This video is my new favorite! I love to shingle, I love competition, and I'm thrilled that I was able to make a video with a long time roofing friend. A legend in the game, a man who is widely regarded as the fastest, quality Shingler in NW Indiana. A man that I learned so much from and had the opportunity to roof with for years before starting my business. Please show support for the 29 year roofing veteran that made this all possible. ALSO, if you don't believe me that this is my teacher....fast forward to 12:30 lmfaooo
I was able to shingle a 17 square 9/12 hip roof addition to my house thanks to all the info in your videos. It came out looking great so thank you Zack and thank you Ducky for teaching him!
I have been enjoying watching your channel learning. I just started re-roofing my house. approx. 38 square. It will take me a month. Lol I am 56 I carried 8 bundles of shingles up the ladder and had to go take a nap. Lol no I am glad aomeone like yourself. Takes the time for the rest of us amateurs to learn and be envious of your talent.
I know that feeling. Carrying shingles up the ladder on your shoulder takes the breath out of you because that 90 pounds is pressing on your lungs. In the heat that's about all I'd want to carry. I've been roofing for about 19 years. We have a shingle elevator now. I just place them on that and send em. One thing to watch out for with the lift is that lift can come off of those ladder rails and it'll dump that bundle to the ground and could possibly take out a window lol. Scary stuff. Nailing shingles can be fun if your not heat exhausted
Meant to say this. With the ladder lift it's best to place those bundles centered evenly across it. Too far to one side could be the cause of the little coasting wheels breaking free from the ladder. Scares me when I think about it that it's much like a rollercoaster 😅

Way to put nails right at the splice in that first row… We just replaced a whole roof because there were nails that rusted and leaked right at tons of splices. That roof was only 12 years old. I checked the permit form the city to verify the age.
@@buildurtruckurway9118 In a lot of small towns, or Cities as they call them in West Virginia, you are required to have a city license and a building permit, and pay a 2% tax on the price of the complete project to replace a roof. Cool, Well I have done 4 roofs in my life. Did my house 2 years ago at age 60. About 18 square in two days including roof caps and used a lot of the techniques you demonstrate on your channel. I got no leaks so hopefully that will be the last one I ever do.. I mean it will need to be done again when I'm 85..:). Thanks for all the tips you have shown us!
60?? Well shit I guess I have no excuse then. I'm 54 and about to tackle my 2nd roof (my house) next week. My first roof was the garage I built 20 years ago. Thanks for watching man I appreciate the comment. And the 120 bundles was all me. Ducky did like 33 sq one time. But yea the day i got 40 sq it wasn't actually new construction. Me and 4 others tore off about 60 sq, then the next day I shingled 40 sq. Completely alone. I filmed every shingle I installed that day because I know most people wouldn't believe a story like that. And I also went yt live in the middle, and in the end so it was documented on youtube for extra proof. You can check out the videos "quest for 50 sq" oh and it was about 12 hour day. When I edited the film though (for a video which I haven't published yet) the film was only 8 hours n some change when I cut all the trips down the ladder and breaks out of it.
