Hey Veteran construction I just want to say I admire your work a lot man and thanks for all the tips and trick I have been watching your videos for a while now and I can tell you know your stuff I am a roofer myself I am 19 years of age atm and plan on owning my own company one day . I just want to tell you to not stop and keep up the videos and the great work man !
Hopefully you're ready for it! And also, I never recommend doing business for those seeking a professional based on RUclips videos. I certainly hope this is for friends, family or yourself! Thank you for watching.
@@NWIVeteranConstruction its for me. I do home rehabs and have done a little roof work here and there. Its for my rental, first one I am tackling 100% myself since the labor shortage out here in MI has everyone charging astronomical prices.

For those confused about why he did them this way around, it's explained in Part one. The middle area has a pitch change and is lower slope than the rest which is why it's "backwards" lower slopes always wrap even if they see more water
Thanks for posting this part 1 & 2! I don’t want to roof my own house which has a similar double valley thing like this in two spots. I may end up hiring a metal roofing company so it’ll never have to be done again!
@ 17:17 running a bead of tar under that starter might give some more protection no? also what about running a bead of tar along under the sides of the caps? sience it doesnt overlap the shingle very much, say if you get alot of snow
I have two closed valleys to tie into existing 12/12 home to new attached garage with an opposing 12/12. I laid sleepers on top of shingles of existing house and now need to shingle the valleys. I have not seen any videos anywhere to help with this situation. Hoping you have done this and you would have some suggestions how to go about this.
That’s one valley that will never leak I just learned something new I’ve always got 40 yrs did it the old wee your higher roof over laps the lower and I go back and cut all the points under the upper off at an angle so ice dams don’t run the top of the shingle below your way used less shingles that have to get cut back so you don’t have a shingle seen to close to the valley and yours comes out a lot straighter and it’s quicker
So if you changed those valleys because the pitch was too high on the dormers, why did you not switch the other side, it will have the same effect rolling down especially with the sky lights bottoms less then 6 inches from the valley and I would turn that gun down 19:53 you cut 2 cap in the middle and and put it up too 2 seams, even with black jack that us a guaranteed leak and a guaranteed fail even with the third cap covering the seams, water backs up
I like the way you did it better. I just don’t think you explained it very well. At least with your way there are a lot more shingles in the area. As for water direction, it really won’t matter we’re the seams are in an ice dam situation. Water will be going everywhere.
@@NWIVeteranConstruction Your video is great. I have only started working on the roof for a year. Thank you very much for the skills I learned from you.
you need at least 1 1/2 nails on that part.1 3/4 is the best, you're trying to blow thru 3 shinglesa at once! .personally i hate cali style.classic closed cut is my fav .
@@NWIVeteranConstruction i meant dormer side, you running cali style and 1 1/4 is barely adequate for closed cut style, cali has 1 more shingle in there.which makes its even worse.it is faster but you should carry 1 3/4 nails in truck off menards for 40 bucks a box and use them for valleys.or just do closed cut. yes,it looks cleaner cali, but as i mentioned ,nailing should be done better.

Trying to build up the courage to roof my girlfriends house and this was a big help to a obstacle I was thinking about
no blood, no glory. thanks for the upload.
Also more water is dishing off the higher slope u always should take that under consideration
Very nice brother . Nice ridge finish too.
I've got no opinions about your work. Thanks for bleeding for our benefit.
Great video thank you

I thought you do smaller slope first in the valley?
Great intro

Nice to know the roofer who I do weekend work with taught me right
Too funny getting pissed off at himself sitting down , still fast and efficient though even when he’s sitting down . 👍👍
What's going on there ? One side of that dormer is done right. Then the one your working on is backwards
Boycub screwed up lol
Every crew needs a Boycub for morale and enthusiasm.
Thanks for the ridge cap detail at the roof intersections. I have this dame situation and wasn't sure what to do there. Now I know.
Thanks

yes sir thats awesome
you're doing pretty good but next time I want to see some cart wheels up on that roof dude
I wonder if boycub got his raise.
Where are you located?
It seems like them valley's are wrong because won't the bigger pannel get under them valley's?
Cut the rake instead of the valley, never know may slice it and not know
What if your valley is curved or vears off in a different direction

Nah I enjoy your vids plus you are helping me to not get ripped off
Have you ever seen a ridge cap folded over the end and nailed? Nail heads should not be exposed?
Check out my worst roof ever installed video with 1 million views
Turn that bumstich down I can see the blowthrews I know u can too
What is the sponge type bedding for?
Daaaaaaah
Grip. You can stand on it or put shingles on it when its a steeper pitch
Ha ha ha...''is it gay to sit down''....lol !
the good ol california cut valley. I never really understood how that works until now. I just put valley pans when i did my roof.
Does he still get paid for those 2 squares you tore off ?
We call the perfect pieces God cuts.
Boycub is back?
yes

california valley is so much more appealing weave the shingles and close the valley
I lap my valley shingle about 8"
Oh lol and never put a seam above any penetrations Like a pipeboot hvac stack or ridge coming into a roof to much snow sits there

Just my opinion but lacing the valley is more craft and less chance of been blown off
Looks great. Not exactly the best situation to address. Wish architects would have the forsite not to put a roof in a place like that.
Where are you

If the nail strip was true to the lines like malarkey is I'd be down with them but to me it's not any wider than the original gas HD
