    Wrestling Bios Presents - The Story of Steve Blackman in the WWF
    When in came to the Attitude Era, the general rule was to be over-the-top, turn the volume up to 11, and you'd get popular. The formula worked for many superstars, but Steve Blackman went in a totally different route. Not being well versed on the mic meant Steve had to prove himself in the ring, and seeing how Steve managed to remain in the WWE during the entire Attitude Era, we can definitely say that he was good enough in the ring.
    From his debut in the WWF in 1997, his tag team with Ken Shamrock, his heel turn that saw him battle Shamrock in a range of different match types, to his partnership with Al Snow and the "Head Cheese" faction, Steve Blackman may not have been in the main events but he was consistent and fun to watch in the ring. Considered as one of the toughest men in wrestling, Steve Blackman's story gets told in this mini documentary from Wrestling Bios.
    link to interview mentioned in video: prowrestlingst...
    Topics covered include:
    02:10 - Steve Blackman before Wrestling
    03:35 - Steve Blackman's WWF debut in the 80s
    06:56 - Steve Blackman in the WWF during 1997
    08:42 - Stories about how tough Steve Blackman was
    11:06 - The Brawl for All Tournament

      Steve Blackman could legitimately carry that stare, not everyone can back that stare up, I've seen guys with that same stare who got their ass kicked, but Blackman is the real deal

      Thinking someones stare is conducive to how dangerous they really are is your first mistake.

    • @MrJadedGreen
      @MrJadedGreen 3 года назад +12

      @@TheGlobuleReturns It's more the ability to notice the calmness in the stare than the actual gaze. It's hard for some to know the difference. There is a difference.
      James Thompson vs. Alexander Emilianenko is a decent enough example.
      If anyone is starting a fight with someone and you sense that calmness while you know you are forcing yours, best to just walk away. If not, it's gonna hurt.

    • @TheGlobuleReturns
      @TheGlobuleReturns 3 года назад +4

      @@MrJadedGreen I mean that’s just each fighters mindset.. doesn’t necessarily mean anything regarding the outcome of the fight. A lot of guys who have that calmness only have it because they’ve never actually been in a real fight. Not saying that’s what this is, but just an example of a situation where calmness means nothing.

    • @MrJadedGreen
      @MrJadedGreen 3 года назад +7

      @@TheGlobuleReturns Calmness is the absence of fear, nervousness, anger etc. All of which can get someone hurt.Most people who've never been in a fight are nervous at the least. People fear what they don't know or haven't done. Human nature. The calmness comes from either knowing what one is capable of or just a natural ability to not fear. When the body is in check with emotions and the spirit is when a person is at their peak. You are correct though. The stare means nothing. It's what's behind that stare.

      My advice is to allow your body time to rest and only slowly work individual body parts back into shape. If you can, get blood tests done and check your hormone levels as C19 has been shown to drastically reduce testosterone. Also check your B vitamin levels. Clean diet, fresh air, and plenty of sunlight when you can get it in Ireland (from Derry originally so I know the difficulty there).

      He worked over Sunny backstage blowing her back out leaving her panting like a 50yr old cigar smoker.
      Once recovered she piped him off.
      Al Snow gave Sunny hell for leather, hammer and tongue in a wheelbarrow, again he worked her over like a good un.

    I shook Steve Blackman's hand. Dude was super serious when the rest of the wrestlers at the airport were just cool as hell. Paul Bearer, Chris Jericho, Dean Malinko, and Undertaker were there. All pretty awesome dudes.

    Even tho his promos weren’t great he still had the intense look which helped to keep his credibility. I hope he’s living an awesome life nowadays because he was such an amazing mid-carder, which is absolutely a compliment, I think the reason WWF beat WCW is because of the depth in the roster and he was definitely an upper mid-carder. I loved his Shane McMahon match and the Hardcore title win.

    This is the only channel that does research on guys like Blackman. At least the ones I have seen. It's nice to learn about the guys who made up the backbone of the attitude and other eras. Seeing Steve Austin whipping up a legitimate badass like Blackman made him seem more of a threat. Wrestling may be a work, but you need guys like Steve Blackman to make your stars look brighter.

    Another fantastic video and a great tribute to a genuine tough guy. I saw him at the terminal at DIA, he was a very nice individual. I was able to visit with him for about 15 minutes--much of it was about his malaria. I suffered with the West Nile virus years ago so I guess we had something relative to share. Loved his work, glad to hear he's still going strong. I'm gonna check out his bondsman clips now!

    Such a shame that wrestling is an industry where you have to be charismatic to get anywhere in the business. Blackman has some really good work rates that can rival many in the Upper card (especially Benoit who as well had no nonsense attitude but has amazing work rates). Just imagine wrestling in a different world, The Lethal Weapon could have shared the same spot up there with Rock, Austin, HHH, and Undertaker instead of being in a standstill in his career.
    BTW Thank you for doing my request for this video. This channel is officially my favorite on RUclips 🙂

    Nothing but respect for Steve Blackman. He deserved a bigger push than he ended up with. Maybe a brief run as Intercontinental Champion. Have the team of Head-Cheese with Al Snow hold the Tag Team Championship. His reigns as Hardcore Champion were good. Not to mention having a PPV match against Shane McMahon.
    Hall of Fame worthy.

    Paradoxically, it was Steve Blackman's lack of charisma that made him so likeable. He was a refreshing change from the excess and hyperbole that persisted throughout the Attitude Era. He also genuinely looked like he could drop anyone on the main roster.
