How I wish I had a coach/ accompanist like you when I was performing. Young singers, old ones, and teacher are so lucky to have you, our own, Pocket Pianist.
You play this so beautifully! More than anybody else I’ve heard. Your rubati! The tenderness and passion you bring to ‘recondita armonia’ and the love duet, as soon as Tosca even enters.. brava! You had me crying.
Thank you so much for the video! I think you are so adorable! Your personality is so magnetic and delightful...Thank you for sharing your positive inviting energy.... I love how you play! Your intensity and interpretation speaks to my emotions... I am so glad I found your channel... Thank you again and again for making this video.... I am Thomas and I live in Pasadena... All my best to you...!
Bravissima maestrina Irina.
Very nice choice, Tosca is really excellent. Thanks!! I love to listen to it played on the piano, it helps get us much better the composer genius of Puccini, he was very modern, in his time (and piano was such and important instrument at that time, particularly with the French like Debussy, Saint Saens etc). So you interpreting Tosca on the piano really helps me locate the composition in its time, late 1800s / early 1900s (something we do not get so easily with the symphonic orchestra). Puccini's score is full of modern rhythm and chords. I love it.
Spot on. There's bits of this opera that almost sound like jazz, for lack of a better description. The dotted eighths in Act II (Ed or fra noi parliam da buoni amici) really swing. If you listen to MacNeil's version in '62 he almost croons it haha
Very well played! Thank you for this excellent resource. I am using it to study :) 32:58 is the bookmark for Scarpia's entrance: "Un tal baccano in chiesa" for those who are studying this role.
Love the circular well leitmotif; @30:44; a subsidiary of Scarpia's leitmotif. It contains five chords, all Major triads who's roots descend in whole tones from C to E in the bass; and like the Scarpia motif the other voices ascend in opposite motion in the treble. The 2nd, third and 5th of those triads are B flat, A flat and E. Spoletta's motive in Act 2 is the same but over two travels within two octaves instead of one. I finally discovered the official names of these leitmotifs by watching a deep analysis of Tosca I discovered just last week. Before then: I used to call them the "Secrets" leitmotifs; the 1st being the secret of Angelotti's hiding place and th 2nd being the secret of the "mock" execution. Thanks for playing the piano reduction of Tosca. Bravissima!
Excellent! Very very useful for music analysis too. I thank you for sharing your competence and you love for music! Marcello La Matina, University of Macerata (Italy)
This was a wonderful surprise to see this morning, but I was still asleep during the live so I could not watch it live since it was 5 am in the US. I always enjoy these full act streams that you do. Hope you are well. Again thanks. Any chance some day to do a Turandot? :)
Hello from Athens Greece! ❤ Thank you for your work! ❤❤ Can you also do I LOMBARDI ALLA PRIMA CROCIATA? It's a marvelous Verdi's work!! This accompaniment doesn't exist on RUclips. The soprano aria "O madre dal cielo...Se vano il pregare.." & the cabaletta "No, non giusto cosa.. " Thank you very much!!🎉🎉🎉🎉😊❤
Wonderful!!! Have you considered producing these works for educational purposes? I’m sure that some of us would purchased these recordings just for the sheer joy of listening to your excellent execution.
I love it.. I could see this comming after you did the "love duet" :) .. Tosca is my favourite and its so great you are doing this for us. The Te teum could be a bit more "getragen"? So looking forward to act 2 :) Really a cool thing to do!
