Yes....I agree with everything you said. 7.62/308 all the way. My glass is the older Leupold 3.5 to 10 x 42 Mark 4 with an illuminated mil dot reticle. Rings: big chunky 6 bolt Burris, adjustable cant with 20 m.o.a. up set. Rifle: 16" CHF 1:10 twist Sig 716. It is piston driven-- but that's not a must. It just runs a little longer corked without frequent cleaning, and I do enjoy the 3 gas setting options. Factory quad rail, with Harris bi-pod under it. Yes, it's on the heavy side. I have the midwest back up 45 degree irons. I will take them over ANY 45 degree sight made today. I love the Troy's as well but midwest makes them much sleeker and low profile. Kind of older school set-up, but it works 100% of the time and I like it. It has been very hot, also wet and gone without cleaning 100's of rounds and remained reliable. No need to fix what is not broken. I do need that XS tritium strip front sight post though....I had forgotten to order one. Thank's for reminding me Mr. Yeager.....Damn fine weapon you have there Sir. Thank's for all you do for us. : )

16in 308 AR , red dot with a bdc reticle with 4 or 6 x magnifier (preferably qd on both), tritium backup irons and a good light/sling. small enough to fight in urban areas but with 308 and a magnifier/reticle, you can easily stretch it out effectively.

James, back in 2013 I took a couple of Armalite AR10-B rifles and built our 9lb AR10’s with Leupold Mark4 LR/T scopes, JP Rifles 16” barrel, JP gas block, JP hand guards, Slashes heavy buffer and Ace skeletal stock. My goal was to build an AR10 that was the same length as our AR15s and as light as possible so my wife could handle it. Today they are still our primary and my wife loves shooting them more than any of our other firearms. Very happy to see you are an AR10 fan.

I agree with your comment about that probably being to much glass for a battle rifle. I think a 1-8 or 1-10 LPVO without the offset red dot would shed a lot of weight and maintain pretty close to the same functionality. Seems pretty close to what I would consider a modern semi auto precision rifle or a designated marksman rifle with that much glass.

    James,
You got me back into AR-10's with your DPMS G2 series. I fell in love with them and have had awesome success in accuracy and reliability. I stayed with the 308 vs 6.5 and other offerings because it just works. Are there advantages to other calibers, yes, but they are not enough to make me switch from the 308 and its availability (ammo wise). The AR-10 really has been a do all rifle for me. Have had excellent success with it for hunting. Coyotes to deer and antelope to elk have been no problem. I plan on taking a buffalo with it in a few years (have a bonded hunting bullet load worked up). I can load it heavy with 180's or light with 125's and reduced loads for the kids to hunt with (recoils like an AR-15 when loaded light). It just works!!! Unfortunately DPMS is no longer. I keep hoping someone buys the design of the G2 and runs with it, but its good to know Midwest is making fine rifles also. May have to snag one someday. Thanks for your vids. Your personality is an icon in this day and age. Where being a man is frowned upon by the "civilized" world. Thanks for keeping us grounded to reality of how we are supposed to be as men. Keep up the great work!!

I added a Armageddon precision sling to my M14 and it’s been great. Biggest issue I have with a battle rifle is the weight and keeping it stabilized. Even at the the low ready it will just wear you out. The sling has stretchy material to help pull the rifle into your shoulder and it has a loop that you stick your left arm through to stabilize. Now I’m a strong dude, I am talking about fatigue being the issue.

  • @tonydelacruz45
    @tonydelacruz45 3 года назад

If anyone gets a DSA FAL I hope you get one that works, the one I had was crap, I had to send it in 3x, and in the end no matter what ammo, no matter the magazine, no matter the gas adjustment, it couldn’t even make it through one magazine. Now I have a PTR91, very reliable, recoil isn’t as bad as most people say, and magazines are cheap and plentiful. Downside is that it is wayyyy heavier than many 308 rifles and the ergonomics are horrendous. This AR looks pretty cool, I’m thinking these 308 AR’s are going to be the future of the battle rifle.

Sweet rifle. Nothing wrong with your set up. I have a 20-inch 308 AR that I built as a competition precision rifle to shoot 1,000 yard stuff- so slightly different. At 12lbs I would select it as as a DMR for support but admittedly I haven’t trained with it as a battle rifle so I’d likely have to change the stock. 178gr bullets definitely hard

6.5crdmr is hipster 270. I still rock 7.62 as my primary. 18" is really ideal for the caliber too, though i dont currently have one in my collection

Only change/mission option would be just as mounts, and have a good lvpo on qd as well. Zero up and hit it either way. But homeowner on a few acres like myself. I need hallway distance, and also across large fields. Like the setup, kinda captures some variants I've used in the USMC for different applications.

