Thanks very much to share your restoration. You have many skills and it's interesting to see your works. I guess that your wife will be pleased to drive such a classic car that has plenty of qualities. I have been the owner of a Mercedes Pagoda 230 then 280SL. Sold to buy other projects... The Roadster W107 is an excellent car and prices are still interesting for such a luxurious convertible. I am European (French) and I dream to come with my GF in the USA to buy a 560SL from L.A to Florida. Then to bring home the car by container and make some little restoration on the car in my workshop. It gave me an idea of the amount of works that is needed !

I like that there isn't any talking, or music. Could use a little more text/comments about what is being done and why. I would have liked to know the overall time and cost as well as why the parts car. You're very talented and I look forward to seeing what you do next with your channel!

Total investment including cost of vehicle ($3500) is right around $15,000. Which means i put roughly $12,000 of parts into the car, which sounds ridiculous! I found a parts car for $200 but i really only used that metal patch from it and a few small knobs and what nots Thank you for your constructive criticism! I have more coming in the future and the videos will only get better from here on! 👍🏻
Nicely done. Not a perfect restoration, but certainly a more than presentable driver on a budget. And certainly nice enough for cruise ins or car shows. My wife AND her sister both want one of those cars. (I have to admit, I kind of like it myself) Thankfully, those cars in decent condition are a little out of my budget for now. So I'll just enjoy yours vicariously. Again, great job!

We have 3 SL rotting away in our back yard and they are in prestige condition. Over the years my pops has parted out so many SLs. My pops has all the parts you can think of. Let me know if you need anything!
Absolutely wonderful job. Surprised how good the dash came out I know not as good as factory but next best thing. Only thing I don't like is that steering wheel. Super tacky

That is true!! And no we havent fixed the 3rd brake light , she has been bugging me about it though 😄. After some research, this year never had a 3rd brake light, so we want to delete it, which would mean the trunk needs to be repainted, if we do that, we mineswell repaint a few other spots on the car as well, so its a slippery slope!!
Great job on the mechanical, the interior finish was not up to par. It would have been worth to spend a couple of bucks and have the seats redone properly. But then again, the car is for the wife so who cares? 🤣
The original plan was to get the interior professionally re-done. My budget for fixing the car was 5-8k. After I realized how much mechanical work the car needed, i was quickly at nearly 12k in parts. I got 3 quotes for re doing the interior and dash. Ranging from 3k-5k, quite a bit more than a few bucks 😄 also, they were all booked out 3+ months I couldn’t afford it at the time and still cant, the interior will be professionally re done at some point, but at least I was able to get it back on the road and looking slightly better! @@FLManGarage One thing I see people do on seat covers, is to heat them (carefully) with a heatgun and as they cool of they shrink and better adhere to the substructure. The upolstery dude at Retropower was saying that. The guy is next level. If I had to guess, he probably worked at Aston Martin or McLaren.
You put so much time, work and efforts but sometimes you stop half way. Why you didnt replace seat cushions once you spend hours on dismantling? Why you did cheap paint job on wheels instead of remove tires, sandblast and powder coat to last forever? Same with body work! You did so much patches and painted partially only. Believe me, this will not stop the rust on other areas you omitted. To conclude, I have mixed feelings seing this partiall job. Lot of work and good craftsmanship, but incomplete rebuild
Thank you for your comment! This was my first project and i was learning a lot along the way, i was way over budget already, so a lot of the answers to your questions are simply cost. Powder coating the wheels would have been $500, vs $50 in spray paint and it was something i could do myself. What body work are you referring to? The rusted floor pans? If so, i removed all the rust and painted the whole floor and the bottom, also the car is garage kept and not driven in the rain, so i dont anticipate the rust coming back to cause a problem. Seat cushions for this car are hard to find and expensive. Essentially, i was not set out to build a show car or do a full restoration, i would like to do a project like that in the future, but i definitely did not have the funds to do so. My goal was to make the car safe for my wife to drive around town and to make it look better on a budget with the tools and knowledge i had, while its not perfect by any means, i think i have achieved that goal With that being said, it is still a work in progress and it will only get better as the years go on! I have same Benz SL. Same year and model. Wish I knew someone this talented who could work on my 380. It’s not nearly as rusty, but still….
It is so hard to find someone who works on these cars, they are much different than other classics!!

Hopefully i dont have to do more upholstery in the future! But if i do i will use that tip!
