This! I have no idea why they made the grass puke green in reforged. At least with this texture and shader setup, the tones are a lot closer to W3 classic
Edit: Come to think of it, it feels like someone puked all over the color pallet in the released version of reforged

Are you sure about that ? just look at any random Lordaeron tileset terrain and tell me how is it "darker" than the one shown in current Reforged ? ruclips.net/video/ZGs1Gn2etUM/видео.html
So the question is, why does it look fine in classic war3 and not in Reforged ? its because the tileset textures weren't done closer to the original ones so they effectively auto reterrained the entire game because they thought just by pumping in some random 4K terrain textures that are misaligned to how classic was would do the trick and wouldn't need further work. The funny part is, if the tileset textures were more aligned they wouldn't need to reterrain thousands of maps the game has just to make it look good, something that they never had the ability to do not only because their budget was slashed but because in the grand scope of trying to execute a project with limited resources, overambitious ideas just end up in unfinished sections of a project.

Coming back to this video, since it made me buy WC3R. It was at a 66% discount but even then it felt like they were stealing money from me fr.
After I saw this video, I decided to give the game a shot after all, and boy it was everything I wanted.
So I gave 10 dollars to Blizzard, 5 dollars to the authors of Quenching, and 5 dollars to InsaneMonster, leaving me with a 33% discount but with the satisfaction of reliving my childhood the way I wanted.

      @ashfields9273  8 месяцев назад +2

Thanks, the guide is intended for campaign. There's still a bit more work to be done, might need to revert some changes here and there as some have been too drastic.
As for model readability, depending on how much time I have, I may include a section on how to setup custom unit models. I'm experimenting with Warcraft 3 Rebirth, a set of hand-made models with more polygons and better textures which was designed for classic, but I've managed to get some of it working in Reforged, and it is a night and day difference in terms of readability. However for campaign, they look really weird, as the HD animations used in cutscenes aren't present. But for normal play outside of campaign, it does the job fairly well. Still need to test it further tho

I fail to see what does this fix about the Reforged graphics, after the 2018 showcase an overwhelming amount of people criticized the graphics for looking too dark, gritty and muddy. so they made an effort to try and remedy this.
You just took it back to the original mistake it had, not that it looks good after the so called "fix" but this isn't even good.
look at the Lordaeron trees in the Strathholm mission of this "After" showcase, it looks like its plagued with sick green, who's genius idea was that ?
Kalimdors "After" completely took out the iconic reddish feeling of the terrain.
Lordaerons Attumn "After" looks worse than the before one because it lost what little contrast it had between the orange trees and the terrain.
Ashenvales terrain does look better than before so i guess thats +1
The training camp in Re-Re is actually re-terrained so its trying to look better, but the After effect of that completely scars the terrain from any grass and just makes it look like its borderline ready to be corrupted by undead, thats another BIG OOF like the sick trees in Strathholme.
Terrain texture tiles in Reforged are lacking verity so they need alot of manual effort to make it look good, its possible to remedy this mistake in an appropriate way but its going to take alot more careful effort than just swapping it with "random" complex terrain tiles.
And please title your videos more honestly, without any change to the Reforged HD models and the way they're rendered, there is virtually nothing changed that can be considered a "fix" to many of the technical and surface level problems of this polarizing visual overhaul.
Reforged graphics can't be fixed, it has its own audience that enjoys them and the rest of everyone else just uses classic, so it is what it is.
There is still some people who fancy Reforged in how it looked in 2018, but they are a minority compared to the people who are playing the HD game as it is now or the mass of people who dont even bother and stick with classic.

    • @ashfields9273
      @ashfields9273  8 месяцев назад +6

Your first point about Blizzcon 2018 being dark, gritty and muddy. Well guess what, the bottom one looks WORSE. No more shadowing, ambient occlusion, bloom - all the shader effects seem to be completely gone. You can't possibly look at 0:08 and tell me that the bottom image looks prettier than the top. If I wanted to play with older graphics, I'd play classic. The selling point of reforged was to make it current gen. The 2018 Blizzcon was what made me and many others pre-order it. Instead we just got $60 models.
As for the Lordaeron trees in the Strathholm mission of this "After" showcase, buddy, nobody is getting paid to create these textures, so chill out a bit. You can sit here and criticize all you want, but people do this for free. I was experimenting with various textures, and which one would best match the new shaders from Quenching. It's all work in progress. And guess what? If you specifically don't like the tree texture, just don't use that texture and use the default one. Simple.
Lorderon autumn tree textures weren't even touched. It's probably the way the modded shaders work to give some shadowing to the HD models. It has a side effect of making the characters look shiny too, if you see my other videos like the night elf one. Only way to work around that is to create a new texture to go with the modded shader. Personally I don't see an issue, I'm looking for a cinematic experience, not some APM mashing gameplay
And your comments about Kalimdor and RR are purely subjective. I chose what looks best to ME (and probably others as well, who knows).
And there's nothing dishonest with how my video is titled. What do you want? An essay for a title? Fix is such a subjective term, it can be an aesthetic fix to suit one's personal taste.
Bruh some people just want the game to look pretty. It doesn't have to be a 1:1 match tileset for tileset. Just play classic if you want a purist experience

