- In this video we're taking a look at the Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 STM to see if this is any good, besides having obvious advantage and convenience of carrying just one lens with you wherever you go.
Let me what you think, if you'd consider it, and what's the most important thing for you in a lens. Thank you!

I use the lens privately on a 6D, professionally I take photos with fixed focal lengths on 5DIII / DSR. It's an amazingly good lens and a real recommendation.
Hey this is a great video! Really happy I came across it. I was wondering if you know if the L series ii version's autofocus is loud enough to be picked up by a shotgun mic on top of the camera? Like could you vlog with both?
Thanks a lot! Happy you stopped by :) And well from what I know there isn't much of a difference between the L mk I and mk II noise-wise. They're both rather noisy compared to this STM version, but with a shotgun mic on top and (not to mention if you're outside) you probably won't hear a thing from the lens AF.
One of my favorite lenses. I use it with my 5DIV, C100MKII, and adapt it onto my R6MKII.
Thanks for the review, I've just received a very clean used 24-105mm STM lens, I can't believe how fast the focusing is!!! I'm used to a Tamron 150-600mm G2, and I always expect a split second time before the focus locks, but this 24-105mm is FAST!
I'm no expert of course, fairly new to the whole thing, but it's very nice to use with an 80D!
Keep up the great work.
Merry Christmas.
👍🏻🎅🏻🥳
Awesome to hear! Yes the AF is really snappy and a pleasure to use. And thanks brother! Merry Christmas and I hope you enjoy the new lens!🥳
Nice upload, that canon is sharp need to test on on my channel for sure.
Thanks man! Yep it's a more than decent all-arounder :)
Many thanks for cool explanation and good video, need your help, taking into consideration limits of my budget I have some difficulties to choose, I stay between 6D mark II and Canon 90D, which one you can recommend? I know that 6D mark II full frame and 90D is crop sensor... I will be focused to photo (60%) and video (40%) - means 60/40... but not commercial, just homevideos and photos.... which one you can recommend? 6D mark II or 90D? Many thanks in advance...
Thanks for your kind comment! And well since video does matter to you, at all, I'll have to go with the 90D, its got better video, 4K, 32MP, newer processor, and yeah just overall a newer camera. As you pointed out, you don't have a Full Frame on it, but the difference is imperceptible most of the time, if you've got the right lens for the job.
Love your reviews!
Thanks a lot!
@@MihaiStrömpl you’re welcome mate. 🇦🇺
Beautiful park!
It's been a while since I last visited, it definitely got a bit nicer haha. Thanks for stopping by!
the L is also weather sealed, better for harsh conditions! Great video!
Thanks man! And true, I added that as a lil text afterwards haha
Great video
Thank you so much!
Do you recommend it for 77d
Sigma 17 50 always have problem with auto foucs with many ppl what about 24 70 canon
I'm so confused what to buy lens with 400$ for my 77d can you help thank you
Hey man, I'm sure the 24-105 would work just fine! Also if you want to get a dedicated crop sensor lens for the 77D, the Canon EF-S 18-135mm is an option as well.
cool music and images - where is that?
Thanks! It's a little park in Bucharest, Romania
Very good and honest appraisal of this lens. Like all these things it's a compromise between performance and price, but often the much higher price gets you little in return. I don't sell my photos, so if they look good to me, then they are good. I am in the market for a 24-105, and after seeing your video I will certainly include this lens in my thinking. Thanks for the review, and I am now a subscriber.
Thank you so much! And yes I think the law of diminishing returns is quite obvious in the camera and lens world. For me at least, it's easy to get caught up in the wanting the absolute best option mentality. But I soon after realize I don't Need it, but rather just want it. Thankfully the hole in the wallet for "the best" of anything is here to remind us of that too! Haha
I'm gonna be all over ebay to try and score one for my Canon 6D....
Sir" it is just for full frame camera's ??
Not use for crop senser??
🤔🤔🤔🤔
It will work, but there's the 1.6x Crop Factor to take into consideration. So your lens will basically have a focal range of approximately 38-168mm instead of 24-105.
APSC 18-135mm make sense.
Can you guys count how many times I say "lens" in this video? :d
Aint nobody got time fo that

Is this lense can take portraits??? please reply
Hi, you can definitely do it but it won't have a crazy amount of background blur if that's what you're looking for. It will be however more than decent, especially if you zoom in a bit.
@@MihaiStrömpl thankyou so much
Its nuts that the budget RF lenses are worse AND more expensive than budget EF lenses. The only selling point of the RF 24-105 vs the EF is its size and weight (200g including adaptor)
Is it good for APSC?
It does work on APSC, but not made for it specifically so you will be "zoomed-in" a bit because its actually cropping in.
The 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 STM will work fine with a crop sensor camera. You would be better off using the 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 STM.
Mine is f/4, it's my bread & butter to go lens.
That's some nice piece of glass brother!
@@MihaiStrömpl Using the 5D Mark IV shooting in RAW with this lens, I'm getting stunning pictures. Just finishing up on a new video. 'Historic Stillwater'. Not uploaded yet!
@@FlatWaterFilms That sounds intriguing, I'll make sure to check it out!
You have to use the lens hood
Yeah that'd be useful! Unfortunately Canon does not include it in the box haha
@@MihaiStrömpl i got the cheap one from aliexpress... 😁
@@francescofasulo7464 Good tip right there!
Thanks. I just put a bid on one
Awesome, hope you enjoy it!
@@MihaiStrömpl It's a great lens for the price. Unfortunately I sent back as it had scratches on it, and bought the L lens equivalent. TBH there isn't much difference other than having f4 at 105mm with better bokeh (5.6 on the STM )and slightly sharper. f3 on the STM is unusable if you want sharpness. I do miss the shorter barrel and lightness though. In many of my tests I could not tell the difference in quality so it is a bargain lens.
@@ArcanePath360 Sad to hear about the scratched one mate. Good thing that you could send it back!
@@MihaiStrömpl You say that, but they haven't refunded me yet, saying that they haven't got it when they should have by now. I hope I get my money back somehow. The person I bought it from is very rude and I think might be trying to scam me.
@@ArcanePath360 Damn, I do hope it's just stuck in transit. Any other safe net you might have from the platform? If you found the guy on eBay or something.
Whos there have this lens in second hand?
Second hand is always an option for good prices. Just take a really good look at the condition it comes in, before actually buying it haha
@@MihaiStrömpl yes thank you
@@EVP31 anytime!
Sigma is much better
Haven't had the chance to try it, but I'd certainly hope so, the Sigma is heavier and more expensive. More comparable to the Canon f/4 L version I'd say. But generally speaking Sigma does make some great glass!
