    I get a lot of puzzles second hand at thrift stores. Actually, most are not missing pieces. But we have developed a system to repair them if they are. My wife traces out the missing piece on paper, glues it to thin wood as close to thickness of puzzle as possible. I cut it out on my scroll saw. She sands it on her sanding board to thin it down to correct thickness. Also, I use my Dremel if needed to fine shape curves. Then she lightly paints it with water to raise the grain, lets it dry, re-sands it smooth, then paints it with acrylic paint to match the puzzle in all the details. When it is dry we seal it with mod podge matte, satin or gloss to match the puzzle finish as closely as possible. Takes us about an hour or so to make a new piece. Does is look EXACTLY? Well, we get pretty darn close! Better than a blank hole for sure! Just adds another dimension to our puzzle adventures! But we enjoy yours, too! Thanks for sharing with us!

      WOW!! That's team work haha! Good system I must say, shows dedication. And like yo say, 100% better than a blank!! Didn't know your wife was also watching the videos. It's awesome that you guys share the same hobby. Must be nice to be able to talk about stuff that you both enjoy and do the stuff together just because it makes you both happy!

    I like having your honest reaction! I agree with others, it does happen on occasion that puzzles are shipped either missing pieces or with extra pieces (I've been lucky so far to only get extra pieces with my newly purchased puzzles). But pieces are also quite adept at hiding in some strange places so I definitely get you not wanting to blame Buffalo when you're not sure. I like Buffalo a lot for a budget puzzle line - the pieces don't feel as good as higher quality ones but I feel they always go together just fine and never give me any problem. And as to what to do with the puzzle, I usually will give it away if it's only missing a piece or two (more than a couple and I just toss it) as long as I clearly mark the front of the box as missing. I also circle on the box where the missing piece(s) go. I figure that way, people are fully informed and know it's missing and they can choose if they want it. I don't frame or glue puzzles though, just pack them back up, so missing pieces aren't a huge deal to me.

      @JigsawJohnie  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah same here, I never frame them so I'm fine, I moved on already haha I was just mad that day :) Thanks for the comment, really appreciated!!

      @@JigsawJohnie Thinking about it more, I probably would be much more upset to be missing a piece in a brand new puzzle. I'm fine with it for second hand puzzles because it's part of the trade for me and a risk I don't mind taking. And when those are missing a piece or two, not a big deal. Something I purchased new, I would be more disappointed in.

  • @aphetrerryac3603

    No, don't blame the dog.😊
    - I buy a lot of Buffalo Game jigsaw puzzles and rarely do I find a missing piece due to production. I have blamed Buffalo Games, in the past, on a missing piece and then ended up finding that "missing piece" in another room, in my pocket -- in a sock. I think it just happens sometimes -- but rarely.
    - I took a Ravensburg puzzle to the office (an unopened brand-new puzzle) and a piece was missing -- bummed out everyone who worked the puzzle in the office's destress area😵‍💫
    - Buffalo Games does have some great images. Yes, give them another try. Do make the decision to dump them based on just one puzzle.

    I usually don't mind missing pieces if informed upfront with second hand puzzles (I buy a lot secondhand knowing there will be pieces missing) , but I expect a complete puzzle when buying new. It happens so often that new puzzles are incomplete or have extra pieces. I feel so sad when I see extra pieces, because guaranteed, someone is missing that piece. So sorry your puzzle is missing that piece, it is such a beautiful puzzle.

    Yes, it sucks when that happens! 95% of my puzzles are from Buffalo Games and I've had some with a missing piece. I just fill out Buffalo Games missing piece form, upload photo highlighting where the piece is missing and they usually send me another puzzle (a different one). I like that Buffalo Games puzzles have a large variety, good quality, easy to find locally and are not real expensive (at least there not in my state).

      You are right about that: I'm in Canada and they're everywhere, it Walmart and all. Easy to find, good pictures/artwork and decent price too!

  • @fellowpuzzler

    Based on my personal experience about 2% of new puzzles will either be missing a piece or have an extra piece which means that someone else is missing a piece. The worst case I have seen was one puzzle with one missing piece and five extra duplicate pieces. Some manufacturers offer a piece replacement service but I prefer buying from a store that has a good replacement policy. Puzzles Canada is one of them and they will replace a puzzle for up to 6 months after purchase if you are missing one or more pieces.
    I used to assemble my puzzles on the kitchen table where pieces could go missing more easily. One time, a piece had fallen in between the table panels where the extension goes. Another one had fallen between the cushion and the back of a chair and I only found it when I flipped the chair upside down for vacuuming. You never know where they could turn up. In my new puzzle room I made sure there is no place for a missing piece to hide so when one is missing I am certain that it wasn't in the box.
    One tip I can give you is to always check the bag very carefully. I know that Buffalo puzzles don't come in one but most brands do and it's easy to miss a piece stuck at the bottom of the bag. I have taken the habit of never throwing away the bag until the puzzle is complete for that very reason.

    • @JigsawJohnie
      @JigsawJohnie  5 месяцев назад +1

      Ohh wow I didn't know about that policy!! That's crazy! Thanks for the tip. Good idea to have a room specific for that with nowhere to hide ;)

    I agree with you, I used to do a lot of Buffalo games puzzles, but not anymore. There’s to many quality brands these days. I hate when I end up missing a piece, I usually donate the puzzle then, however I keep it for a while in case the piece turns up. Especially if it’s an expensive puzzle. I once bought a brand new Ravensburger puzzle that was missing 6 pieces and had 3 duplicate pieces. I don’t know who was drinking on the job that day at the factory. 😂 By the way, your dog is adorable. A Frenchy, right? I have two Boston terriers. Love those flat faced dogs.❤️

    I agree completely about Buffalo puzzles. I bought two, including Plumes of Color, after seeing it on your channel. Wowza, such bad quality. The pieces were thick but not in a good way, they were puffy and felt cheap. They were peeling and some of them were bumpy because they were bubbling and getting ready to peel. Plumes of Color was a pretty image but it went straight into the donation pile. Now I am worried about the other one I got, haven’t done it yet.
    It’s hard to work bad quality puzzles once you get used to better ones, so fair warning on that! I won’t buy another Buffalo or another Ceaco after an experience I had with a multi-pack of those. 👎🏻

    • @JigsawJohnie
      @JigsawJohnie  5 месяцев назад

      Never had a Ceaco before. Will have to check it once but I have the feeling it's the same as Buffalo. Sorry you had a bad experience with the Plumes. Now I tried more brands and I know the difference!

    It's more common than you think, it could be your dog, but most of the times it came that way.
    My dog will eat it if I'm not looking, or it's just laying on the floor. But since I started doing puzzles in one sitting and recording, I see that it actually didn't even came in the box.
    Here in Brazil, people trade international puzzles with missing pieces and even sell it and the nacional ones will send you the missing pieces or even send a new one. I just donate them to people who can't afforded.

    It is annoying when you find that a brand new puzzle has a piece or more missing. Nothing new though, I've had new puzzles in the past that had pieces missing. There was one epic one that had 980 pieces, 7 outside doubles, 4 outside missing, 45 inside doubles, 70 inside missing and 2 stray pieces. I kept laughing every time I found a double. 🤣 The company apologised and said that it was a rare occurrence. I have done some Buffalo puzzles, the quality was adequate but nothing remarkable.
