Prime video is raising prices again... but only if you don't want to watch ads. Following the shoes of netflix, it seems more streaming services are going towards an ad supported model. This means you need to pay an additional price to remove these annoying ads.

Cancelled: Don't add crap onto an existing account and demand more money to fix it, what a crock. Had they offered a lower price for the ad services, it might have made sense, but this infuriated me almost as much as navigating their crap freemium and PPV garbage just to see the regular Prime channels. Oh, and their delivery times sucks and their regular product prices have not been that great for awhile. I've also found it very shady that my previous orders seem to have an inflationary price of their own.
    Bye bye Prime.

For me, ads are the most annoying thing in the world. Having to put up with these horrible life-wasting clips as part of a paid subscription is disgusting.
I chose Amazon Prime over all other services due to their subscription having no ads.
Now they have more or less levelled the playing field with every other provider, they are no longer a cut above the rest.

@@mat77111 which leads to the whole group becoming completely week and ineffective because they're all pushing the same unusable BS, so, self-nerfing. The whole reason these companies exist is to try to provide us with a service that's better than the other one nearby yes it is definitely a race and if you think you know the rules of the game look up Optimus radios because that's another way to lose your company. They, pulled ahead and stayed there thinking that would keep them afloat thinking coming in first was the way to win the race. I believe the term I'm searching for is scrimmage match because nobody wants to be Optimus radio. So before turns were taken one year it was one company one year was another but eventually they just decided that logos sold billions of units shipped all the manufacturing far far away down to a component level and sell us every couple of months another multi thousand dollar gimmick because rather than carefully examine what optimists did and see if it could be salvaged or even have a look at the commerce landscape around them to see if that could be more importantly salvaged because long story short they died to making a really nice radio back when radio was still popular, they decided to all take the same advice and a lot of them got bought up by the same guys. it's not the three dollars, it's the principle. I can go directly to companies as well for orders and cut out the middle man. I am hearing more & more reports of companies ditching the amazon ad space because they receive little to no value anymore in the amazon store. So, overall Prime is diminishing in it's value while starting to charge more. Also, great point at the end of the video. You - the Prime consumer - are financing the content, not the bottom line.

Ad breaks are used to get a drink, a snack, a toilet break etc., and when I'm not getting up I might see if I can complete a Sudoku puzzle before the ads finish. As a result, no matter what I'm watching I can't tell you the name of a single advertiser or product. I simply don't watch them and they earn no money directly from me. Without ads I regularly pause videos (including DVDs etc) so this change doesn't impact me greatly. I might cancel my Prime subscription and go for a Prime Video only sub but that will have nothing to do with ads. It's just that I don't buy as much from Amazon as I used to so the shipping benefits are minimal. Also, I don't use the Music or Kindle benefits.

I joined prime for the shipping and they don't deliver on time anymore. They are pushing China crap more and more, and turning into a second rate ebay. Their ratings on items has become totally fake bs. I may buy a few things from them if I can't get them elsewhere but only if they are my only source.

I don't know what the arrangement is with other channels(History, Starz, Paramount+ etc...) but I imagine those partners won't be very happy if people just start dropping those in droves. I absolutely despise ads and it's even more insulting considering these streaming services came about off the back of cutting the cord and commercial free content.

I am angry about this. I have not canceled. Most of what is shown on Prime Video is unwatchable. I still find a few things worth it. I am currently watching 'Three Body' because I started reading the books. 'Asteroid City' because I really like Wes Anderson films. 'Northern Exposure' because it was a great old show. It's a petty move by Amazon. I order a lot through them. They raise their rates too often and its just not justified. I spend bigger money on things like 'MLB TV - Baltimore Orioles'. The truth is I hate all streaming services. They are all crooks.

Why cancel it? If they make a movie, I get to see it now. Unlike Disney. That should be the one no one pays for. Subscriptions funded the movies, and people have to wait longer to see it. I can live with ads all day if I get to see the movie NOW versus 45 to 120 days when I subscribe. It's just like Netflix does. That's my opinion and mine alone. I will never support Disney after Deadpool 3, I have my limits. After that, I will never buy a single ticket for any movie, show, concert, or event created by that anti-family pedifile company.

I don't think everyone is going to leave in 2024 as your title says. Only because of free shipping we get with Prime. I would have cancelled Prime a long time ago, even before the paywall, but I get a lot of stuff delivered thru Prime so I keep it. I think most people will see it that way too. Their content lags and there is so much pay stuff to weed thru. Just one man's opinion.
