I recently played the Sega Genesis version, and it's actually pretty good. Better graphics and more intuitive controls. I really liked the art style, it's the reason I bought the original dune 2 game. The gameplay was really awkward, but had interesting, ahead of it's time features, like battle music and macro units.
Love to see the Northgard RTS design continuing to evolve and grow. That game was such a breath of fresh air, and it lends itself well to a fun push and pull style that is much less sweepy than classic RTS' tend to be.
My experience is that Northgard is more "sweepy" than many other RTS in multiplayer. There is a steady bulidup over the course of a game until a player commits to forming an army and pushing into enemy territory and that usually results in that player being wiped due to not being prepared, or a stalemate until one side is weak and gets wiped out. Coming back from losses seems to be unlikely even with very good players.

They really should’ve included the “Early Access” part to the beginning of that statement. Personally I bought it and plan on playing it when I get home but for a lot of people thinking this is a final product, yea they should’ve made them aware that it’s still Early Access lol

I'm old. I'm "emperor: the battle for dune" kind of old. This game is pure nostalgia for me. And even in early access state, I got what I needed. I hope they add more features amd game modes in the future. many thanks to devs from here.
I'm loving every time that you do a spotlight on new games. I just bought Terraformers and played the hell out of it and I've got my eye on this one too. I'm halfway through the 2nd Dune book. Re-read the first one last year. This looks like they've really drawn from the rich world of Dune and not just taken a glossy account from the movies. Very exciting.
Considering both developers of Humankind and Dune are French, and Humankind's being the most successful strategy developers in France makes them an obvious influence.

I like Endless Legend and it's their best game to date (also according to Steam reviews and sales numbers which are around 1.2 million copies sold), but it's a very flawed game design. And Humankind had an insane drop off of players after it's initial high in august 2021. It did not sell amazing numbers, regardless of the whole 'best selling game of august 2021 claim' you see floating on the internet. (Which was literally just a reference to a single day sales number of copies sold in the US in august 2021 in which it ranked 4th place, which basically means nothing). The game did not sell more than around 300.000-400.000 copies. World-wide. And one can make a very fair argument that the game isn't that great to begin with, whilst also pushing woke nonsense. I don't even like Civilization VI that much, but to put things into perspective that game sold like 7+ million copies. It's also funny how you think nationality makes something an obvious influence. It's very obvious Dune Spice Wars is just a reskinned version of Northgard, the previous game by the developer of Dune Spice Wars. It pretty much plays the same.
Between seeing this as a new release I didn't know about and old world releasing in may, this is a good time for strategy games. Loved the vid, cant wait for part 2

I don't quite sit through a 50+ minute of youtube video for a game play video, but this has been well worth it. As the gameplay mechanics is quite complicated and so many different avenues to take, I did learn a fair bit of new things and often overlooked information on those dialogue boxes. Cheers!
What I like about this game is you some times would want to mess with a stronger player trying to take out a weaker player using the different ops. It's not that safe to take out players so keeping a weaker one alive feels vary riskish. Where you both are not teamed but will help each other because losing a player out right could send the balance to a steam roll.

This feels like a game I'd watch potato play with the same consistency and interest that I watch civ 6. I'm so fucking glad this game is getting the positive impressions that it's getting. This video definitely sold the game for me.

Just pause the game to think strategy until you get good at strategy on the fly. I've never played this one, not sure if the game limits the camera pans when you pause. Remember that the AI doesn't have to think, it's doing many things at once.
The old dune games were fire. Very challenging for a young me, and pretty entertaining. Imagine a little 9yr old me trying to figure out why everytime i send a unit out to the enemy base a sandworm at them, and yet, the enemy could walk around like it was nothing lol
a friend of mine got to my home in yearly 90s and say: "I have a new game for us!!! is called C&C... Command & Conqueror or something like this... , i look straight to him and say "so what?" a he say "its like a clone of DUNE 2! i only remember to scream at him saying "why the hell you lost all that time with bullshit talking, PLEASE INSTALL THAT SH** FAST" the new kids can't imagine the impact of the first Dune games... they created a new genre of games!
To be honest you could argue that the house itself are generally honorable "good" guys, its paul and his descendants that caused a ruckus. and like someone else said when the harkkonnens are around you can lower the bar for good guy
Finally, a wonderful RTS that I have been looking for. Quite resource-demanding I would say. Hopefully a 1050 Ti would suffice. I have high hopes of this game when I play it.
Re:playing defensively and carefully with Atreides - I find that influence production is much slower than authority, so I'm always raiding villages and occasionally annex one when I have enough influence to do so. So I've been playing a very aggressive Atreides and it's going pretty well, I own about 1/2 of the map and I'm engaging the Smugglers on one flank. So, aggressive works pretty well too.
If you are still curious about the experimental ornithopter: It's special trait is, that it does not consume any resources. So techically it's a +2 power cells.

