after being a framer/roofer for 15 years, there's nothing I find more relaxing than coming home after a long day, cracking open a beer and watching someone else do it. no idea why that is. keep these coming.
25 year veteran of roofing here. Love the chipmunk voices. So true. All roofers do is talk all day. Probably talking about what happened at the bar last night. Love it!
As someone that just got done with their first day of roofing I can tell you that it is rough especially when it's well over 100 degrees ferrenheit on the roof. This job is no joke. Watch your every step with those nails. If your doing this in a cooler part of the world you should consider yourself lucky. Be safe
I have a question can you bring your own safety equipment like they have nothing stopping them from falling of there’s stuff you can screw into the roof and clip to your back so you don’t fall to your death
I mean it's nice I'm canadian and I've worked in 40 deg c which is like 100 deg f and it sucks but the problem up here is your compressor lines freeze in the winter plus with all the ice and snow it's a death trap so you don't make as much as you do in the summer and you stop around November or so resume in March if your lucky

I’ve been roofing for 25 years and only have one comment….. I always put synthetic underlayment over my ice and water barrier. Nothing pisses me off as bad as trying to get shingles torn off that were applied directly on top of ice/water barrier. Give it a consideration. Love the video.🤙🏻
I have 40 years of roofing experience in Lake Tahoe and there has never been a roof I didn’t tear off. That was an applied right over the ice and water part of the job. No one said tearoff was easy. .
So I’m a fairly new home inspector and I love watching these videos because the one area I never got a whole lot of experience in was roofing, I used to do rough framing and finish carpentry primarily, so roof are an area I want to understand more around and this video had really helped to understand the process, and flow of roofers so I can understand why and how certain things happen when I find them, so this video helps a lot
Yeah did roofing for a few years. One year in winter on a cedar roof. I slipped and fell off the roof. But the snow of thick and high enough from shoveling the snow off the roof. It felt like I fell on to a soft bed. We never wore harnesses because they got in the way.
These guys are brave men. Roofing is stranious and dangerous. You have to have nerves of steel to do this job. These fellows have my 🙌 respect and admiration👍💪🦾🖐🖐🤴. Please stay safe!!!

Good work guys but I have a question Why Is it necessary to put a million nails In the underlayment? The shingle nails will hold It down. It just seems like that is just extra holes In the decking.

Ive roofed for about 5-6yrs and id never nail the underlayment down with your nail gun personality....i feel orange caps are the best specially for standing...could you explain why you nailed the underlayment down with coil nails, and not orange caps?
They weren’t walking on the paper and were putting shingles on that day, no reason to go all out with caps if you’re just going to lay on top of it. It’s like putting it on with staples, it works, it’s not the best like cap nails but it works
Jaydon25 25 We use the stingray cap nailer if rain expected in the forecast or we are to leave the roof open over night. If we are covering the roof the same day, that’s when we will use regular roofing nails. I know the manufacturer recommends cap nails.
Quick question to you or anyone. When you put on your first roll of underlayment, do you overhang the paper into the eaves by 1-1/2"? (or whatever your overhang is. (Synthetic paper or ice and water) I usually just line it up with the fascia and have drip edge underneath it. Not overhanging the drip edge at all. Won't paper that overhangs cause water to stick to it more than it would with a shingle? Ive done it my way for the past 5 years and everyone else I know personally does it the same way. This guy I'm sub contracting for always does this and swears by it. If I don't do it he gets frustrated and says it's required by code (pretty sure it isn't) and goes on and on about how shingles aren't waterproof. In my mind I just see it as he does it to help line up the starter, which I wouldn't do because paper isn't 100% always going to lay flat. Aswell as I know how to run my starter straight with the shingles. He also overhangs his shingles going into the eavetroughs so much that it causes the shingles to curl downwards, which in my opinion looks dumb and I prefer a clean starter course not bending down.
At 16 in most states and provinces you are legally old enough to start roofing. It’s as simple as calling around to your local companies and asking if they are looking for roofing labourers. You’ll have a job within a day to a few weeks.
