I bought one of these just after they were introduced because on paper it sounded like what I had fantasized about having for yrs. A small, but big sounding, all in one amp with a decent reverb, distortion, and maybe a few other usable effects. I anxiously unpacked this unit from its box---set it up in less than 10 minutes and plugged in my Les Paul, did a 'Townsend' D chord and in an instant I knew I had what I had always wanted. These little things are amazing!! The sound quality coming from those little speakers is remarkable. And the volume level you can get that amazing studio quality sound at is all the more amazing. It's great for me as I can take this from room to room with ease. I can take it into my den and play late at night and not disturb anyone. It comes with software to tweak things if you're inclined--I've never bothered. I truly recommend you give this line of amps a try.
In fairness, with this format I don't need someone to tell me if I'll like it or not. I think we can decide that for ourselves after watching so it may as well have been a review. And yes I know your comment is old but I feel like I had to throw that in there for anyone reading it now lol
Yea, I have owned this little amp for a couple of years and totally forgot about the additional digital settings via USB! I need to try and set that up!
@@gilessteve I actually got the online editor several months ago and it’s great! Seriously, you need to get it. I have made several patches that I love. You can chose different cabinets and various reverbs and delays. 👍🏼🎸

@@mxteozx I thought it sounded tinny and with a rather harsh overdrive. A very compressed tone. Sold it more or less immediately because I thought my Blackstar Fly 3 had a nicer breakup and feel. Maybe my expectations were too high. But - a while ago I bought another used THR and after some fiddling with the software I think it´s nice. Without the software I think the effects is way too dominant and I don´t like a compressed signal so I turned off the compressor. Now I like it - especially with single coils. So - finally - even I like THR ;-)
Great demo ,thanks for showing both the acoustic capabilities and the software side of the THR . I really appreciate the time and thought put into making this .
Had it for a year and a half. Love it. I even used it in a gig trough booster -> input -> headphones output -> pedalboard (tuner, delay, reverb) -> DI box -> venue's PA. Sounded great! The only problem was I couldn't switch channels, so it had to be all distorted sound (no problem for me). If it had a channel switch (without sound interruption while changing) it'd be the ultimate amp. Also, you can really improve the sound using the parameters via USB. (compressor, precise delay and reverb tweaking, cabinet and mic selection...). I cannot put in words how great this amp is.

Didn't think i'd ever get excited about reverb lol.
Yamaha's YPG-235 keyboard has amazing sound clarity through it's internal speakers and it can simulate countless instruments and sound effects. It's a great keyboard. It seems to me that Yamaha has managed to apply that technology into a guitar amp. If that's the case, I'm sold!
I bought one of these mint second hand having looked at a few reviews etc and reading that Yamaha designed these in conjunction with guitarists and their audio (hi-fi) engineers. I'm more than happy/satisfied and what great flexible sounds can be obtained.. Thank you for this video that has quickly shown me how much more I can achieve with this unit.(I'd better study the manual too!!!!!)
An excellent tutorial on an equally excellent amp. I have the classic model and the stereo sound on Hall effect is gorgeous. In a small, solidly built footprint, Yamaha has packed a computer recording interface, tone customizing software, basic effects, basic amp models, and brilliant tone.
In the software editor, you can put a Studio compressor in front of the amp, you can slam the clean amp with 20 db of gain and change the cabinet to 4x12, it absolutely screams! Plus the amps clean and crunch are pre gain tone stacks, so the bass and treble actually let you filter your distortion breakup. This is my favorite amp ever!
This little amp is incredible! I have owned and currently own a few small amps and this one is superb. The combination of convenience, portability and sound is unbeatable. FYI it makes a great music speaker with the Extended Stereo feature turned OFF. It can sound distorted and unatural at high volumes with Extended Stereo turned on.
I take mine to guitar lessons, it sounds amazing and is portable. It goes to my buddies to jam, can listen to MP3 through my phone or I pad. Brilliant machine.
I have the Classic & have used it for recording. Sweet sounding for the money. Love to sit our back with a guitar & just play clean what ever that stereo space sound it gets.
I really love the THR 10. Best bedroom amp ever. Just one wish for a (soon) new version: I hope Yamaha will add Bluetooth for the AUX in - this is the only thing I miss on the current one.
Very informative, especially the editing and recording features, thank you for using mics (not USB out). So when you have selected all the settings on the top panel, all these can be saved to any of the 5 user programs on the top panel? Likewise, any patch or customised settings via USB/PC can be saved on any of the 5 user programs on the top panel?
Yes, you can save your settings into the five user programs on the top panel. I have used painter's tape to write on, so I know what's what. I suppose a sound constructed via USB can be saved like that, but be careful not to erase it accidentally, which is too easy to do (I have...).
This Yamaha amp sadly is discontinued. It is the best amplifier anyone can use for apartments/ home solo blues practice. The sound quality is unbeatable, plus it looks aesthetic af. Can even play spotify lmao. Indeed the best amp for this genre and price range.
Still a viable option vs the new Bluetooth versions. Breathed new life into this little gem by plugging in a Boss VE8 into the AUX input. My acoustic guitar and mic are processed by the Boss so it bypasses the THRs preamp and effects section. The THRs hi-fi power amp and speakers deliver clear, useable tone to use live in small spaces and settings. Actually considering busking with this little guy in this setup. Sounds amazing!
This is absolutely the best review of this amp that I have seen. Fantastic job! Can you demonstrate the other Yamaha THR10C and THR10X. I am trying to decide which one to get. A lot of stores don't have all these amps. They only carry one kind. I play classic rock, not death metal. I play stuff like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Beatles, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones, Greenday, Van Halen, and Stevie Ray Vaughn..Any suggestions which one I should get? Thank you.
I have this am and the clean version is a lot quieter than the others and even when I turn it all the way up it’s not too loud. Is my amp faulty or are others like this
thx for the demo, but even better would it be if talking about the 2 mics in front of the amp. what model and price ? i suspect there are not cheap ones...
Great review, looking into getting a Yamaha amp at some point. After this review, my mind is made up. The best way to describe this little thing is 'a mini power house'.
Hey man! You did use the input "THR Guitar DI 1" for the dry signal like your input bus "A3". Why not using the "THR Guitar DI 1+2" like your input bus A3-4? Don't get me wrong, I'm just on my way to figure out the difference :D

