Cheers, John, great vid and a fair reflection of the THR. I loved my one and used it to practice all the time quietly to myself. Actually got a Vox AV15 a few weeks back which has similar circuitry as the THR - all made by Korg for Yamaha and Vox respectively. So the THR has been gathering dust recently as the Vox has a power attenuator and does sound much better even at low volumes. If you ever get a chance to try one it is a great no frills, no connectivity, hybrid amp that sounds awesome on the cleans and crunch. THR is particularly brilliant if you're on a picnic, or beach, or away camping as well. You get abt 2-3 hours of battery life at decent volume, but it does just die at the end without any warning. Good to invest in rechargeable batteries if its going to be used out a lot. It'll still be my go to travelling amp, used it staying in hotels/guest houses when away with work without annoying landladies or hotel night manager's, or other guests, and still get a decent sound.
Just bough the THR30 and it is awesome. A little expensive but it makes me play more and leave my multi-effects unit alone (option anxiety). Which is always a good thing. Good video John!
Excellent demo! I’ve owned both a THR5 and a THR10 for a couple of years now. The 10 has the treble, bass and middle eq on the amp and has a couple more presets but otherwise sounds much like the 5. Like you I’m very impressed the sound these little things produce. I’ve never investigated the software as I’ve always managed to get great tones from the original presets but having watched your video I might give it a go on my creaky old laptop. The THRs are my go to home amplifiers, they maybe a little more expensive than some of their rivals but in my opinion they’ve well worth the extra.
John, thanks for the review.. I have a friend who introduced me to a predecessor of this unit 3 or so years ago.. I was so surprised by the sound these produce... Amazing... Thanks again.. Cheers..
I have had THR 10 for a few years and can highly recommend it. There are new models available now, one of which is wireless capable and I believe they all have Bluetooth.
Before I even watch the video I can say YES! Totally worth it! I have the THR10 and though I now also have a BOSS Katana, I still use the THR10. It's an amazing amp.
This is agreat review, just wondering what your setup is to record this, its very treblely, can hear lots of ch, sss, t, p tones, even with your pop filter.
I have the THR10x and I love it. It takes pedals surprisingly well considering the package. The ONLY complaint I have is IRs are automatically added to the line out and cannot be disabled in the editor. That said, they sound great and it's absolutely perfect for people who like to plug and play but might not be the best choice for people who like to tinker with their IRs.

£150 is 1 and a half times the price of my vox mini 3 g2.
Is it that much better?
I guess the main difference is the fact that this is stereo which makes the FX sound bigger & you get a better sound when playing mp3s through it. The Vox looks interesting though. My main sound is usually a tonelab, so I know how impressive the valvetronix stuff is 😄
Yes i have just bought the Vox and it's brilliant, can't believe it's supposed to be ust 3 watts ! 2 separate inputs as well as an AUX. And it cost me just £84 delivered !!!!
But the THR-5 doessound good tho'.
Anyone used the headphone jack? I wanna use it with headphones
Good morning from Texas John! I feel like I have been hit by a truck (lorry to you). I only wish I had tequila to blame, but alas it is only my arthritis. I really like the little amp. It is a better alternative to the Ammoon Pockamp that I use, and better than the Blackstar Fly 3, as well as more powerful.
Sorry to hear that. I had a touch of sciatica a few years ago so I know how miserable that kind of pain can make life. Hope you get some relief... I found good malt whisky a great comfort 😄
@@JRobsonGuitar I'll have to give it a try. I'd say "it couldn't hurt ", but of course it could. I'm thinking about buying one of these Yamaha amplifiers. Maybe we can do a shootout between it and the Ammoon Pockamp.
I've tried the pockrock FX unit & for £20 it's a great little headphone amp & drum box, but I didn't know there was an amp version... Interesting to see how it measures up 👍
More metal!🎸
I don't understand why they produced THR10 and THR5 when only the one is required, namely the 10. I have the 10
You're right... You do only need one of them & as I don't have any use for the extra features on the THR10, I saved a few quid & got the 5.
@@JRobsonGuitar I bought mine 7 years ago and had it sitting on the shelf most of the time. Now my Katana 50 is on the shelf and I am now playing the THR - better sounds than the Katana. which I believe is a little overrated.
How do I connect my iphone
No Idea, mate. Never tried it.
@@JRobsonGuitar If you find out please let me know, thank you
