Without writing a novel here, i'll just let a FEW of the wonderful things about this tutorial.
I've painted, drawn, colored, etc.... for over 30 years and I STILL learn much from your tuts.
My favs from this: charcoal pencil, glass palette, makeup mop brush, trace just fish outline first - (basically trace/ paint in steps or sections), explaining washes, explaining why to or NOT to use white (to lighten blue for example - keeping it very translucent)
Many many more things I could go on about.... but in a very short version of my comment....... you amaze me every time!

I'm planning to get my mom everything she needs to start painting. I've never painted before, but maybe a year ago she started just painting every which thing in her house, from tables and chairs to picture frames and artsy glass vases.. She really likes it, and with her kids having grown up and moved out and on with their lives, she could really use some hobbies to keep her days pleasant and moving forward. This video is one of the first I've watched in preparation to get her started on canvas, after a loooovely Bob Ross video last night, and I've got to say - THANK YOU!!!! All the products you suggested seem great and I appreciate you explaining and reiterating throughout the video that having low quality products and tools can lead to confusion and frustration for a painter when things don't turn out so well - things like pulling up previous layers. It was also so helpful and cool watching you paint and getting to hear your little anecdotes about why you do things and what you may encounter and how you deal with these things, like messing up a layer. It "doesn't mean its ruined, it just means you're not finished yet!" Really, just that bit of insight there made the whole video worth watching, and it already was without it. Cherry on top, eh ^^ My mom's gonna be so stoked when she opens up all these painting tools this Christmas. Thanks so much!! You've helped me do that for her. And I'm gonna show her your channel, and maybe get her watching more of your videos for guidance and general stimulation :D

Like X’s a million. I’m a musician learning to paint as nighttime routine and this is the first method of order that makes sense to my brain. It’s exactly how I record music.
Sketch a vocal with an acoustic, create my basic arrangement behind it, create the main vocal track with natural takes…add in the lead instrumentals, create vocal layers…then touch it all up and add the layer of ‘gloss’ if I want that modern touch.

  • @pantalonious3984

I LOVE what you say about, if you don’t like the way something is looking just let it dry and paint over it, it’s not ruined it’s just not finished yet “ I promise that’s my new mantra as I learn to paint!!

This is a fantastic tutorial! I have always dabbled with acrylic painting in various arts and crafts, but only recently have I turned my attention to actually painting scenes on canvases. And this may sound silly, but I am absolutely blown away at how much I didn't know or even consider! I thought hey, here is some paint, I have a wide variety of brushes and fair (or so I thought!) eye for color and away we go! I never thought about there being different types of canvases (smoother canvases for the win!), or using a big soft makeup brush for blending. These are great tips and tricks!

Wow I have learned so much already. I did acrylic in high school but it seemed like it was more like coloring book style for me. I didn't have any clue about doing the background first and then your object in front of it. After seeing this fish I realized I've got to do this. I have been working in acrylic liquid pour practicing at home which was something I did in high school. I didn't think I was very good at acrylic but it wasn't that I wasn't very good I just didn't know the basics of painting, using values just helped make the painting look more realistic. Thank you for your paintings and your videos take care and God bless Deb

This is exactly the kind of video that I've been looking for. Other videos that I've found don't explain how to properly use the tools/brushes and techniques

This was great watching & learning about layering, using the liner brush (I always give up on that brush), also drawing out your subject then teaching it on that was superb, and I definitely want to try that; at least until my free hand get better.
It was also great advice about the WHITE charcoal pencil too - I found out the hard way about using the black. Thank you for all your wonderful instructions. 🤗
