This guy did not even come close To getting the credit he deserves as an all around great artist. Way better than alot of the new top guys in country music
First concert I'd ever been to. He and Ken Mellons ( opening act his hit I'm just an old jukebox junkie 1 hit wonder) but Mark was the guy. Ken did great with his set but at that time Mark was one the big acts then. Great singer and songwriter👍
I believe he was competing Garth Brooks at the time. When he was on the garth brooks channel on Sirius, he mentions the same thing. That they were so busy trying to make it out there that people like Mark were kind of lost in his dust! He did say he thought Mark Chesnutt was one of the greatest singers that was appreciated enough!
My father loved Mark. My dad passed away 2 years ago. We took him to see Mark in 2017 in Yorktown, Tx. at his concert. Mark was coming down the stairs when he recognized my father since Mark had stayed at our ranch years ago. Mark thank you so much for saying hi to my dad. That meant a lot.
Perhaps the most underrated pure country singer of his generation. And one of the most of any generation. What an ear for songs and a voice for delivering them.
***** Nothing else to say, you nailed it. I met him yrs ago, it's a shame he didn't become one of Nashville's greatest, them holding him @ arms length because he liked to have a good time was Nashville's loss imo.
xShadowWolf44x Believe as much of this as you want but I couldn't make it up. I was in school at the University of KY and writing and doing demos for the publisher of "The Gambler" who was also the writer of "Brother Jukebox." Chesnutt was interested very interested in one of my songs but a new fellow I'd never heard of had it on hold. This new fellow, Tracy Lawrence, recorded the song but it didn't make it on the record. Such was my brush with songwriting success, almost by accident because I hadn't pursued it in a meaningful way. I did later pursue it but never came this close again. I got, you know, the Del Reeves cuts and the like and perhaps got things on hold (which can be meaningless) but nothing like that.
Seems like everyone who ventured to this track remembers a day when country was country and not pop. This was such a great era for country and I truly miss it. Such great TRUE artists with TRUE talent. Its a pity what Nashville has pumped out in the past 10 or 15 years....mostly garbage
It peaked in this era, there can only be so many great songs. If they still had as many great ones today which there is a few, it’d make this song less great
Mark's music, talent and style are in a class with Doug Stone and Keith Whitley - pure, soulful country that will never be overshadowed by today's "rock with a fiddle".
Couldn't agree more! I miss those days when I was a kid and these songs were on the radio ALL THE TIME.. Makes me mad these songs don't get played anymore.
This song still gives me goosebumps, that’s how good these old songs are. He is as pure as they come. I envy all the Good Texan people that got to be around this all the time.
Seen him at the Danville Pittsylvania County fair in VA and this man sounded still exactly the same as he did on the radio. Best concert ever❤ I could still hear him riding the swings I'll never forget that moment.
Top most under-rated country guys of all time. 1. Tracey Lawrence 2. Travis Tritt 3. Mark Chesnutt All either of em could be in which ever order. They all rule
You keep your so called "pop country" I'll be here listening to Mark Chesnutt. That little whining sound @ 1:34 is made by an instrument called a "fiddle" kids. This is called a "steel guitar" accompaniment through to 2:07. This is what country music is, and what Mark can do with his voice is called "holding a tune". This was before that "auto tune" thing. Long live real country music.
One of the best country songs ever. Chesnutt is still one of the best and has more talent in his pinky finger then the vast majority of these new country artists.
Always will be my fav of all country artists Mark has a voice unlike anything I have ever heard, I have been into his music since the early 90's and learned to match his tone... :-)
I will find so many things to do I want have time to think of HIM......I will think of something...LOVE this song and Mark Chesnutt you are and still are one of the best around!!
This is one of the best if not the best covers I've ever heard.. It's one thing to do a cover and it's a whole other thing when you can make it your own.. Everytime I hear it I still get cold chills from the emotion he puts in it.. 25+ plus years later it still holds up as one of the best songs ever recorded..
I'm not a big country fan but when I do listen Its to something like this! The older country is way better than than the pop country light shows that is out nowadays
I’ve read so many sad stories below. I just want everyone to know, that even though we will never meet, some guy in Arkansas is praying for all of you and your families. I pray that God touches you and relieves your pain.
This is quite possibly my favorite country song of the 1990s. And considering how many absolute gems that decade produced, that is the highest praise I could offer. Early 1990s country was just incredible!
I was in the green room at the oil palace in Tyler TX his bus had burned up on the way to the show earlier that week. Mark played this song and ask " What do ya think " I said that's one of my favorite Hank Jr songs. His jaw dropped and said Not many people know that. This quickly became my favorite version. Man did we have fun back in those days. Mark like to have fun. I got to hang out with him in those early days I was competing in the rodeo and he was booked at them or at a club in the same town. He is a cool dude.
He's one of the most underrated singers there is. Not too many singers could hang with Mark Chesnut in the 90s. Bad ass!!
Love the man great vocalist
I agree. I was in highschool when he released this song. Great era for country music.
I agree 100%
Absolutely 💯
no pulse checking here hes hottttt
This guy did not even come close To getting the credit he deserves as an all around great artist. Way better than alot of the new top guys in country music
Totally agree! One of the best voices in country music... he is amazing! X
👍
First concert I'd ever been to. He and Ken Mellons ( opening act his hit I'm just an old jukebox junkie 1 hit wonder) but Mark was the guy. Ken did great with his set but at that time Mark was one the big acts then. Great singer and songwriter👍

