Rough Racer looks like it could have been a slightly cut down blast on the Master System, or made a good port to the Mega Drive. So many great racers on this list, definitely a missed opportunity by sega not porting quite a few of these games to Dreamcast, Scud race and Daytona 2 should of definitely been brought home in particular, indy 500 woild of been another nice one to have on console with maybe some extra tracks and modes of play. Enjoyed that pete, top stuff as always mate.
Hey! I've been looking everywhere on the internet for this one racing game I played at the arcades when I was a kid, but never I knew the name of it and it's making me insane to this day. You may know what it was based on what I can remember? So, it was a 2 seat arcade machine, with cars, mid to late 90's 3D look, checkpoint-based. You could play either with a third person view of a "hood" view. I remember it was imported from Japan as it had japanese characters mostly but it was easy to navigate. One of the first races had you completing a track by actually going back to the starting line after a full turn, driving off from a small cliff back into the same track but in reverse. At the end they would show you your results and display an image of a turtle or a rabbit. If that sounds familiar to you, I could finally put this to rest lol Greetings! and subbed :)
As much as I, along with possibly everyone else, would have loved to have a console version of Sega Super GT/Scud Race, my guess is that licensing issues with the racing league the game is based on are ultimately why a console port never came to be.
Great stuff Pete. I really enjoyed watching this one. It was like a stroll down memory lane. A lot of games I played back then but had forgotten about. Any chance we'll see a look through Namco's arcade games? Their racers especially were great too. Hope you're doing well mate 👍
Considering Sega's Astro City Mini just went up for pre-order at import shops like Play-Asia, I'd say it's a perfect time to do some Sega focused Arcade Exclusives episodes :D And hey, the mini cab is confirmed to have stuff like Virtua Fighter (so it's NOT just more 16-bit re-releases, thankfully) and Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder (so they're looking at _some_ former arcade-only exclusives, it seems). Maybe they'll end up putting one or two of these on that thing and people can finally play 'em at home! I know I'd love to see Wave Runner, Daytona 2, or SCUD/Sega Super GT someday, and if any of 'em are on the Astro City Mini, well damn - I guess I'll be nabbing my first "mini console." Also Motor Raid, as I've never heard of that until this vid but a combination of WipeOut's aesthetic and speed mixed with Road Rash's combat looks like something I'd LOVE :D I saw another commenter say it's in Judgment? Well then, guess I'm finally picking up that title! Man, I wonder what arcade game(s) will show up in Yakuza: Like a Dragon? Crossing my fingers for SCUD Race, finally!
Looking at Emergency Call Ambulance reminded me of an arcade game I've been trying to find for years with no luck. This is all from the memory of a 7 year old but it was similar to emergency call, but in addition to Ambulance vehicles you would also drive cop cars and fire trucks. The one thing that specifically sticks out in my memory is a post-credits bonus where you would get to pilot a space shuttle off a runway and into space ending the game. Does anyone happen to remember this game or know what it might be called?
Racing Hero sort of reminded me of Gale Racer as well. Too bad we didn't get a Saturn port of this game using that engine with sprites for the traffic.
Awesome video, but why does everybody forget that Motor Raid DID receive a home port of the arcade version within the Yakuza/Like a Dragon/Judgement series??
Im really late but i was craving some SEGA Racing arcade content, and after typing that in the search bar, this was one of the first reviews i that came up. These are a most of the arcade racers i saw when i was a kid but was too small to actually play them. I knew these games looked and sounded awesome i wish they where still available in arcades here in the US.😢 Good arcade cabins are really hard to find, all i see now are the Raw Thrills racing games that are on rails and are childish levels of simple ( there's no manual trans option and no brake pedal, only 1 throttle pedal 😑)
Yeah, it's a shame arcades died out. We have a great Arcade Club in the north of England (I was there last weekend) and they have all the old classic full-size sit-down cabs, like OutRun 2, Daytona, etc.
