I wanted to show my husband (who's not British and has never seen a milk float) what one looks like and the first video was of the milkman delivering milk in Thornbury, where I come from. This was so nostalgic!
I remember as a young kid in the 90's hearing the distinct sound of the milk float stopping and passing by the neighborhood I lived in the early hours of the morning. Nostalgic times
Thanks for posting this. It brought very happy memories flooding back. I used to help deliver milk when I was kid in the 1970s. If no one was about I used to drive the milk float, an old W&E three wheeler, from Burscough to Skem whilst the milkman drank his tea, read a newspaper, rolled cigarettes and ate marmalade sandwiches! Happy days. God bless.
What a wonderful video ... takes me back to when i was a milklad with express dairies in the early 80s, i remember when we was at war with our closest rivals the co_op dairies on the wirral...lol
Watching this video, especially with some of the comments made in it, sounds like we're coming full circle with electric delivery vehicles coming back! If I had the time, knowledge and money, I would love to take a milk float and modify it with modern parts/features (lighter/improved batteries, brushless/AC motors and regenerative braking [assuming it isn't already there] would improve their performance), maybe one day! I wouldn't really have a use for it though so there's that 🤔
I miss the bottle milk delivering, the bird stealing the milk. Nowadays you have to to those organic Mama grocery store and you find milk bottle. They get spoiled very quick, and tastes so good this organic milk. I have to boil the milk, I have to remove the excess of the fat before I drink, it's too strong for me. But I would use the fat to make heavy cream for chantilling.
Didn't they end up doing that? Milk and More drop off supplies, though arguably they got into it pretty late to compete. Nowadays, you have the likes of Getir delivering small supplies on electric motorbikes, and even bigger shops who have been doing deliveries for some time are getting electric vehicles. They should all pay homage to the original milk float!
My dad lived in the countryside and he remembers a grocery van delivering fruit and veg, bread and tins. It stopped at the end of the street once a week for a cpl of hours . That was electric too. Kids today think they're so green, it was another world in our day
I never knew there were so many electric delivery vans around as well as milk floats. Just imagine if they had continued to be developed from early on, they'd have EV cars and commercials almost perfect by now.
Elisabeth Milk floats love so much bring back memories in 80s on my Coop Milk round, I say this The Milkman will never disappear. 🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛🥛 Milk 😋😋😋😋😋 try some 🇬🇧🇬🇧
I remember taking one of these as a kid was fin and games at time until I got cot grounded for a month only moved it 50_70 mtrs neighbour grassed sad times
Delivery by battery powered vehicle. Recycled/rewashed glass bottles. Goods delivered to front door. Forgotten, or not familiar to many people but nevertheless already features of distant past.
I worked for W&E in the 1980s as a rep. for the South-West, living in West Somerset and going to W%E each Friday to discuss sales and plan the following week's work. etc. From 1970-74- I was an electric vehicle fitter for HD. and served my apprenticeship on W&E vehicles.
Times are more differently now with young adults and teens with high testosterone pilling up in their blood. Those days will come back as more and more generation will see it’s a good idea. Hard work always pays rather sitting in front that pc.

God this brings back memories of when I was 15 and delivered the milk on weekends

Mrs Teague likes it on her front door rather than her back door 🤣😂🤣😂
Back door action for me.😊
That sounds like something you would hear from Pat Mustard
16:44 Great to see Paul Whitehouse doing his Geordie impression here. ;)
MRS TEAGUE LIKES IT ON HER FRONT DOOR RATHER THAN HER BACK DOOR SOUNDS LIKE A SKETCH FOM THE BENNY HILL SHOW
Lol
I'm told they often did.... funny.
Better than having it up her back passage!
Many women like it in their back door.
Milk float 😅 my childhood fave vehicle
Me and my wife had a milkman around 1998 . Milk orange juice eggs bread potatoes biscuits milk shakes 😂 . Miss them days tho
Great doc, odd choice of music, but fabulous film editing - a masterclass.
I remember getting a lift home on a milk float and a free pint of milk after a night out.
Sad I missed them 😢

Straight off the bat. The jokes write themselves
I remember working out of W&E Standards, Rangemsters, Spacemasrers and twin rear wheeled Majors
Reminds me of my paper round. Up at 5:30 and £2.10 a week!
Oh
My you borough back a memory
This idea should have been expanded on, with the delivery of butter, bread, meat, fish and frozen food.
Didn't they end up doing that? Milk and More drop off supplies, though arguably they got into it pretty late to compete.

Does anyone know the name of the movie about the milkman that they used scenes from in this documentary?
"The Early Bird" starring british comic Norman Wisdom.
@@roryhand6650 cool. Thank you 😊
I was a milky for 43 years .Alas thieving and supermarket s and I had to give up.
We need more back door action.
An old electric car motor sounds like an air raid siren when it accelerates or slows down
Miss them
I remember taking one of these as a kid was fin and games at time until I got cot grounded for a month only moved it 50_70 mtrs neighbour grassed sad times
The small business should be protected. The giant business should sell other stuffs instead of stealing the small business.
Best days of your life 👍

16:23 what a beautiful, handsome face this man has.
This is the future of EV's.
Nice. I'm looking to buy a reconditioned float for the gardening and landscaping business I run in Wood Green
Milk and more knocking at the door
I believe that an electric milk float is not completely quiet because of the sound the electric motor makes when it accelerates or slows down
Why have I just watched that?!
United Kingdom Northern ireland Belfast Milk Truck 1965 🇬🇧 Playmobil
Wow.. we've come such a long way with technology..weve now got battery cars, which are also sh1te 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Tesla just copied the EV from milkman😀
We need less Tesla's and more Wales and Edwards milk floats!
Was This In The Early 2000s Or 1990s?
There a some cheap electric vans from Tata and Mahindra that can do the job.
But then we had the Milk Marketing Board. What have we got now?
Ahead of its time .
Restomod with a Tesla Plaid drivetrain ! HAHAHAHA!!!
This must be what started tesla
