As one person just because the lead singer turned away from Christianity doesn't mean the song loses it's meaning. He or she also said that it might even enhance it because even though the lead singer turned away from Christianity God still uses it to minister to us.

Wow. I was expecting this to be good, but I am blown away. Amazing song and it really hits home for me. God was my parachute years ago and I am so thankful for Him every single day of my life. He brought me out of a pit and made me whole again. He did fix me. I'm so happy now and it's all because of Him.

Team hawk nelson. I gotta tell you that you were one of the first things that God used to call me out. One day I decided to search whatever band English rock because I started learning it. And I found you then I like the first one I found and next and next. But I didn't understand who did you sing out. And I didn't care until google you up and found that you sing to Jesus. That moment was the most power, I felt so power inside me like holy spirit just touched me. And my life started change because of you. I started to sing under his power and now my life isn't the same. Then I started to live things that many poeple here can't believe and one day I'd like to share you. I pleased to you to believe in God and spread to me by your songs with his beautiful power and grace.

Jason Dunn found a way to still express faith without the overused cliches in Contemporary Christian Music nowadays. The first album under Jonathan, 'made' was somehow different and better than the new stuff. I know Christian labels now push for the similar cliched from artist because you, Christians, want it. Christian music doesn't need to be boring and devoid of any originality and creativity (see John Mark McMillan, Future of Forestry). Artist need to show some effort coming up with music, writing lyrics that display creative and critical thought, to write about the struggles people face in and outside of Christianity. Many artists have started out great, showing a bit of originality but end up drifting to this pool of endless similar songs, with similar lyrics, albeit written in different order by different artists.
I am not saying that Hawk Nelson should go back to being what it was under Jason, just that you need to find your own style. Write music that speaks to our daily human experiences (government inaction and corruption in Letters to the president, being a kid dreaming big in Head on Collision, friends parting ways in Lest We Forget/Final Toast, the craziness in Media Ode to Lord Stanley. . .). And I guess the new members had a hand in writing some of these old songs.
