I can't wait for this day. The horses are stunning. It will bring in millions from visitors. And there aren't many monarchs left on this planet. Very proud of ours.
Thank you for the good look at what it takes to maintain these wonderful animals. So much is taken for granted -- good to see the inside story of these troops and their mounts.
They go in the summer usually for 6 weeks training. During this time they go to Norfolk and take the horses to the seashore for 3 days. Things must be muddled because of the Coronation.
Absolute wonderful to see. Thank you for sharing this with us. Horses inside must feel a little bit down. I bet having to return to Knightsbridge after two months in the countryside and having to return to training. But I’m guessing some of them are used to it by now, if it isn’t their first time. Must be quite a hassle but also rather enjoyable getting the horses back to standard again. Good to see the farriers as well. Great to see these skills continuing in big thanks to the army. Both in the Household Cavalry and Kings Troop. Everyone really does have their work cut out for this year in the coronation. Just like with our beloved Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, this will be a moment to remember forever.
I absolutely love this. Being into horses since I was eight, and currently owning two horses for example - it didn't occur to me that there might be HCAV material on YT until recently. It's such a joy to find content like this!
In living memory, sir?? I certainly remember the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, which I watched on a very small TV in our apartment in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Charles has waited a very long time to be crowned, but not THAT long! 😉🇬🇧🇺🇸
They go to the countryside for six weeks in the summer for training and take the horses to Hokeham Beach in Norfolk for three days. I think things are different this year because of the Coronation.
The 2 cavalry regiments form a light armoured reconnaissance regiment abd crew things like Scimitar tanks. These are active military who can be deployed or assigned as needed in trouble zones. The Horse Guards facility is a duty station and all are regular forces. Not sure how the assignments are made but these are not toy soldiers. Also not sure about the ones in ceremonial uniform regarding armament but they have real sabres on big powerful horses plus they have heavily armed Metro police right there and more that can respond very quickly. Also, London has a lot of CCTV. The Guards were attacked by the IRA in 1982 in 2 bombings in one morning. A total of 7 horses and 11 people were killed. Personally, I would like to see more crowd control at this site.
@@Sharon-bo2se Sharon's pretty correct. The soldiers rotate through both operational duties and ceremonial. Quite right to point out they are not toy soldiers. Some of the most decorated soldiers in the Army have served in this regiment. Cheers!
It goes back to the fact the uniform is both designed for purpose AND for looking smart on parade. The sword must be secured to the soldier properly and be held in the right place while he/she goes about their business while riding. The way to do this is to fasten it around the soldier's waist as if it were a belt. Hope this helps.
Probably less than a couple of tanks would. Those lads looking after and riding the horses spend their time in armoured recon vehicles when not on ceremonial duty though I suppose you would prefer they spend the time when not on active [as in battlefield] duty lounging around doing nothing.
Well it’s a tourist attraction and essentially pays for itself in tax and more. So if you got rid of it in theory it would have a negative effect on budget for the army.

Really enjoyed this insight into the off season
Beautiful horses! Can’t wait to see the guards mounted of their steeds and the coronation ceremony!
You all do such a marvellous job working on them to bring them up to standard. Thankyou for showing this.
What a great video to watch I found it really interesting to know where the horses spend some R&R

It's fun to see the contrast between the fat and furry horses on winter break and them slicked up for guard duty.
A question. Why does the sword belt go under the tunic when wearing the breast plate?

2:35 Is that the horses name? Kensington? Fancy! 🙂
Guy at 1:30 not wearing a rankslide?
Troopers don't wear rank slides in the Household Cavalry. It's a unit-specific custom.
Considering the ceremonial role of the Household Cavalry, I bet the troopers do less marching and more horse riding!
Is that a t5 or t4 cavalry 😅
How much does this cost the English people………….
Per person very little, but it makes a lot of revenue. And is great for the economy.
