There should be a cap on where they (religious organizations) would get taxed. And, it’s not that hard to point at who needs to get it-just look at the televangelists with mansions or Scientology as a whole.
True - they’re usually always struggling. Another solution would be don’t let fake churches or cults be recognized by the IRS or the government as a religion. They give the real churches a bad name.
Easy to fall into. Personality tests, scientific and modern sounding, fashionable and hip with other celebrities doing it, the internet exposes didn't exist yet. And it's hard enough for an ordinary person to get out - admitting to yourself you've been scammed, being humiliated, the fear of losing friends and family etc. Now a celebrity? When on top of all that you've been revered and your experience is as pleasant as they can make it? And you also might have skeletons in your closet?
On of those churches is at the end of my street. It’s always very suspiciously EMPTY. I’ve never seen more than one car in the parking lot, even Sundays. There’s a no trespassing sign and the parking is roped off. It’s a totally obvious scam. I have no idea how this continues. Although the lights are always on in the entire building.... no one is ever there. Creepy!

South Park should be praised, not just for a wildly entertaining show but for bringing complete and utter ridiculousness to light. Their show on Scientology was excellent. I would put money on it that there were devout Scientologists that watched that episode and disbanded from Scientology all together. Matt Stone and Trey Parker are a couple very weird dudes. They do however have some great qualities. They bring complete bullshit to light and do not hold any punches when mocking it. They don't let huge social issues get away with anything if they can help it. They always seem to be on the right side as well. Religion in itself is the greatest practical joke that has ever existed in the Universe. It was a necessary tool to create order in some very dark times of humanity. It is definitely not needed anymore as it has just become lunacy in it's practices. Like the Great George Carlin said, worship whoever you want and your prayers will typically be answered 50/50. George said he chose to pray to Joe Pesci and his prayers were answered 50/50 most of the time.
Andrew Woodson I’ve always been shocked that Kevin James hasn’t done the podcast. I’m not sure if he would because Kevin James doesn’t do a lot of long form shows
I said the same thing Julia said when I arrived at the missionary training center before my mission. I’m like, “We’re telling this the first time we meet them?!” The hard thing for Mormons is that we have all of the Book of Mormon stuff he mentioned PLUS the Catholic stuff. And that’s the Disney version. Most Mormons don’t even know the correct version. South Park was closer there too.
Yeah, they need to do better at planning out how to teach the discussions to make the process a little more uniform. Why would you go 0-800mph when you haven’t even gotten to 60 yet.
Yup, back in the day when people thought about Scientology, they thought about as some weird "self help" shit that called itself a religion. And i watched a documentary where one former member said he got hooked when some guy offered him to read some of their texts and flat out said "hey, if you try it and it works who cares if it's true?" And that is how they hook people. People who lack motivation, lack "purpose" etc suddenly gets some religion who flat out tells them to earn a shit of money and how to earn that money etc (in order to pay in to the religion aswell). Off course some people are going to get hooked by it. That's how cults works
People don't contribute? Literally, a lot of churches serve the poor: clothing ministry, soup kitchens, meals throughout the week, hypothermia shelters, etc. Not talking about Scientology, but the whole thing about churches not contributing isn't true. I don't respect the folks who only give through taxes or around Christmas. Say what you want about it, but some folks are genuine in their faith and service to their community.
Some religions do but most are just full of shit and do nothing but judge their fellow human beings, and do nothing to help anyone but themselves. Like Alexandre said they fuck children and destroy their lives but because we’re brought up to believe they are all good society gives them a free pass. Some of the most evil predators ever are “good religious people”. Anyone remember Dennis Rader? If there really is a God, and I ever get to meet him I would love to punch the asshole right in the face.
TV Evangelists don't contribute would be more accurate. All these frauds need a department that can investigate all religious foundations and root out the frauds and expose them. I just want to address the early part of this video when Joe talks about taxation on religions, and uses examples of mega-churches. This is a poorly used example because it’s always applied broadly. “Joel Olsteen is mega rich from robbing people in his church, ergo tax churches.” There’s a lot more “small-time” churches, synagogues, mosques, temples or whatever you wanna call it that don’t have a bank account in the Cayman Islands. Lots of them that don’t belong to some larger catholic/Mormon mega group that pools their money. You’d end up closing a lot of doors. On top of which, and probably more importantly, once you open the door up wider between government and organized religion via taxation, you invite more influence and a stronger takeover. Because now they can have a stronger say in what you do.
What do you mean by pay taxes. Any employee the church has to pay income taxes. if they own their own home they have to pay property taxes on it. Churches are, as are all nonprofits, exempt from corporate taxes and property taxes. So, in case you didn't get it, these wealthy televangelists have to pay income tax on all of their income and property taxes on any homes that they own. If you insist that all churches should start paying taxes, then you should also insist that all nonprofits should start paying taxes.
Nothing on this correction of Joe's belief for 6 months. People believe what they want to believe, until when? Until they really feel the pain of the lie. Getting the approval of your audience seems to keep the pain hidden. Wanting to be special is why we left the Oneness of God. Thinking you are special is a drug. This is not a condemnation of Joe and the service he is doing. He has done much positive. It's just a correction of one idea.

I get the criticism of corruption in churches, but the whole "tax the churches" spiel really hurts being on the other end of churches barely scraping by and still trying to do everything they can for their communities.

There should be a cap on where they (religious organizations) would get taxed. And, it’s not that hard to point at who needs to get it-just look at the televangelists with mansions or Scientology as a whole.

@rodger rodger So true.
Pesci is better than that...l

Because Joe probably met him a handful of times and now believes he is his friend
Joe said once that Kevin James would never do his podcast. He's really religious and image conscious and won't be associated with drug use/advocacy.
Will Martin They did a whole movie together called "Here comes the Boom"
That's best for all of us, whether you're religious or not. I mean John fucking Oliver created a church praise be, praise be
@@rob9965 I wouldn't say most but I do believe those people need to be rooted out and punished like hell hath no further whether they are Buddhist priests, Muslim mullahs, Jewish rabbis, Christian priests or any other. Also frauds should be rooted out as well

Joe needs to have Lee Strobel and Ravi Zacharias on his show to discuss Christianity and other world views
Why?
They would be too uptight.
Why not?
I think the point of the podcast is to discuss differing ideas and opinions. Joe could ask pointed questions and Ravi or Lee could answer, instead of just bashing. It would be a good forum to have a Mormon and a Church of Scientology representative as well, though they won't as their ideas probably won't stand scrutiny.
Strobel would be crucified by Rogan. He has the weakest arguments for Christianity that can be easily dismantled with logic.
Leonard Cohen and friends were into it for a while. ‘Famous Blue Raincoat’ has a line like ‘on the night that you planned to go clear’. I wonder if Cohen ever got to hear the Xenu story back then or if they were a bit more open with that story back then (or if LRH had even pulled that out of thin air yet back then).

I just want to address the early part of this video when Joe talks about taxation on religions, and uses examples of mega-churches.
This is a poorly used example because it’s always applied broadly. “Joel Olsteen is mega rich from robbing people in his church, ergo tax churches.”
There’s a lot more “small-time” churches, synagogues, mosques, temples or whatever you wanna call it that don’t have a bank account in the Cayman Islands.
“She just moves to LA, you should have her on the podcast.”
“Yeah I’d love to.”

No one "pays taxes", taxes are taken by threatening to ruin your life. That's extortion.
Didn't cost me a penny to learn about zenu, and my mind just thanked me for not having to kick my ass.
