travel, I would take Lex to the Limelight in the early 90's
I saw Sisters of Mercy and had to watch, Alice is a must.
Great songs and great music great live band saw live
This was the first song that I really loved when I was young. Must have played it a thousend times. TOO bad the last part was left out.
Album version of song is about 10 minutes it was on a cd jukebox at a lock pub great value for money
Yeah you need to listen to this whole album it's pretty awesome, got to see them back in 2000.
Flood II will forever and always be my favorite Sisters song
Goth. One of the New Wave outgrowths of UK Punk. Siouxsie and the Banshees were a punk band that inspired the Goth movement.
Excellent pick.. love this band! Hats off to you guys for finding them. Now we want more .. literally the song 'More'. Just to prove that Goth is more Soul, Blues and Rock than its ever given credit for.
Sisters of Mercy are gothic rock band, associated with
The Sisterhood,the Mission,SSV,Ghost Dance,the March Violets…
Andrew Eldritch, the leader of the band spent some time in Germany(Berlin) in a same time as Bowie and Leonard Cohen, as jurnalist…He studied French and German literature at the University of Oxford before moving to Leeds around 1978 to study Mandarin Chinese at the University of Leeds: he left both courses before graduating. He speaks fluent French and German and has some knowledge of Dutch, Italian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, and Latin!
Goth back in the 80s, we did things more like thrift, it was more the vibe and the feeling that the music gave you, being a music subculture, more so than “what” you wore.
More!
I want more!
Temple of love❤️
Glad to see The Sisters on the channel! Their songs More and Vision Thing would also be good, a little more pop-focused. Love y’all’s channel!
Would love to see them do More.
Sounds like the love child of The Cure and Talking Heads with a sprinkle of Marilyn Manson.Cool.
Weirdly, this one song from them is produced by Jim Steinman who also did Meatloaf’s Bat out of Hell album and Total Eclipse of the Heart. You can hear it now, right? So weird.
Lex is an undercover Goth.
TBF, this song is a stone-cold banger. Also, just watch Rocky Horror again and react to it. One of the best things ever made.
The song “more” is pretty good too:)
I love how you bob your head you got a beautiful smile
There’s so much goth bands I’d recommend like Sextile, Lebanon Hanover, She Past Away. Those are just three out of the many bands I know and love
I used to dance to this on weekends in Nuremberg, Germany at this well known pit called "The Green Goose"!!
I'll wager I spent a couple hundred bucks a weekend for @ 10 years...lol Oh, to be young again! I could still do 120 situps in 2 minutes and run the 2 mile in under 11 minutes on my P.T. test.
Anyway...I searched "first time reaction to Sisters of Mercy", not being picky, I didn't select a song due to there probably being very few takers but to my surprise, Brad and Lez, y'all had a thumbnail so here I am!
Actually I'm a subscriber. I check you two out often.
Listen or react to "Lucretia My Reflection" that's a great tune to dance because it's got great bass lines!
Wow, I come home from work and you have a Sisters of Mercy reaction! And quite a song to begin with. They utilized members of the New York Choral Society for those background vocals. Definitely check out Lucretia My Reflection from the same album. And an early Depeche Mode song today! Thanks!
This song was used in "worlds end".. funny movie..
Seen the sisters about 30 times live over the past 20 years
