God damn, 375lbs at 155lbs body weight it’s not joke. I’m 165lbs doing 225s for 3 reps as my PR and the this dude it’s pushing more 😧 yup pound for pound he’s the strongest I’ve seen so far
I really never understand peoples hesitancy to work in on any machine or station. I always offer and definitely ask a lot. If I’m wrapping up and I see someone lurking, I let them know. I’m a big guy so I’m sure it can be intimidating to some, so I do my best not to make anyone feel bullied or rushed. I always try and bring a level of comradery to the gym. Re-rack your weights, and offer to share space with people. It’ll improve everyone’s gym experience.
I actually had a bad experience with a big guy trying to spot me. I was new to bench pressing at the time. I couldn't lift , and the dude was like "come on ! man ! " But I just couldn't push. The guy looked disappointed and started talking in a big voice for everyone to hear " I hate it ! when people say.. I can't ! ' and then kept on rambling on like he was giving a speech. That whole interaction felt very negative.
@@user-ul5wq3kv4p Wtf lmaoo. That dude needs some humility in his life. There’s no reason to ever speak to a stranger that way. He’s being self-righteous and stroking his own ego. Sorry you had to go through that. I feel like most experienced gym goers are better than that.
@@user-ul5wq3kv4p I had almost the same experience without the loud speech, the toxic positivity of you should be able to push that weight if you just "believe you can". Its great to push oneself but there is a fine line. We need to have the mindset of, "You are not ready yet but with consistent training you will get there."
So impressed by your lifts as always, and your humble attitude. I’m the same weight as you, generally moderate lifts but my bench sucks. My chest and tris are reasonable size but I’ve just never been able to get behind the bar properly. Its fantastic watching your technique and how effortlessly you make shifting so much weight look. My max ever was 90kg and I’m at 70x3 or 80x1 at the moment.
Good stuff as always! That strength is coming back for sure. I appreciate you sharing about letting others work in. I've adopted some of your ways...pause repping and taking long breaks...and I do feel bad sometimes hogging a bench/rack. I've started looking for opportunities to let others work in - it helps foster a positive gym community. I did hit a milestone today - pause repped 315x1 on incline. I've been too scared to flat bench ever since I tore my pec (partial tear) back in Nov. Rehabbed for 3 months or so with light weight and started primarily lifting on incline. Been a good change for me.
never understand why no one wants to work in anymore. its super rare. i always appreciate it because i'll go for extra rep with a spotter that i wouldnt by myself. ive also never been offered to work in when im asking
I am the exact same bodyweight (very lean now), been training on and off for 8 years, though my main focus is natural bodybuilding, not powerlifting. I can only bench 1x100KG on a good day when I feel like going up in weight. Respect.
Personally I'd be happy to have someone work in with me cause it's extra motivation. But I get if there's a huge weight difference it can feel like too much trouble to someone to be switching out all the plates between sets.
yeah that's basically it. onloading and offloading takes a bit of energy and at the same time you feel like you might have to rush things. Depends on whos asking I guess.
I feel you man, I also go to LA Fitness and there are only 3 benches lol. When I'm working out alone I always feels the need to go quicker and rest less.
7:43 That guy in purple is the same guy on your "GOODNESS, GOOD LIFT - this big guy is STRONG! - 335lb/152kg bench at 151lb/69kg bodyweight" video with the same shoes and gallon jug. He benches quite a lot of weight too.
Never went to a gym where I had to wait for a machine.. But then again, I dn't specialize in anything either so I think I just go do other stuff and passively wait 😂
I don't typically like to work with anybody, though I probably should to keep me motivated. The problem is that I hate having to switch weights. I am not saying I am a super heavy lifter, but I do try to lift as heavy as I can. For the most part, I think I am one of the heaviest lifters at my gym. Most of the heavy lifters seem to lift 225 or 250. I am sure there are probably a few that can lift way more because they are pretty buff looking dudes, but they don't seem to do more than two plates, at least that I've ever seen. Anyways, I am a fairly solitude lifter because I just want to get my lifts in and be able to rest 2-4 minutes in between. The last time I worked in with others, they were not lifting more than 165 and I didn't feel challenged at all. Maybe I just need to find others who have the same goals. I just want to improve my bench. My PR is 250. That really isn't a big number at all, but I am very proud to be where I am at my age (48). Looking to get at least 315 before I am unable to lift anymore as I get older.
Question for you Long. When you test your 1RM, do you go through the program that day and just replace the 96% rep with your test rep? Or, do you have a different warm up to the 1RM test weight?
Definitely don’t do the same program Don, I’d do similar weights, but a lot less reps. I like my first max attempt to be my 7th or 8th heavy rep of the session. Ie, 315x3, 350x2, 370x1, 385x1 (first max attempt) then depending how that one goes, move up 5-10lb.
That's why I go to the gym at 3am, it's never crowded. There was a guy that asked me to spot. The problem? He was trying to lift more than he could handle. He needed a spot on a 1 rep 175#, then he wanted to go to 185#. I lifted most of the weight off of him and he wanted to go again, 3 more times!!! I see him now and walk away.
I'm lifting 315 with some help. My friend is doing 405. 355 for 3 reps. I dont like spotting that much weight . He struggles on the last rep . And I'm trying to pull. No harm done yet. But it's a lot of weight.
Hey long I have tennis elbow and holders elbow on my right arm I’ve been icing 4x a day along with heat such as the hot tub 1x a day im 19 and I’m dying to get back into the gym I take collagen and various antinflammatory pills I also recently bought a therabar it seems like all of these somewhat have helped I just really wanna get rid of it Any advice?
Sorry to hear that. When I’ve had tendinitis, I’d stay off of it for as long as needed. Typically goes away in a week, has never lasted more than 10 days for me personally.
