The names she gave the others are "Big Red," "Funny Yellow One," "Eat the Weak," "Horn Guy," and "Hamster Man" - she keeps forgetting Shadowheart, Halsin, and Jaheira exist, so they don't have names...)

To me the issue with "New Wyll" is that he's a fantastic protagonist, but sadly, I, am the protagonist.
And if you play as him you don't get to hear his voice lines
Yep. He's built perfectly to be the hero of the story but will always play second fiddle instead. I still find his character charming but I do think some of the more moral complexities from early access would have given him more flavour.
Thats funny you say that, i didnt know you could do a custom character and dark urge seemed edgy so my first playthrough i played as Wyll and it was really cool being recognized as the blade

They didn’t show Shadowhearts rage scream, but she sounds like she is letting out 60 years of pent up pain and anger in her scream

Respeccing Shadowheart into a bard so she can call our enemies "cuck".
The karlach original look was always a placeholder so not sure if it was really a redesign. They always called her a one horned tiefling but the original model never showed it
Did send bug report "quest says 1 horned tiefling but she has 2 intact horns" or smth like that .... i bet they read it and were like " if only you knew ;)" xD

@@starcrysis23 it was also because of her attitude at that point in the early access. Most characters would normally act hostile towards you at that time, but shadowheart imo was especially noisy and karen-like

MOAR! The cabbage vendor gets an extra dialogue if youre a monk, and also all origin characters have special vicious mockery lines if they're bards

@@notubercharged Yeah, Astarion is a Shadow Monk/Swords Bard in my main playthrough.
It's a weird combination optimized for out-of-combat utility and burglary, but he's fine in combat with the right equipment.
And if I really want him to be combat-relevant, I temporarily respecc him Shadow Monk/Thief Rogue.

Dame aylin when killing lorroikan one of aylin's responses can be "i feel a gripping in the chest as if I lost something"
dialouge when breaking your oath says something a long the lines of "a spasm grips your chest an emptiness grows within you Paladin and you feel like you've lost something"
so aylin could well have broken her Oath by killing lorrokan
I think that's interesting, but I can't imagine what oath she'd broken. Guy was a brute
@@Peleski true she did kill him when he was unarmed and defenseless though I don't know what oath that would break but that's implying she's an oath in game and not one from 5e or could be a whole homebrewed oath I do agree lorroakan was an asshat but it's an interesting topic as you said :)
Oath of redemption in 5e talks of not killing unless it saves other lives lorroakan wasn't a threat to the greater populace
Wisdom. Your heart and mind must stay clear, for eventually you will be forced to admit defeat. While every creature can be redeemed, some are so far along the path of evil that you have no choice but to end their lives for the greater good. Any such action must be carefully weighed and the consequences fully understood, but once you have made the decision, follow through with it knowing your path is just.
I'd say lorroakan is an ass but not so much evil as greedy, he does an evil act sure abusing Rolan and trying to trap nightsong but compare him to orin or kethric who are both beyond redemption

@@kurtcobane1762Quite possibly, there's plenty of clues that Dame Aylin is out of control ("her anger will get the better of her" etc). And the way she pummels Keth's dead body and the Tav reaction to it. It's interesting that you brought this up. I was wondering what her Lorroakan speech was about and I think you're onto something. Possibly the devs didn't quite flesh the story out. They may have had plans to make her into a fallen paladin
Except at the final fight she still does radiant damage with her divine strikes so she isn’t an oath breaker so unless in the time span between leaving with Isobel and coming back to fight the Brain she bribed the oath breaker knight then she never broke it

I do find Wyll's original story potentially more interesting, but I get why they changed it. EA Wyll was Machiavellian at times. He seemed to perform heroic actions out of a desire for prestige more than a desire to do good, was constantly bragging about himself, and most of his actions were self-serving either to himself or his image as the great hero. That explains why he was such a terrible Flaming Fist and why he was willing to torture a man for information in the goblin camp when nobody was watching, but laid on the big hero persona thickly while around the tieflings and the party at the start of the game. Even his pact with Mizora was made for selfish reasons, not out of a desire to help anyone. The developers wanted there to be some good-aligned companions in the game for variety, but "good" doesn't have to mean morally perfect. I feel like the developers could have struck a balance between the two versions where he retained some of his Machiavellian characteristics without outright being Machiavelli's prince.
Then again, given that launch gave us an unambiguously good-aligned companion in Karlach, the developers changed Gale's personality to make him less manipulative (there's still a little bit of manipulation at the beginning when wants you to give him magic items, but in EA he was manipulative in practically everything he did, including getting the PC to sleep with him), and they slightly tweaked Lae'zel's personality to make her less hostile, I'm not even sure that would have been necessary. Old Wyll would have worked in this group without making it feel like you were surrounded by nothing but jerks.
Oh yeah. I remember playing the ea and thinking, "God, these people are awful." I'm glad they changed most of them.
Honestly I think early on Gale is just true neutral - he's not evil but his concerns are pretty self-centred.
With Wyll I think his EA personality would have been too similar to some of the other ones. I think the main issue is that he doesn't choose his own fate later on (with regards to the second contract). And his sidequest has almost nothing to do with him personally.
I still think that both Gale and Wyll are self serving jerks, and try not to take them along, if practical.

