He did say when he was on the "Inside the screen actors studio" episode, that breaking into film roles was tough. He'd go on as many auditions as he could. Taking what ever part came up, even in commercials. You can tell by the commercials and his expressions he has great talent. Glad he didn't give up.
He had more acting chops in these commercials than a lot of people do in their entire career.

Oh is that the annoying chick who never shuts up and speaks at a million miles an hour? I dunno I don't watch the show only vaguely know the characters.
I didn't think I'd say this when I started the video, but I have even more appreciation for him as an actor now. He could create relatable characters in 30 seconds or less. That 7-Up commercial at the end made me laugh out loud (You can see the seeds of his Roseanne character). Amazing talent. Great compilation.
I guess Campbell’s didn’t have much of a commercial budget. Boom mic keeps dropping into view? We’ll keep it.
Or you're forgetting tv had different perimeters 40 years ago so what might show in the larger shot now didn't back then so that's right they didn't have to worry about it.
