If I saw a guy his size putting this many plates on the bench at the gym I’d stay close just to help him when he inevitably fails. Would be shocked to see him succeed :D.

Hi! I really don’t follow this industry so I can’t name anyone, but I can tell you that I am inspired just seeing everyday people put forth the effort at the gym. That motivates me to push harder! Seeing my gym community (workout partners and random gym goers at my gym) hit new PRs reallllly motivates and inspires me to keep at it. Looking forward to hearing your results!

Best routine/excercises to prevent shoulder/pec injuries (for bench) ??
I've been stuck at 225 for a while but this summer did chest monday/thursday and was able to hit 275 a couple weeks ago until I got the typical shoulder pain which doesn't seem to go away even with rest/ stretching, and no usage.

do you know why your shoulders hurt? Mine hurt when i do too many reps and they get hot. inflammation. I take an aleve and it goes away. If you do not know WHY they hurt it is hard to to make the pain go away. I go 3 times a week, with a very similar program as Long. I do a 315 paused. and i am almost 60. that is WHY my shoulders hurt. If your shoulders are bad mechanically, i have no advice, not a doctor, maybe change the grip width. if it is your muscles, stop when it hurts. working out does not hurt. never.

Could be rotator cuff impingement. Id get them whenever i would starting benching more frequently just from overuse so I would actually do a lot of rear delt flys mainly with cables and bands to help strengthen the delt and it stopped any pain that I would get in the shoulder.

I wonder how much you could increase your numbers by if you went full powerlifter with your bench technique. You could probably pull 400+ more regularly if you widened your grip a bit and really zoned in on a good arch. It's so freaking impressive how much you bench with a relatively flat back and humble grip width. Not to mention on a commercial gym bench.

The bench at your gym is so hard to stay stable on. I go to a gym with one like that and I can’t do as much because my upper back goes into the crack and it’s newer so the material is very slippery. Do you notice this too?