These are the games I wish SEGA would re-release and they should also capitalise on some of their abandoned titles e.g Jet Set Radio and Burning Rangers. I've hankered for a sequel/remake of Burning Rangers for a long time, it could be so cool. EDIT it split opinion but I loved Daytona 2001 on DC but Daytona 2 looks cool as well. IMO the late 90's/early 2000's were the golden age of videogames, I adored SEGA's arcade and console output and PC gaming was just awesome at this time too (I still love PC gaming but it's mostly indies that catch the eye these days). EDIT For those who don't know, Motor Raid was included as a mini-game in SEGA's awesome Judgement title, gotta be honest I thought it was shite but still fascinating.
Really enjoyed this mate, never played or heard of most of them. I really liked the look of rough racer, love an isometric racer 😍. I'm surprised you didn't compare it to super off road racer 😆😆.
I have a feeling if the Sega Saturn had an arcade perfect port of Racing Hero as it's pack in game from the start it would have done much better.... or at least had a fantastic start. OutRunners and Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder should have been launch titles. If I ran Sega I would of had a Streets Of Rage 2D sequel and a port of Konami's Run And Gun ready soon after. I also would make a deal with Midway or Nintendo to have a home port of Killer Instinct with a 4/8 meg expansion cartridge for 99.99..... I would just put pictures of Sonic drunk and on a beach passed out on the back of the system packaging to let everyone know he was sitting out this gen.
awsome video but you guys forgot another game that was planned for their port conversion for dreamcast and that was the virtua striker 3 and the lemans 24h arcade from 1997
Some of these (namely Scud Race and Daytona 2) should have got an xbox arcade/PSN release or at least a compilation disc release... and was/ is such a missed opportunity by SEGA... :( Aicom got merged with Sammy so suppose its now part of Sega in a way. Emergency Call was a bit of a lazy Crazy Taxi spin off though, lol. PS. Wondering why didn't you include Segas 1990's HotRod and late 1997 Harley Davidson & LA Riders in this list
Definitely a missed opportunity. I can't remember why I didn't include them as this episode was conceived about a year ago (along with the rest of the series), so when I was compiling the list I either missed them or decided to exclude them. Sega had so many arcade exclusives I did omit quite a few.
Wait a minute... Nascar Arcade *already* was a port of PC Nascar Heat 2000 made by EA, and Wave Runner got it's console port, Wave Runner GP, port of his sequel, to be partiqular
I think you're getting confused on Nascar Arcade - it wasn't a port of Nascar Heat, Sega just licensed the Nascar rights from EA who owned them at the time. It's an entirely different game. And yes, Wave Runner GP was the sequel to Wave Runner, but the original was never ported. By that logic you could say the same about other games here like Daytona.
@@EnzoTestarossa740 yeah mate got them all. Also a mention to the redream emulator its absolutely outstanding. Also play dreamcast games up to 4k resolution.
Ha, whenever there is an Aussie talking about Sega on youtube they do the same little disclaimer about how they say the name wrong at the start. Save yourself some time and just change the way you say it to the actual correct way it is meant to be pronounced, it's not difficult. Same goes for the American "Seggar" people.

Racing Hero sort of reminded me of Gale Racer as well. Too bad we didn't get a Saturn port of this game using that engine with sprites for the traffic.
Saturn and Dreamcast would have been great for some of these.
Awesome video, but why does everybody forget that Motor Raid DID receive a home port of the arcade version within the Yakuza/Like a Dragon/Judgement series??
Thanks! Yeah, quite a few of the games in this series did eventually make it to compilations or via other avenues.
That ambulance game would have been neat on the PC with a steering wheel set up.
Definitely!
Im really late but i was craving some SEGA Racing arcade content, and after typing that in the search bar, this was one of the first reviews i that came up. These are a most of the arcade racers i saw when i was a kid but was too small to actually play them. I knew these games looked and sounded awesome i wish they where still available in arcades here in the US.😢
Good arcade cabins are really hard to find, all i see now are the Raw Thrills racing games that are on rails and are childish levels of simple ( there's no manual trans option and no brake pedal, only 1 throttle pedal 😑)
Yeah, it's a shame arcades died out. We have a great Arcade Club in the north of England (I was there last weekend) and they have all the old classic full-size sit-down cabs, like OutRun 2, Daytona, etc.
@@onaretrotip Nice, I wish I could visit but that'll be pretty hard with me being in the US 😅
22:27 Hotwheels? Was this Hotwheels’ first debut in an arcade game?