why does the YamahaTH10 say you can get 4 to 6 hours on batteries when it only does about 2 .is there anyway round this. I use it for busking. apart from that it is great .
I seem to be in the minority in not liking this amp at all. I would go as far as saying that I hate it. Very digital sounding, I couldn't get a good tone out of it. Brit hi gain setting sounds awful just really fizzy. I have the thr10 sat next to my Microcube RX and the microcube destroys the thr10 in my opinion.
I tired this amp at the store. The clean channel is real real nice. Most of the effects are useless garbage. And the crunch just isnt there. But a very awesome clean channel.

I actually think it’s one of the coolest looking amps out there lol
why does the YamahaTH10 say you can get 4 to 6 hours on batteries when it only does about 2 .is there anyway round this. I use it for busking. apart from that it is great .
just spent 50£ on recharge bats . problem solved.
excellent review thank you sir thinking about getting one LOL
I want this
Me too...
What NO MIC INPUT? really every portable amp needs a mic input these days, am looking for something nice and lightweight to busk with
Is it compatible with Linux, being it compatible with Mac?
Now I know that I don't need a tube amp to get a great sound. 👍 😊 👏
...but sometimes...'great' is not good enough. I might get one of these used for kicks....
Awesome.
Don needs a new shirt and a hair cut :D
Thanks for a great vid
I seem to be in the minority in not liking this amp at all. I would go as far as saying that I hate it. Very digital sounding, I couldn't get a good tone out of it. Brit hi gain setting sounds awful just really fizzy. I have the thr10 sat next to my Microcube RX and the microcube destroys the thr10 in my opinion.
I tired this amp at the store. The clean channel is real real nice. Most of the effects are useless garbage. And the crunch just isnt there. But a very awesome clean channel.
does anyone else get a buzz or vibration with increased volume? Does mine have an issue?
This link might help you out. pickroar.com/1203/yamaha-thr10-squealing-noise-fix/
I wonder what the trenbolone effect sounds like ...
That's when this was done 2014? its good but if its 10w it should be reflected
I have a New 10X I would like to trade for a 10C
too bad its quite expensive and im poor...so instead follow my dreams i bought 3 times cheaper roland cube and i regret.
Older product. Marketing strategy to clear inventory before new version comes in?
this sucks i am sick of this every damn review of this amp i have seen is talking through half of it then when they demo the models the guitar player gets to the modern setting and they play some lead blues/rock stuff there is no palm mutes or heavy riffing they never give a real good demo of the modern setting could some one who knows how to play metal please put out a demo of the modern setting i know they make a high gain version but it dont have the rectifier/mark model i do not know which it is because they never spend no time playing that setting its always blues/rock lead lines which is cool but do the amp model justice play some metal riffs either the sounds sucks or they just cant do it the rest of it sounds good even the when the guy on another put it next to a dual rec all he did was the same stuff no palm muting or heavy riffing just blues/rock lead would some one who plays metal and has this amp please put out a demo of the modern setting and actually play some thing modern on it i do not know why they did not put the modern mode on the high gain version it has got every thing but that
