Did Loni really have to throw in Amanda’s qualifications at the end? It felt dismissive of the other ladies’ opinions because they don’t have a masters in African American studies. I actually agree with you, Loni's final comment was unwarranted and very dismissive to other people's opinions. You don't need to have a Masters in African American studies to understand the culture of African Americans, just like you don't need a medical degree to understand that the pain you feel in your head might be caused by a headache.
Yea you don't need a masters in African American studies to be able to speak on issues within the African American community. This is the first time I completely disagree with Amanda. Amanda has passionately said that R Kelly is guilty (which I also believe), but she needs to be just as passionate and call out Jussie Smollet for his lies. Ain't nobody going to Subway at 3am and see someone with bleach in their hands and a rope just waiting for a famous person to walk by to call out their names and beat them up. Jussie wasn't that famous anyway. Now that we can't stop talking about him, he's getting the attention he wanted and hopefully it gets the consequence he didn't want for his actions.
The issue with this is that both Jeannie and Amanda are making valid points. The difference between the two of them is that Jeannie acknowledges the points that Amanda is making and is saying “yes, that’s true but this is also true.” Amanda on the other hand is just trying to dismiss Jeannie points, instead of acknowledging that Jeannie’s points are just as valid as hers. And I love Amanda and all that she stands for, so I’m not trying to bash her. I’m just pointing out that their conversations are always going to go this way if she doesn’t try to understand what the other person is saying.

Honestly, the show I once loved has now become difficult to watch. It just makes me uncomfortable, it's supposed to be about women empowerment and respectfully discussing everyday issues. But now it seems everyone is just talking and nobody is listening. Seeing Tam and A sitting there silent with their heads down, makes me wonder if they are now afraid to voice their opinion. I applaud Jeannie for staying true to herself. But the energy of the show has definitely shifted. The body language and facial expressions speak louder than what they are actually saying.
Having one conversation like this every episode is great. I don’t wanna hear about the bubblegum topics about “what would you do if your husband’s mother’s cousin said your food sucks?”. The show started getting boring. Now I’m on the edge on my seat hearing what these ladies really think about the important issues.

I think her opinion was noted and recognized. Everyone seems passionate about the topic including an equal approach to handling the issue (i.e. proving first whether guilty or not, then finding a punishment that fits everyone, no matter race).

I used to really enjoy The Real’s conversations about race and inequality but I cannot stand them lately. There is no equal balance at the table anymore and it’s a shame. Amanda has passionately said that R Kelly is guilty (which I also believe), but she needs to be just as passionate and call out Jussie Smollet for his lies. The issue with this is that both Jeannie and Amanda are making valid points. The difference between the two of them is that Jeannie acknowledges the points that Amanda is making and is saying “yes, that’s true but this is also true.” Amanda on the other hand is just trying to dismiss Jeannie points, instead of acknowledging that Jeannie’s points are just as valid as hers. And I love Amanda and all that she stands for, so I’m not trying to bash her. I’m just pointing out that their conversations are always going to go this way if she doesn’t try to understand what the other person is saying.

Honestly, the show I once loved has now become difficult to watch. It just makes me uncomfortable, it's supposed to be about women empowerment and respectfully discussing everyday issues. But now it seems everyone is just talking and nobody is listening. Seeing Tam and A sitting there silent with their heads down, makes me wonder if they are now afraid to voice their opinion. I applaud Jeannie for staying true to herself. But the energy of the show has definitely shifted. The body language and facial expressions speak louder than what they are actually saying.