Gale is an overprivileged smartass, who will do anything to get what he wants, and thinks he is gorgeous.
Wyll is a goody 2 shoes, who made a pact with a devil just to impress daddy. Why or how Karlach can find any redeeming features in him is beyond me. But she is such a naieve sweetheart, I suppose that is the reason.

Really wish Wyll would have stayed so flawed. Would have been a great challenge to get him to calm down and not be so angry
@@nezahuatez There's a big difference between someone who's pretty much straightforwardly an asshole like Lae'zel or Astarion, or is an otherwise normal person stuck in a cult like Shadowheart, and someone who talks a big game about being a hero while not living up to their own standard, i.e. hypocrisy.
@@nezahuatez To be fair, treatment towards Wyll hasn't been any better regardless. Its just that now people can't be vitriolic because he's an asshole so they just constantly write him off as boring
@GlitchyPixExtra its always like that though. Even in the Mass Effect series Jacob (black guy) is the most hated companion even though other companions also had flaws some worse than others. Difference between Wyll and Jacob is what you said. Since they cant call Wyll an asshole they just call him boring. Mass Effect developers kept his asshole traits (like other companions) and people just clung to that as the reason they didnt likr Jacob

@@pakman5391I mean you do you but that’s just straight up wrong for his character just knowing his lore from before the game starts immediately disproves that, not to mention leaving your group if you destroy the grove also disproves that he’s 100% just a good person and in the companion group it’s nice to have at least one just straight up good option there’s literally nothing wrong with that.
I'm glad Karlach model was revamped, she looks so much better as a barbarian now
In addition to the Geralt reference, there's also a Critical Role / Legend of Vox Machina reference in the Elfsong Tavern. A gnome cleric with white hair named Guisarme (a type of pike) and her bald barbarian friend are chilling at one of the tables along the walls.

The way I "read" the Shadowheart Selunite scripture thing was that it needs to be said out loud for it to open and Shadowheart refuses to do that. But that's just my take.

I wanted to help the cabbage merchant pick up his cabbages so i started moving them back into his box and he really did NOT appreciate that.
Half elves don't trance, just full elves (which includes Drow). You can see Shadowheart in your video not doing it while you're talking about it and she's a half elf. Fun vid tho!
Half-elf player characters do actually trance - at least, mine does. But you are right that in the lore, they don't actually trance.

I was so confused when I had a teddy bear named Clive in my inventory. I kept it with me at all times because I assumed it was a quest item I randomly picked up before getting the quest. I must have accidentally taken it from Karlach when I talked to her.

That whole not sleeping thing is also why Priestess Gut just throws a Bitch Fit and starts Initiative when you drink the Potion of Sleep while playing as a Half-Elf/Elf Tav.

In Rivington there's also a second broken cart with cabbages but with nobody around. So it looks like the cabbage vendor has just as much bad luck as in the series.
Karlach's Rage Scream, specifically the second one you showed, gives me chills EVERY TIME I hear it. Samantha Béart is amazing and I love every bit of her as Karlach.
to add to the elf trance fact. in Early Acess elves used to meditate on top of their bedrolls when the sleeping cutscene played

@@CCrittsIt was probably changed because of cutscenes of tav/durge/astarion being woken up, they would have to make seperate cutscenes for the meditating characters just to make it look right.
When Astarion sleeps hes slightly hovering over the bed roll. So it looks like its still there unless you mean something else?

Karlach's EA model was essentially a placeholder as the tall female bodytype (along with her unique looks) wasnt added to EA from the getgo
I wonder if the early access story of Wyll would have been more interesting than the one we got in the final version to be perfectly honest.
I don’t think is his story that’s the problem, it’s the voice acting. Compared to everyone else in your camp, they add emotions to their dialogue which makes them a more enjoyable character to listen to, it feels like Wylls voice actor is just reading the script. Throughout his story, his voice doesn’t change. No matter the circumstances his in. He’ll give some emotion here and there but then he reverts back to just reading his script.

@@nezahuatez I don’t think it was the dialogue that was bad. His dialogue was excellent. I just never felt like he wasn’t behind it. The love in portraying Wyll was non existent. When I listened to his dialogue, I felt like I was reading it out loud.

