There's an algorithm to write such stories:
1 - ...day starts normally.
2 - ...get a random game with some "feature" that wasn't there before.
3 - ...start the game and notice some strange stuff.
4 - ...say some random messed up shit that happened when you start playing and maybe the reason for that shit to happen.
Ill never understand these "Hacked/corrupted/whatever game" stories. How do the writers, as clearly inept as they are, think this is scary. The reason haunted book/mirror/potato/whatever stories are scary is because you can't just turn it off... of course people have tried this with game stories to.. and it seems to involve sonic plushes emerging from the TV.. oi..
It's scary because as we all know, hyper realistic blood is the stuff of nightmares

About a few days ago I was saddened becuase I like Super Mario Land. So then I bought it from my friend Jack. He smiled when he gave it to me but it was not a good smile.
It was a bad smile.
So I went home and put it into my GBS (Game Boy Advance) and once it was in the GBA I played it. But apon playing it, the screen went black.
The game wasn't working.
I don't know why how it didn't work and it wouldn't turn on. So then I, turned it off but the next week, it turned itself on. I walked over to it and when it turned itself on and began playing it. But Mario was weird. Like super weird. His face was not there.
It was red.
I turned it off immediately out of fear. I had a cup of tea and resumed playing. Mario hadn't moved since I put it down. Then blood began poring from the screen of my gameboy. I tried to touch it and I realized that the blood wasn't real but it looked SO REAL!
I began crying. This game was too hyper-realistic to be true. ~Mario then grinned and the game turned off and, I feel aslepe. The next morning in the dream I was floationg when the same blood appeared around my eyes and I saw...
No, it couldn't possibly be...

It's a common thing with gaming creepypastas, the Sonic and Mario ones are the worst and I find it hard to believe that the people who want to write a serious creepypasta still believe that gore and "hyper realistic" blood is scary and makes for a good atmosphere, so I actually think that they're written by trolls who emphasize on this poor writing style.
Because honestly, if it's not written this poorly on purpose, then it's just pathetic.

OK, ignoring the horrible, horrible spelling and grammar, let's count the clichés. Game bought at GameStop and kept apart from the other games because there was something 'odd' about it: check. Black marker on the disc: check. Overabundance of references to death: check. Dark sky, red clouds, red water a la Sonic.exe: check. Dead NPCs: check. A originally 'good' character killing another: check. Hyper-realistic blood: freaking check.

Glitched music: check. Narrator too stupid to stop playing the game or save any evidence of anomalies: check. Game refusing to start again: check. Game breaking the fourth wall: check. Character possibly out of the screen: check. Console not turning off: check. Narrator not keeping the game for evidence: check check fricking check.
