Seriously, I'm not joking, This was the clearest presentation addressing aperture, background blur etc I have ever seen. Never have i "got it" so quickly. Thanks so much!
+JamilaMillie Yea, I think the secret here is that he is not trying to impress anyone, just teaching..it's not about "him" it's about the subject. Mr. Greenwood is very good at what he does. (no I don't know the man, I'm from the States!)
Very Useful thanks and im from Afghanistan here we dont have a professional photography institute thats why im using RUclips videos to learn photography in a good way , thank for your help, Highly appreciated.
this is awesome info! I am new to photography and i've watched a lot of tutorials but this is by far the best explanation on how to blurry the background in the photos! Thanks so much!
This is #2 in my series of short, sharp youtube lessons on some photography fundamentals. This clip looks at how to create that lovely blurred background in portrait shots. It’s really aimed at DSLR users, although those viewers with point-and-shoots (especially those who know how to twiddle the manual controls) should get something out of it too.
This is the best video about this topic I've seen. All other just explained about aperture only. but know I realize that there are other factors into account. I was wondering why I had picture with big aperture and not blurred background. Now I know. thank you so much!
Really appreciated this video! Thank you, very much for the help! For some reason I am unable to “like” the video, however I was able to “like” some of the others comments. Thanks, again!
Thankyou! Purchased a DSLR recently and albeit have auto switched off, have been guessing a lot as I go along. It's great to know the reasoning behind these techniques :)
For me this is best channel for learning for beginner..but please , make more videos and also more often :Dmore tips and content..because only this channel which is give me detail and clear information about photograph.thanks !
Easiest way to make blur: Zoom in as much as you can and stay as close as you can to the object where you can still focus and take the shot! It will be awesome but narrow
im from india nd this video really helped me a lot as i hv just started with photography with my dslr d3200 . thnx a lot nd kkeep doing the good workk nd posting nw videos for beginners nd intermidiete level
Thanks for the vid. Much of it I already knew, but it's a good refresher. I'm also interested in lighting techniques for daytime photography of models.
Basic, but explains how to blur the pix.. Nice to see you mention the 4 elements. and show examples. Unlike the usual advice "get 1.1 f stop lens !!!" .as though that's all there is to blurring. thanks
thanks so much!! even with me trying to make the conversion with the metric system this was the best delivery for this topic that I've seen. you found a way to help this "click" with me. haha. thanks!
awesome!! Tom, please suggest a good lens for me, I am a beginner so 18-55 is good to get good pics with blurred background?? ur quick response is much appreciated
Good afternoon Mr Greenwood, I love your tutorial. I am getting my camera, in the next couple and is very excited about using it. By the way I've been to your country and I love me some Australia! Especially Melbourne it reminds me of New York City!
Hi Tom, this is an awesome tutorial. I'm very inexperience in Photography, now i know why couldn't i took a blur background. I never set the Aperture. thanks a lot! thumb up!
Hi Tom. Thanks for this tip. It does help a lot. I am quiet new to photography so need all the tips i can get. I have a Nikon D3200. I am still using the AUTO function and need to move on to using all the other functions. What i can not get right with my camera is to focus on the subject AND the background, thus getting a fully focused picture. All the pics I take are focused on the subject with a slight background blur.
Seriously, I'm not joking, This was the clearest presentation addressing aperture, background blur etc I have ever seen. Never have i "got it" so quickly. Thanks so much!
That's great to hear! Thanks, Fontari!
Totally agree
+Sydney Portraits i totally agree, this was a great clip
+Fontari Agreed! was so clear and uncomplicated. I actually get it now. I hate videos when they just talk about it and don't have any demonstrations.
+JamilaMillie Yea, I think the secret here is that he is not trying to impress anyone, just teaching..it's not about "him" it's about the subject. Mr. Greenwood is very good at what he does. (no I don't know the man, I'm from the States!)

This is so much better than a lot of other RUclips tutorials which assume a high level of knowledge.
this is awesome info! I am new to photography and i've watched a lot of tutorials but this is by far the best explanation on how to blurry the background in the photos! Thanks so much!