I totally agree
He was one of the best! Didn’t get the credit he deserved
I'll amen to that 🎉
I'm praying for his recovery.
If you don’t feel something, when you hear Mark sing this song, you better check your pulse!
amen
Get half drunk and listen to hank Jr sing it,, you'll feel it better lol
Not really Marks songs are a lot more meaningful and true to country music than Hank Jr….Hank use to be country now he’s just an overrated mouth piece
So true ❤
Heck yeah. Love his music and this song
Back when country was still country!!!
It's still out there!
Damn straight!!! ❤
@@aledojustajonesnot like this 😢
Mark chesnutt, Tracy Lawrence, George Strait, Alan Jackson are all timeless kings of country
Keith Whitley and Clint Black too 🇺🇲
Don't forget Clint Black
My father loved Mark. My dad passed away 2 years ago. We took him to see Mark in 2017 in Yorktown, Tx. at his concert. Mark was coming down the stairs when he recognized my father since Mark had stayed at our ranch years ago. Mark thank you so much for saying hi to my dad. That meant a lot.
That's awesome
Wonderful. God bless your father
So awesome 👌
❤
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It just doesn't get any better than this. 2022 and still a great song.
Good music sticks around
ALL of His Songs are awesome 👍😎
yep!
i wish these new guys would listen to this & learn, that is country
Now 2023
His songs help me get through tough times. Loosing the love of my life after 22 years. Thank u Mark.
Still listening today. 03/01/2024 his songs hit hard! Never got enough recognition 😔😊
Absolute mind blowing country! Touches the soul.
The guitar. The piano and his voice. Lifts you above the clouds.
for sure
Love everything about this song! Listening to it everyday. Thank you so much for authentic country music in a world of forgotten treasures! ❤
I love this song as much as I did when it first came out. 😢
Perhaps the most underrated pure country singer of his generation. And one of the most of any generation. What an ear for songs and a voice for delivering them.
I couldn't agree more, Carolvs... he is superb!
100% man.
***** Nothing else to say, you nailed it. I met him yrs ago, it's a shame he didn't become one of Nashville's greatest, them holding him @ arms length because he liked to have a good time was Nashville's loss imo.

xShadowWolf44x Anyway, thanks for your response.
The Beaumont Boy! Doesn't get much better than this right here, folks.
GOD bless Texas !
Amen