      @@ashfields9273
Your first paragraph seems too generic of a statement instead of a specific reply to something ive said, The top and bottom ones both fail at looking good for the appropriate needs of a warcraft 3 visual overhaul. There is more than one way to improve on the game without completely pulling a 180 on the style and feel of the game. nothing is black and white.
I dont care if no one is getting paid to do these, i point out the critiques that caught my eye, you can complain about my criticism but you cant run away from your poor attempt of titling this as "iz lookz better" the BEST you can do is "My graphics overahul Project". not "Fixing the graphics of Warcraft 3 Reforged"
Yeah Lordaerons attumn tree isn't touched its the lighting effects themselves that just make the entire thing look like a giant blurr of orange mist.
My comments about Kalimdor is about as objective as it can get, Kalimdor is suppose to look reddish, if you change that, you can't call it an improvement, you can just call it changed based on your personal preference. Its like if i go to WoW take the Alterac Mountains terrain remove all the snow from it then include it in my video with a title named "its now fixed"
Your title can be named to whatever you like, just dont call it "i fixed the graphics" because that's a lie both on objective grounds that i haven't even discussed with you and on subjective grounds. there is nothing wrong with you testing out things that you think looks cool, just tone down your titles strong wording.
You said you're a guy who never played the original game and now you're back and just want things to look pretty, let me ask you something, does a game like Heros of the Storm look ugly and trash to you ? here's my main point, most of the people who dislike the Reforged graphics dont do it because they hate anything that's not a purest 1 to 1 remake, they dislike it because its its a complete 180 in style, you can't NOT expect people to have an issue with that.
The biggest mistake you can ever do is assuming anyone who dislike the Reforged graphics is just a purist who wants to play 1v1 competitively, the overhauling of the visuals of the game is far more than just slapping 4K textures and hundreds of thousands of polygons on models and calling it a day, especially for warcraft 3 alot of important things need to be met, for mapmakers, for custom games players, for custom campaign makers, for melee players.
This issue is far more complicated than arbitrary distaste for HD, i myself would've welcome improved visual overhauls and bringing the game up to a modern standard, but i would advocate for that while trying to maintain more of the stylistic look of the game, and they might have advertised this game as a remake, its not, its a remaster, the original game is still under Reforged running the entire game.
A good visual overhaul to the game wouldn't divide its playerbase like this, it would unify them, people would change their minds and move over, that is simply not what the Reforged HD graphics did, heck, the models dont even have good performance because they're mostly poorly optimized or have too much details for an RTS Game, i understand that alot of people wanted to see pretty visuals and shiny cutscenes, but those people forget that War3 was alive almost more than a decade while Blizzard abandoned it after the release of patch 1.26 in 2006, and when they returned to it, instead of starting on a blank page they shouldve created something more suitable for the games audience while also making sure it has enough modernization to attract a new audience.
Warcraft 3 is known by alot of its core values, a good visual style suitable for RTS games, easy to modify models, easy to modify special effects, and custom games that dont take up too much space on your computer as opposed to entire mods in other video games that need installing and uninstalling and come with a brickload of baggage.
Blizzard promised smooth transition of player made maps in a seamless way from classic to Reforged. that was never done, the visual overhaul was so poorly thought out and out of style that it create a crater between people instead of having something that they can agree with.
All of these values help improve war3 and make it more accessible not less, Reforgeds models are a pain in the neck to modify, the only reason it is even remotely modified is because 1 person decided to update his model making tool to support HD models, imagine if that person wasnt.(A person that supported model editting and never abandoned the game for 2 decades). imagine if that person wasn't in a time where Blizzard PROMISED to release their inhouse tools to the community but never did because it was just unfeasible. the special effects cant even be modified outside of basic recolors because Blizzard decided to use a technology called popcornfx to create its VFX, a tech that requires buying a licence for 800$... its cheap from blizzards end but a completely anti modder friendly move, its so awkward that HD maps use the old special effects creation method and just use higher quality textures and more adjustment to fit classic special effects in HD.
"I just want the game to look pretty" is entirely achievable WHILE avoiding all of these mistakes. The game survived all this time because it has fans that worked on the custom content for the game to provide entertainment and increase the value of the game, and also because of melee players who either play it casually or competitively... the least all of these people deserve is a visual overhaul that doesn't do a radical 180 but instead reaches an olive branch and tries to find a nice middle ground between meeting the needs of their potential audiences in order for MOST people to WELCOME and EMBRACE something that is new, not get told by out of touch people like you to "just play classic bru uz purist".
I'm about as purist as your knowledge on the ins and outs of the requirements that this games visual overhaul needed in order to succeed and not be polarizing. which is next to none..
A game that can get away by making the remake "just look pretty" is something like Resident Evil remakes, its just a singleplayer game, there is no strings attached, there is no special things they need to do to make sure it doesn't go overboard, there no such thing as making sure the models aren't overdetailed because its an RTS game. its just a 3rd person cult classic that needs to be remade in High Definition. but Warcraft 3 has alot of strings that needed to have been respected so that the game WOULDN'T end up in the mess that it did.