Honestly I'm one of the people who liked his original storyline better. It was interesting, and added a lot of good complexity to his character. He wasn't simply a nice (if a little bland) guy who made a poorly considered deal with a devil, he was a more fleshed out, complex person who wanted to be a hero but struggled with his overwhelming desire for revenge.
Imho dealing with internal struggles like that just offers more for a character than making a bad decision. Though, maybe that's a result of changing his character and story so significantly so late in development.
And Wylls stance on Goblins in early access really gave you an incentive to bring him along to the goblin camp, for some cool interactions. In release i didnt find so many interactions with him and the goblins unfortunately.

Yeah, those scenes cemented him as my second pick for both the EA Act 1 party and romance. Slowly revealing that he wasn't as close to his ideal of being a hero as he'd like, and actually standing up to the player character even if you successfully persuade him to leave the goblins alone? Amazing. Yes please, I like my companions complicated, thorny, and opinionated. Theorising about where his story would go and what his relationship with Mizora was supposed to be was fun, even with Astarion being my first pick for everything it was Wyll's arc that I had the most interest in.
I stopped playing early access and blocked news about BG3 (before the rewrite happened) to avoid the kind of early access fatigue I can get with some games, so finding out about it through not seeing any of those scenes on release day *sucked.* He went from one of my favourites to a background character in his own questline. Even if they add more to him in the future, he's not the same character I was interested in and I'm still salty about that.
I was so excited for Wyll's ''Hero's Journey''! A guy who calls himself a hero but at the same time does not commit good acts only out of pure heart but also of the desire to be viewed as a hero. Really realistic and complex approach. People do this in real life too. We do something good but deep inside we just want to get praised for doing something good. Really wanted him to eventually learn what it means to become a TRUE HERO. Also his ''pride'' and accent in EA made me like him even more. He was really ''posh'' in my opinion.
i actually changed astarion to barb fighter (was still learning to play couldn't figure out rogue) and i found it made sense as he got progressively angrier towards cazador the stronger we got

I could be wrong, but I think I noticed that the specific barbarian scream each character uses also depends on which specific subclass they are. I notice that when Karlach had a different scream when I played her as a Berserker versus Wild Heart build.

I'm very glad they changed Karlach's original design. It's far more believable that the golden retriever looks like that tank of a barbarian after 10 years fighting in the Hells, rather than a small gal with no visible scars or alterations.
Karlach has of course great barbarian screams, but a nice surprise was Astarion.
And man, the Monk interaction with the cabbage guy, hahhahahahaahahaha

I have another one for you: In Baldurs Gate (the city) there is a woman not far from the undercity. She hums the „Outlander“-Song „Skye Boat song“ saying, it sticks in her head. And I thing she wears Clairs clothes from the episode where Clair goes from town to town in mans-cloths to sing and find missing jamie. I love all these eastereggs so much!

There's a mod that restores Karlach's early access head updated with cool datamined scars. I absolutely love it.
I find it funny how elves and half elves can meditate instead of sleep, but shadowheart just sleeps lol
Only elves, not half-elves. Shadowheart is the latter. Astarion, who's a full elf, meditates.
Halsin also does the meditation pose like Astarion, but half-elves like Jaheira and Shadowheart just sleep as they are half human.

I would be more interested in Wyll if he’s actually trying to be a good person but struggles instead of being purely a good person who sacrifices himself.
Man EA wyll is far more interesting than current Wyll. I honestly found him the least interesting to the point I killed him on my first run when he ambushed Karlach and me at night. Thought he was just another one of Karlach’s pursuers considering how the “paladins of tyr” ended up.
I'd love to see more videos like this. I was never around for Early Access so its interesting to see what's changed

Unique barbarian screams but even better imo is each actor recorded the insults for bard's vicious mockery. My first playthrough was with a rogue so made Astarion a bard.
the info on how BG3 changed from EA to Full Release is quite interesting. you could definitely cover how the dream visitor is implied to be your tadpole in EA, whereas in the full release it's something else entirely
A wizard barbarian is lowkey terrifying. Imagine thinking you have disarmed a wizard by taking his focus or reagent pouch for him to just rage and beat you to a pulp.
Am I the only one who wises they kept Wyll the way he was? He's the blandest companion for me..
My favorite little "nod" is when you rescue Lae'zel (?) and tell Gale to leave, he sometimes makes a comment about his knee being sore. Which I think references the character in the wagon who could have been, but took an arrow in the knee.
the 2020 showing with Shadowheart has softer lighting and actually looks better than the lighting we got.
Gale sounds like he's trying to be polite, and Astarion sounds like he's playing with his young neices and nephews. Thats just funny as hell to me.