How? This game has nothing to do with good old Dune games. This is resident sleeper game that just wants to milk off Dune movie's success. There's no Ordos, no campaign with cutscenes, no story, no quads, trikes,combat tanks,siege tanks, devastators, deviators, sonic tanks... I don't see a thing that would make me nostalgic for the old titles it's entirely different generic hotchpotch.
Also for future refernce with spice silos. you don't need to build 1 in every spice field. They are an AOE building so you can save upkeep and slots in your important spice regions by placing them more strategically to affect multiple zones.
What are those little ships going back and forth at 10:04? I don't have those in my game, but the look cool. Have those been removed with a more recent update (just bought the game a few days ago) or are they from a building/tech?
you need to make trade/knowledge agreements with them for relations. The diplomacy path means you sacrifice authority and expansion to play nice and win that way.
Dude, I thought you did a gameplay video on the OLD dune game, that I played like 25 years ago (game from 1992)!!! Glad to see they made a new one, was about time. ;)
I’m guessing that the lore excuse for the existence of Ranged units in this game is that you can’t use shields on the sand without provoking an extremely aggressive response from the worms? Given to understand that the Duniverse, personal shields stop any fast-moving projectiles but have to let slower objects pass through or the wearer wouldn’t be able to breathe, making traditional firearms all but obsolete anywhere else. I wouldn’t expect anyone but the Fremen to be well-versed in the use of firearms in light of that unless it’s a common activity to hunt for food on other worlds. The Atreides’ military wouldn’t have been trained to use them back on Caladan if they only ever expected to go up against shielded enemies. End of the day, it’s a game, and it’s hard to do everything in melee.
I think the way to get the computer to like you is by giving them the resources with the green up arrow. This means that the commodity is valuable to them
I would like to see hypothetical groups as well, like being able to control the Traders guild, or the emperor, or the Bot's of "IX", but this does look really cool.
I don't think the spice silos bonus stacks cumulatively. It's either the zone has the bonus from at least one silo (in that zone or a neighboring zone) or no bonus, only. You can't have a zone getting 2x spice silos bonus. I think anyway.
Have you heard of Kenshi. Talking about standards, Kenshi is an 4x RTS, RPG, city builder and manager and Squad Combat. Basically LoFi wanted to make the game to end all video games. 862km² of map filled with content developed by 3 people and has about 500hrs of playability plus more content and replayability than Elden Rings. Kenshi 2 is under development and I just can't wait.

Northgard itself felt like it got inspiration from the settlers series
@@intuii felt like a mix of AOE and Settlers to me. This has more 4x in its blood. The closest I can think of is Sins of a Solar Empire.

The OG Dune game is well worth a playthrough...not the RTS one, but the management strategy one where you actually play as Paul.

I LOVED the Dune 2000 game. It was the whole reason i got into rts. Sure in todays standards its not great but it was so much fun
Have you heard of Kenshi. Talking about standards, Kenshi is an 4x RTS, RPG, city builder and manager and Squad Combat. Basically LoFi wanted to make the game to end all video games. 862km² of map filled with content developed by 3 people and has about 500hrs of playability plus more content and replayability than Elden Rings. Kenshi 2 is under development and I just can't wait.
i love the older rts games, theres just way too much going on in the new games.

If Authority is what enemies need to refuse deals with you, and having a treaty with them makes them lose authority, then isn't Atreides' passive bad?