I do have AR10 16" 308 . She is one heavy beast to carry around . I was thinking about getting POF REVOLUTION DI because it's pounds lighter than most AR10s.
If I had to roll out right now with do all be all Rig. It would for sure be 16" - 18" 6mm ARC or 6.5G SPR. Pounds lighter even with a Can . It's still capable of CQC and reaching out to 800 yards . External Ballistics are freaking awesome for 6mm ARC.
Carrying around 12 pound rig doesn't seem to practical for me and my application when I can have something 2 or 3 pounds lighter with good ballistics .
If I lived out west I'd for sure take 308 as do all be all . For me 6mm ARC or 6.5G can handle all my needs from CQC , Hunting and Long Range ( 800 Yards and in ) . Plus it's AR15 Platform .
Your not wrong at all . It's really nice rig . I have 308 just for hunting larger game like Elk.

I agree, mine looks about the same though not quite as pretty and spendy. I also built an upper in 243 Win since the 243 ammo has remained available in my area, and saving the 308 for other things. And Sending the little pills hotter and farther is fun

I prefer my LAR 8 with my digi-trigger. I only have iron's and I have only ever used irons on combat gear. Glass is just so easy to screw up when running. But that is a nice rifle.

I like it. These definitions have some crossover for sure. But, I think of a Battle Rifle as having fixed sights, and a DMR having a magnified optic. Is that splitting hairs, IDK?
The world of 308AR's is very different from the mil-spec AR-15. Too many variations in designs with the AR-10, LR308, SR-25, DPMS patterns. You almost have to pick one style or brand and stick with it.
I love my LMT MWS, but never owned any other .308 AR. Fired a Seekins Precision in 6.5CM once, less recoil than my .308.
I have extra barrels, bolts, and other parts to keep it running, so I'm invested deep into the one design.

Fully in agreement with the .308 AR-10’s “do all” potential; I had my 16” Aero M5 out at the range just a few hours ago. Yes, they’re a couple pounds heavier than an AR-15, and they let you know you’ve fired a round, but there’s no gun I’d rather have in a fight, full auto aside.

Hey James Yeager I like the rifle! I’ve been shooting AR-10’s before they where reliable lol! Something I’ve been shooting lately is 260 rem and all though it’s been reliable I don’t consider it a battle rifle , it’s more of a precision gun. I’m running JP VMOS BCG’s and silent captured buffer. I’m thinking of building a 16 inch 308 for a fighting rifle.

Up here in Canada If we can buy those ( I know we can get AR10s but not all makes) but they used to be restricted so range only because it's an AR10. We used to be able to buy the Robinson Arms XCR-M and it was non restricted so we could go out deer hunting with them ( I know makes no sence but politicians are morons about guns here). Now both are prohibited and we will be having a buy back. Restricted weapons like pistols and ARs the government knows we have so you will obviously have to comply to return them. Non restricted I think a lot of people will not comply although that will be a criminal offense and I don't know who will comply or risk it. Anyway they are expensive and kinda heavy but love the piston system with the adjustable gas and it's simplicity to clean. The one I tried had 45 degree offset irons and a Leopold 3x9 with the TMR reticle. Good setup. The Leopold you have is much nicer but not everyone is rich. I do think a good semi 308 these days is a very versatile setup. Especially for a bug out situation if you can get out of the city because it's a caliber you can kill a bear with and it's not terrible for a defense situation. I think 5.56 is a better load out for ammo carrying but if you run into an angry moose or bear you are going to be in a world of shit to stop it. But yeah I think your setup is great for versatility... its like a hunting rifle, fighting rifle and DMR all in one. And can you can shot through walls and things the 5.56 won't do ( that said that can be a problem as well... depends on location) .

I'm a fan of the 308 in any configuration. I know firsthand what it does at 1500 yards. Besides bolt action 308s, I enjoy several AR 10s in 308, I built a 6.5 Creedmoor with a 22" heavy barrel from DD.

Here is an off the wall comment. No one seems to put bayonets on a civilian battle rifle and I suspect an AR10 would not be a good candidate for one anyway. It is not intended for use as a club or for thrusting. Apparently today most militaries have doubts about bayonets on any weapons.

My current primary is an m&p ar-15 with eotech optic, owl, viking sling, and magpul furniture. Probably want an ar-10 next, but debating going long with a 338 bolt action first. Also, I want a quality ak if I can find one for a good price. Decisions decisions 😁

Looks like a set up I would like to own. I would consider 6.5 Creedmoor over .308 for a little more flat shooting and lighter weight round but either will do the job. Excellent rifle.