@@StormKnight1 Let's agree to disagree on the title because that's a huge rabbit hole we can go down into. This is fairly common. There's a video by Acerola that says he "fixed" the graphics of Final Fantasy 14. It's a bunch of reshade/gshade shaders that he tweaked with many experiments to go along with it. I honestly didn't really see it as a fix but more of a color enhancement. This type of wording seems to be fairly common with youtube titles. Even for mods in various games (Elder Scrolls, Witcher, etc), if you check nexusmods have namings like these, where the default model/texture is perfectly fine, but it's a "fix" in the creator's eyes. But like I said, agree to disagree, it's not really a point I'm interested in discussing tbh
I see your point about Kalimdor. Just booted up WoW classic to check the aesthetics. The orc starting area is definitely more reddish, tho I will say the actual barrens zone is less redish, but yeah the textures here look more like Tanaris or Uldum (from Catacalysm). I'll see how I can tweak it. The point of this is to get people to download the textures/models/shaders and experiment to see which one they like best (I have a 2 hour guide on modding STALKER, and some did complain about how long the video is, but it's more about teaching a man to fish than giving a man a fish - which is what I want to do, to keep things as customizable as possible)
As for Heros of the Storm looking ugly and trash to me, ermm... no? I think the game looks pretty. The contrast and mix of colors look great. For reforged, I did expect people to have issue with the change in style, but I always make a distinction between remaster and remake. Starcraft was a remaster, but for W3R, when watching the blizzcon 2018 demo, I definitely thought it was going to be a remake because many things changed. Personally I don't mind if remakes go against the original art style, I only mind if remasters do. But that's just me. (I'm replying as I'm reading your comment, so I see you've addressed the remake vs remaster issue - yes, as a remaster it doesn't work)
About me assuming anyone who dislike the Reforged graphics is just a purist who wants to play 1v1 competitively, ok fair enough. I see your point. I only play the campaign and nothing else when it comes to RTS games, so I didn't take into consideration (nor do I want to, tbh - I barely have free time as it is) the impact it will have on mapmakers, for custom games players, for custom campaign makers, for melee players, etc.
As for everything else, no disagreement there.

@@StormKnight1 I think you're being very unfair - not to mention the sense of entitlement in your comments... • @StormKnight1

@@ashfields9273 I still dont agree with the title of your video but you're not wrong about the commonality of how people title their videos, if i wanted to be uptight about this more than half of all of youtube needs to re-title their videos to be more honest. doesn't mean i like it when i see it, the average click bait, the only reason i pointed it out to you is because it was related to war3 and i cared for it.
We talked about issues regarding terrain, tilesets and so forth in discord so i dont have much to say, i'm glad you looked up wow for some reference. 🙂
Heros of the Storm does look pretty, i pointed it out because alot of people who like RF HD think there is no other way to make a beautiful looking HD game, heros of storm clocks in at 17GB for required space, its pretty well optimized, has amazing looking art style and visual flare to it, Reforged clocks in at 28Gb for filespace and is mostly a mess for many reasons explained prior. there is actually backported Hots models in Hive if you're interested.
I'm just happy to clarify a few things, because, some people are just looking around to see if they can play around and have some experiments with the visuals but they're not uptight about it and are also open to various points, i think you're that type of guy after talking to you more.
But there are some people who maliciously think, or misinform others, to think that classic war3 fans are just anti change assholes who are nostolgic. that's just false on so many levels. the classic graphics has enough advantages and merits to be a dominant preference by the games audience, know this, if the HD graphics was done more appropriately and in respect to the various needs that the game had, instead of having a situation like now where HD custom projects are few and far between, most of the custom games community which includes many singleplayer Custom Campaigns that have been polished by veteran developers for anywhere between 5 to 15 years would have moved over and embraced the change very quickly. Reforged had a chance to push the content that had been accumulated for so many years by people to a new modern age. it just failed at upholding its promise by delivering something that didn't fit to the war3 puzzle piece.
On an ending note, i dont blame you for thinking War3 was a remake and not a remaster, the blizzard marketting team lie very effectively, while under the hood with some dev leaks and foresight it was very obvious that its going to be a remaster because remaking the game would mean incompatibility with the games previous user made content and thus a massive reduction in accumulated value.