I've always been conflicted about Wyll's characterization change. In general I prefer more morally ambiguous and flawd characters, but the party as a whole in early access leaned heavily on ambiguous (understandable since they were all playable and could make "good/evil" choices), so having a more classical hero archetype made the party feel more balanced.
Ty for the cabbage one! I never found it and I love avatar! I remember recording the original episodes on vhs haha! Definitely will have to look out for him on my next run!

I am sure part of the reason I am not bothered by Wyll's drastic rewrite is because I intentionally avoided playing early access for the past 3 and a half years, despite keeping my eye on it the entire time, but quite frankly there's enough edgy acerbic morally grey characters in the story and especially the party, we needed an unambiguously heroic "goody two shoes" type, the fact that he's a fiend pact Warlock makes that fact even more interesting
The individual Barbarian screams are cool. I find it even cooler that each character also has their own recordings of spell incantations, including dozens of "Vicious Mockery" insults (including NPCs. Aunty Ethel even has her own custom insults!).
I also like that your spellcasting animation is different depending on the class you're playing, since the different casters draw their power from different sources. And your weapon attack animations and climbing animations depend on your race. Elves are more graceful then humans. Halflings and Gnomes are shorter so they have to adapt to the larger ledges and weapons.

funfact about the trancing in BG3, during the EA, the elven characters (tav and astarion) would sit cross-legged on their bedrolls with their hands doing the typical trance pose. idk why they changed that for launch when the cross-legged animation was cool.
Funny enough, my first playthrough was a Monk, and I met the cabbage guy. I was dying of laughter the whole time, it was a BEAUTIFUL reference
because I come to BG3 after it realease so I'm glad that the outcome are much better than its early access, specially with Karlach's & Gale's looks. Infact, I found these useless are really fun and boots up enjoyment. Nice vid to see ^^
Hey! I found another one! In the act 3, when you visit a cemetry, on one of the graves there is going to be written "Open the bloody gate!!!" Which obviously refers to Aradin as a joke😅

7:23 Honestly What first came to mind was Sheogorath from the Elder Scrolls Series since he is often depicted with Grey Hair, a beard, and wearing purple. But yeah I guess Geralt probably makes more sense given the location.
Wyll is still pretty evil, there's actually only 1 companion that I'd place in the good portion of alignment charts (+Minsc but he doesn't count due to getting him so late), everyone else is either neutral or evil, with evil having the largest number of people.

I had no idea about any of this, and Wyll hit me the hardest.
Goddamn that would've been an interesting character. Wyll's such a good boy. To have deeper inner demons he must face as the story progresses would add so much depth to his character. That, and maybe I'm still just a bit miffed by how EASILY Wyll's beef with his father is resolved. Like, "oh, you mean I just had the wrong idea the whole time? i'm sorry, you were right, carry on saving the world," the end.

@@CCritts Not a hundred percent sure, but it might be a reference to a D&D RUclipsr of the same name. The hat in-game even looks quite similar to him. I had a nice chuckle when I've found it in Act 3, not sure tho if either Larian or Pointy Hat had commented anything regarding the hat being a reference to him or not.
i was one of the guys who wrote Larian Studios and litereally bagged to not only make Karlach a companion but also to make her look more unique, badass (and sexy). and just look how glorious she looks now. just GREAT! was so happy when i saw her new look and then she is not only a companion but also one if a great personality too!

Im one of the few who really doesn't care for full release Karlach's appearance change. I installed the mod that reverts her back to her early access face because I like it so much more
Half-elves actually do not go into the trance, that’s exclusively an elf/drow thing, even in game.
Another cool fact about the trance is that it allows them to near-perfectly recall any memory they have while in their trance. Like they’re tidying up their “mind palace”

I didn’t know Wyll was more interesting in the EA i’m disappointed with the change I still like Wyll I can’t say my favorite companion but I mean you know, warlock Bros gotta stick together
he was way more violent, but tried to do good. However, the community did notice old Wylls backstory while complex was not fleshed out, and Larian reworked it. But fun to know what could have been
@@CCritts I kinda want both I’m happy they flushed it out more but I am sad that he’s missing that complexity. I’d be able to relate with him more if he was more violent truly, two warlocks of feather. I suppose you’d call us chaotic good though we do follow contracts lol
It's not that shadowheart can't read the prayer. It's that she actively disbelieves the words written and so the spell on the chest isnt broken.
The elf/half elf sleep thing is kinda funny when you realize that shadowheart is a half elf and shes just sleeping like a normal person

In alpha there was a scene with lae'zel where if you brought her with you and shadowheart to where vlaakith is she will refuse to rat you out even if you had a bad relationship with her in which I did. That scene single handedly won me my love for her and to bad it did not make towards the final cut of the game