Quite possibly!
Yes, so many of their classic games would be ideal for compilation releases. Especially the arcade exclusive games!
Sounds awesome
👍
What a great video. A type of game close to my heart. These games sum up how useless is Sega today. Sitting on a goldmine and never even mentions them
Thanks, Mark! Glad you liked it as it was a lot of fun doing this one. You're not wrong mate.
Really enjoyed this mate, never played or heard of most of them.
I really liked the look of rough racer, love an isometric racer 😍.
I'm surprised you didn't compare it to super off road racer 😆😆.
Hahaha, didn't think of that! Thanks, David.
It's neither Seega nor Say-gah. Fire up any Mega Drive game and it clearly tells you how to pronounce it: Seeeeeeeeggaaaaaa!
LOL
Emergency call ambulance looks amazing, bet Holster loves it!
Shame that didn’t get a DC release
Haha yeah bet she does. A shame indeed.
Why isn't Sega porting these? They should do this instead of making Yakuza 9000
IKR!
Yeah, they really missed an opportunity with arcade ports on the Saturn (especially in the West).
it Nice to my Scud Race game play Footage thank you onaretrotip
Thank you!!!
U said that ambulance game wouldn't have greet on consoles because of the cabinet.well neither was 18 wheeler but that still got a release ❤️❤️
Hahaha true!
Well done
Thank you, Greg!
Now Daytona 2 is out 🎉🎉🎉
IKR!
awsome video but you guys forgot another game that was planned for their port conversion for dreamcast and that was the virtua striker 3 and the lemans 24h arcade from 1997
This isn't all the exclusive racing games. Virtua Striker obv not a racing game!
What about stadium cross? Loved that game
I'm sure we didn't cover *every* Sega racing game. Don't think I've played that, although I am aware of it.
Nascar arcade is also notable as it was the game that crush40 cut their teath on before sonic adventure 2.
Good info!
16:22 mecânica do outrun2 PS2/Xbox/pc
Yes!
Some of these (namely Scud Race and Daytona 2) should have got an xbox arcade/PSN release or at least a compilation disc release... and was/ is such a missed opportunity by SEGA... :(
Aicom got merged with Sammy so suppose its now part of Sega in a way.
By that logic you could say the same about other games here like Daytona.
thanks
You're very welcome!
Thank god for the supermodel emulator. Play in 4k to unbelievable
😎👍
Thank God for MAME, Model 2,and Demul emulators to enjoy our all time favorites 😊
@@EnzoTestarossa740 yeah mate got them all. Also a mention to the redream emulator its absolutely outstanding. Also play dreamcast games up to 4k resolution.
Where is Out Run !!!!!
OutRun is possibly the least exclusive racer Sega ever made LOL. It was released on almost everything!
Rad Mobile?
That was released on Saturn, albeit renamed to Gale racer.
Where's Initial D?
EDIT: Oh yeah, Daytona 2 is now playable on console and PC officially as a part of LAD Gaiden.
Initial D isn't exclusive to arcades. Yeah, pretty cool about Daytona 2!
@@onaretrotip Every installment from 5 onwards is, though.
@@ArbitraryOutcome Ah, I see. Way too recent for this video.
Awesome
Thanks, Jonathon!
Dude as Racing Fan I would spend all my coins to play all of them... Kinda shame throught It hard to find a Arcade place In today Portugal :/
To be honest it's quite hard here too, although there are a few really good arcade places in the UK.
" 🌊 ga" - im sorry i had to
🐳
They didn't yelll SEHGA? in commercials and start of games there?
SEHGA? Nope. They just said Sega the same as when you load up Sonic (Say-Gah).
Top Vid
Thank you!
Got them all on emulators
😂
Hello, vendes este compilado para poder descargar?
I don't sell anything, but all these ROMs can be played on MAME.
you´ve forgot LeMans24
Yeah, it's not every arcade exclusive Sega racer.
LOL yeah, I know. I have Aussie friends who pronounce it correctly, but also i can see how it's hard having mispronounced it all your life.
? End?
Huh?
@@onaretrotip don't have moderns?
