You are one of the BIG reasons things are closing down on dirtbikes, too, many, assholes who just wanna do what they want. Lotta squids like you give the whole sport a bad name, then the next thing you do is get a quad.
Commiefornia, I was born and raised there, and lived there for about 60 years. CA sucks so bad if you like power sports, I took my dirt bikes, and boat and moved to Idaho. No smog restrictions in Northern Idaho, and unlimited trails to ride on and many beautiful lakes. I saved so much on living that I bought two side by sides and 4Runner. In the winter you can ride snow machines and excellent skiing is 45 minutes away. Yeah, there is snow but the summers are like heaven.
I had to give up dirt bikes and move to mountain bikes to have access anywhere near where I live (Minnesota now) 👎. Just recently built an ebike. No registration and can ride anywhere (except National forests), bike trails, sidewalks, road, trails of any kind. What gets me is, how many emissions do dirt bike really create? With respect to other sources.
It's all about the money. Electric vehicles cost more than gas powered engines and last shorter on one charge than gas does. On top of that, it can take around an hour to recharge electric, whereas refueling only takes about 2 to 4 minutes.
I think it is absolutely unnecessary in 90% of the state. L.A makes up (land wise) a TINY portion of the state yet they control everything. And I mean, E.V.E.R.Y thing. Something has to change. Sadly, between gun laws, emissions and cost of living, I have quite literally been kicked out of the state. I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to move back, but I can not foresee that happening, unfortunately. SUCH a wonderful state, recreationally speaking, I really do miss it. I remember from the time I was about 8 years old to 23 years old, riding in Notorious areas without any kind of sticker or registration of any sort, never having problems with the law enforcers (granted I ran every single time lol never got caught) and I rode on streets, to school (parked at a buddies house just up the road from school) man I miss it haha Palmdale/Littlerock area was AMAZING growing up riding everywhere. I lived earshot distance from LACR and would ride my bike there to go practice. Great times.
Short answer is: I think it is an overreach. Long answer: I think they want everyone to have that shiny carb sticker and buy new. I would say if they wanted to clean the air, there would be more of a market for universal emissions control devices. Especially for the vehicles that no longer have either OEM or model specific aftermarket parts on the market. New cars and bikes provide a sweet kickback for the state.
I am positive their must be some kind of solution that can please all , here out East we only get to enjoy if we are lucky 3 months of good riding because of the weather being such of a factor, now on the other hand the West can enjoy riding almost all year so maybe somebody taking a positive approach and trying to come up with a solution to the restrictions, would make much more noise in those ears that are coming up with these restrictions
What about out-of-state? I'm being forced there (military). I *will not* be registering any vehicle, nor becoming a resident of the state of CA for a slew of obvious reasons... and I'm protected by the SCRA from being forced to (servicemembers civil relief act) What would out of state riders need to know about riding both on-road and off-road?
If you DO NOT have to register your vehicles in CA, then you would just need an off-road registration to drive off-road and a street legal registration to drive on road.
Can you get a red sticker for a 2022 CRF450R that was bought in late 2021? I have the MSO stating the 2021 date. I'm thinking of buying a slightly used 2022 CRF450R.
We wouldn't register in California at all, but we can register it out of state for you to ride on trails or we can street legalize it if you want to ride on and off road.
That still won't make OHVs street legal, and California could make you transfer the out of state registration back into their state since you reside in CA whether it's street registered or not.
@@DirtLegal my primary residence is Idaho and I only ride dirt. I could care less about being street legal. If I want a street legal bike I would just buy a KTM dual sport.
If I was to register my quad outside of California how to those non exempt work? Will my quad still be considered a red sticker even if it already has one?
Since it's an older bike you should be able to use it as long as you have the proof of ownership California requires. We can assist you with the ownership documents if needed.

Federal land... there is a lot of it in California.
Follow the trail. It all leads back to money. They will do and make up whatever they can to squeeze more money out of people.
Green, Red, after 58 years I'm just gonna make it simple for me and leave CA, 😢
We can always register it for you out of state so red and green stickers aren't a worry.
It’s tuffer again on middle class people trying to go into the sport
Not necessarily. Just buy used and you can avoid this, as it only applies to new bikes.

Solution is to leave CA. I left a few decades ago but almost everyone I know who used to live in CA left for AZ.
Do 50cc or under need to be registered even as a motorcycle /motor driven cycle or need to have a license
It depends on the state you live in, but our service will register 50's as a motorcycle.
I got a 1 year out of state hov sticker from my local off road store for 30 bucks no questions asked
How did do you do that? Can I email you privately?
We just stay the hell out of California
So if I send my info and pay for a plate
Then I can ride legally ?? Without the stickers with a new 2022 dirt bike?
The stickers only apply to CA. If its registered out of state, you will have a registration sticker and license plate.
But I believe CA. requires a vehicle with out of state plate be registered for CA. within 30days. How do I pass emissions then?