You got that Right
I'll try to drank enough to drown the hurt! One of the best lines in a country song ever!
Yes yes…..glad you mentioned it. Bourbon does work but only for few hours.
Seems like everyone who ventured to this track remembers a day when country was country and not pop. This was such a great era for country and I truly miss it. Such great TRUE artists with TRUE talent. Its a pity what Nashville has pumped out in the past 10 or 15 years....mostly garbage
I ventured here
It peaked in this era, there can only be so many great songs. If they still had as many great ones today which there is a few, it’d make this song less great
And people b*tched just as much then that these weren't Waylon and Willie. And Kris. Music changes. And it comes back around..and around..and around
This country is in a world of hurt and unfortunately I dont think we will ever recover from it
Shiits alllllllllll 🗑
Mark's music, talent and style are in a class with Doug Stone and Keith Whitley - pure, soulful country that will never be overshadowed by today's "rock with a fiddle".
Couldn't agree more! I miss those days when I was a kid and these songs were on the radio ALL THE TIME.. Makes me mad these songs don't get played anymore.
Mark Chesnutt, Clint Black, and Sammy Kershaw ... why do we need anymore? They carried Country Music in the 80's and 90's.
Forgot George Straight, Randy Travis, and Dwight Yoakam🤠
Chesnutt..... wayyyyyyyy UNDER-ratedddddd...
mother time
thanks
💯 agree
This song gives me chills every time I hear it! Bring back 90s country 💞
You said a Mouth Full and Bring Back the Good Music.
Still loving this song in 2024❤
Hadn't heard this song in awhile, I definitely agree with you. 90s country is where it's at
11-2024
I love this type of country!
Check out Hank Williams Jr version, my favorite
That’s because it’s the best.
They don't make music like this anymore
This song still gives me goosebumps, that’s how good these old songs are. He is as pure as they come. I envy all the Good Texan people that got to be around this all the time.
This isn't a "type of country" this is country.
I always liked the original Hank Jr. version too, Mark did an excellent cover on this one in my humble opinion.
Most under rated country singer of all times he is truly one of the best of all times
One the best
❣❣❣❣
Yeah he don't get the credit he deserves,Mark Chestnut has ALOT of good songs out and is a great musician
Don't stop singing, Mark, we need more country music like yours. Your great.
Seen him at the Danville Pittsylvania County fair in VA and this man sounded still exactly the same as he did on the radio. Best concert ever❤ I could still hear him riding the swings I'll never forget that moment.
Sending all good vibes. 22 years since he left.
Back when music still let the guitar play. Lyrics and guitar both hit the soul. Respect to the drummers as well, just a beautiful era in music.
Thank you Mark for making great country music and always keeping it country! One of the greatest country singers to ever grace the stage!
This man was so great ❣️ Should have got more recognition. 🧡
Hands down the best version. Mark had a haunting, hurting voice. He just does it better. Great song, one of my all time favorites.
Well said! Love the bravado in his voice, hauntingly beautiful.
The original by Hank Jr. Is the best.
The original Hank Jr version is the best, check it out
My favorite song of all time
Bout like "the race is on" Sawyer Brown just did it better. It happens, infrequently.
Top most under-rated country guys of all time.
1. Tracey Lawrence
2. Travis Tritt
3. Mark Chesnutt
All either of em could be in which ever order. They all rule
Forgot Chris LeDoux!
Earl Thomas Conley too..

