@@sophiathe380sl this intro vid was a few months ago, i only have 2 other videos at the moment, editing one now. But most of the work is done and filmed, i just have to take the time to go through all the footage and edit it all!
@@sophiathe380sl i have it filmed just need to edit. It is easy with the dash out. I think it is doable with the dash in the car but would make it 100x more difficult as you have to drill out the rivet holding the actuator on
Car was definitely abused and had no regular maintenance. I have an ‘85 SL I bought brand new and still have it with 180k on the clock. Car has always been cared for and had regular maintenance and I don’t have any of those issues at all. Car must have had many owners who just neglected it. And btw, no third brake light on an ‘85 SL. Glad you are a do it yourself kinda guy as the list you have is over 10k easily! Good luck. Glad you saved the car.
When I purchased my 85 SL it was Discounted. The person who special ordered 904 Midnight Blue changed his mind and went with Nautical Blue and the Dealer let me have it at the Price he owed with his Deposit. Ironically everyone that compliments the mint condition car mentions the beauty of the Dark Blue 904 color.
I paid more than I should have for my 1980 450 SL too. The exterior was in fairly good shape but once I did a deep dive mechanically my “To Do” list began to grow. Unfortunately for me I tend to over maintain my cars. My 450 SL has been no different. I have loved restoring her and bringing her up to standard but she has been a “High Maintenance Mistress$$$”😂. I’m glad you’ve decided to RUclips your efforts. Can’t wait to see how your project unfolds. The very best of luck to you😊.
I have so much filmed and have phase 1 completed! Just need to edit everything, i plan on doing an update soon. So far 3500$ worth of parts in the car!
Not as bad as you think, put some AT-205 reseal in with your Eight quarts of fresh oil and make sure to use new O- ring on oil filter housing and copper crush washer on bottom of bolt. Most likely the culprit for oil leak at filter housing when a amateur changes oil the fine details are often overlooked. just get those subframe mounts replaced before driving those are the worst ones I have ever seen !
@@FLManGarage My Power steering Hose sprung a leak on top fitting of pump today on my R 107.45 I had to put rubber sleeve around old hose and a new clamp and it that did the trick.
Wow! This is a mix-n-match car. You have pieces of many different R107 versions there. These cars are incredibly expensive to restore. I’ve been working on mine for years and have yet to drive it more than a couple of hundred miles. Knowing what I know now I would not go down the rabbit hole you are about to embark. Sell it before you get too deep into it.
Too late! At the point of no return 😁 thankfully all of the mechanical stuff is now sorted and just finishing up some interior bits now and it will be road worthy again
Don't Change the Color. It's the kiss of death on value to do a color change on an SL, even an older one. If you do the restoration properly she will gain in value, but changing the color will hurt your efforts.
Happy to see someone else going through the same things!!
Yes! I have used many of your videos as reference so thank you for that. Many more videos coming as I near the end for this project
@@FLManGarage That’s awesome.. End? I thought you were just beginning. I need to watch a couple more videos to catch up.

How often do you take it in for maintenance?

It's a lot of work. Good luck
it is a work of love! but yes it was a lot!
This is gold! The plan you have for restoring this beaut will be nice to watch! When is the ETA for Part 2, 3?

G'day it's a project but it can all be fixed plus there is no major rot in it.

I bought mine same condition but no rust, $1700.00
Thats probably what this one was worth at the time of purchase!

Yes I agree! The color has grown on us, so I think we will likely keep the green
and when its all fixed up it will be worth $7k lol
Lol this is sad because its so true!
Sell it for $5500 and get another one - dash cover = Loser
