  • Parades and flypasts were just some of the events that took place across the UK on Saturday as part of Armed Forces Day celebrations to thank the military community for their service.
The national event was held in Falmouth, Cornwall, where the Duke of Gloucester and around 100,000 people gathered to mark the occasion.
More than 1,000 military personnel, veterans and cadets paraded through the town, while there were also spectacular air displays, parachute jumps and more throughout the day.
You can watch the highlights of Armed Forces Day in Falmouth, including a spectacular display from the Red Arrows, in this video.

It was absolutely great out in Falmouth today. All of the branches of the armed forces were out in force with so many regiments represented here in numbers I don’t think I’ve ever seen before in person. Glad I was able to be here for the occasion. Absolute perfect day for it. Won’t ever forget it.

@@user-mr4uo5mw9nFunny then how it's always those "toy soldiers" who are the first to be wanted - and respond - when other countries are in trouble??!!! Most of our allies have nothing but praise for the British Armed Forces; and it's not always about the numbers - quality of training and discipline ensures our Forces personnel stay superior.

Love Navy. Love Coldstream Guards as my Dad was a member during WW2 He joined in thirties and was injured in France, came home by ship on a stretcher. Two Uncles on my Mams side of family were at Dunkirk. Her father, Frederick Warren Swan was in Merchant navy. The ship he was on eas torpedoed and ships company were taken to La Harve in France, marched through Framce, into Germany and remained there for 5 years as POW. He never spoke of the treatment of the POW's by the Germans. He was interviewed in very early 60s by local newspaper and gave a very limited amount of information regarding the terrible conditions the men of the Merchant Navy suffered during their time in the Camps.
Thank you to all those who served throughout our U K. history. We will always remember them. We will never forget, ever

Lucky Falmouth. Here in Hemel Hempstead we had a pathetic display of stalls in the local park manned by a few charming young cadets. If it had been organised properly we should have had a military band at least playing & even a recruitment centre.

Wonderful video Forces TV. However, is it usual practise to demote senior officers by 2 ranks? If I were you I’d send a letter of apology to the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff: General Jenkins for referring to him as a Major General.

As with most things, if you are interested in something then you know where and when events are taking place. This particular Day is now in it's 15th year! Falmouth, in Cornwall, was selected as the National Event host because 1 in 5 people in Cornwall have a personal or current family connection to the Armed Forces, and after a competitive bidding process - but events were also held across the Country. It's also the culmination of a week of events so I don't know how you knew nothing about it?

Nonsense - you can't compare apples with pears. One day for Armed Forces Day is quite sufficient as we should all prefer our armed forces to be preparing for war and carrying out peacetime duties as required (and I don't include such things as the RAF's eleven display teams!).