Yes...
PREACH!!!
When you're right, you're right.
Get well soon Mark Chestnut prayers coming your way Cowboy 💙
One of the greatest songs ever written and performed ! 30 years now and still rings true for me !
One of the best country songs ever. Chesnutt is still one of the best and has more talent in his pinky finger then the vast majority of these new country artists.
All these 'instant popcorn' clowns hardly rate the definition of artist,.. but yeah I understand and totally agree with your statement!
That's absolutely correct!
Gloria Mary Haywood I agree its always better in a cast iron skillet over the new way.
Earl Tomas Connelly also recorded this song, but I can't figure out which one I like better.
I agree love him
Just heard it on the radio for the first time...another classic from a legendary singer..way to go Mark!
Great song! Great voice! Gives me goose bumps!
Jesus Christ Mark......they way this song makes me feel.....that voice....
One of the greatest country music singers in the 90s. And honestly, he can help saying 95% of today’s country singers
Wow! Amazing country music!!!! Takes me back!!!!!! Love you, Mark!!!!! Keep on singing’!
A #1 hit for Mark back in 1992, only the 2nd #1 hit of his career and the 2nd single release from his album "Longnecks And Short Stories."
Mark Chesnutt's voice is one of a kind, like Joe Diffie. Both gone too soon! This was real country music
Mark Chestnut is still alive.
One of the best songs ever written!
Mark chestnut is the best country singer ever. My hero
Happy 60th Birthday Mark Chesnutt!
Arguably his best song. He was underrated but those of us who found him have found a jewel indeed
Amen.
God I miss the 90's. The greatest era of music ever.
greatest era of country music! IMHO
Sorry my friend but the 80s country scene it was much better from the 90s
86-94 was my fave for country. Whitley, highway 101, chesnutt, man I miss country music.
This new country music now day's isn't country music. It's not like the music I was bought up with like the 70's 80's then the earlier 90's..
Absolutely right
Always will be my fav of all country artists Mark has a voice unlike anything I have ever heard, I have been into his music since the early 90's and learned to match his tone... :-)
Mark Chesnutt is a legend!

I will find so many things to do I want have time to think of HIM......I will think of something...LOVE this song and Mark Chesnutt you are and still are one of the best around!!
The music and his voice are beyond words
One word describes this song: PERFECTION!
Mark is the one that can carry traditional country music forward! As for as I am concerned he can fill those shoes!!
Great song!

I'm sure that Hank Jr. is proud of Mark's rendition. What a great song.
This is my favorite Mark Chestnut song. That tele solo at end gets me every time
Real Country!
Mark is an awesome guy.
Hung out with him back in the day, when I was a young man.
He is the “Real deal”
This is one of the best if not the best covers I've ever heard..
It's one thing to do a cover and it's a whole other thing when you can make it your own..
Everytime I hear it I still get cold chills from the emotion he puts in it..
25+ plus years later it still holds up as one of the best songs ever recorded..
Mark Chestnut...... Enough said
I saw Mark in concert in 1992. One of the best concerts ever.
Nothing like a new love to make you forget an old love.
Mark Chestnut is one of greatest country singer in my opinion, love all of his music, I was 21 years old when he come out,I'm 54 now.
This is the greatest damn song ever. If you can’t get over the one you love. I’ve restarted it about 15 times now.
I'm not a big country fan but when I do listen Its to something like this! The older country is way better than than the pop country light shows that is out nowadays
Instrumental ending 👌 Bet he wouldn’t sell out and that’s why his popularity suddenly ended.
Mark is still the BEST. Pure COUNTRY
I’ve read so many sad stories below. I just want everyone to know, that even though we will never meet, some guy in Arkansas is praying for all of you and your families. I pray that God touches you and relieves your pain.
One of the best pure country songs ever... This is what country music should be...

This song is from the early 70’s
@@PrevailingFreedom But Mark's version is 100X better.
I just heard this song on my car radio, and wow, the memories came flooding back. This was when country music was actually country.

Dec 2023 and this song still runs through my head randomly. Thank goodness for RUclips ❤️
I was in the green room at the oil palace in Tyler TX his bus had burned up on the way to the show earlier that week. But the grand old port will put Kacey Musgraves and some of them dip shits in isn’t even country music
I don't get much time to listen to mark but when I do so do my neighbors
One of the best out of the 1990's!

I CANT GET ENOUGH OF THIS SONG
I’m 55 now. But I can listen too this and close my eyes, and I’m right back in a crowded smoky honky tonk.
