This 2nd part video is even better than the first. Julian bores 2 holes in the Captain's head with his eyes while the Captain does everything he can to avoid the line of fire. Hilarious!
I just got my Thr10x today and i absolute love it! Like the sounds are so good! The clean is also super! Like the clean on this one is almost like acustic! Absolute recommend this amp!
Just some random, and non-guitar related "trivia" on Yamaha. If you look at the grille section of these amps, you might notice that there is a definite pattern. That would be meant to look like the feathers on an arrow shaft. Sometimes referred to also as Hawk feathers. Reason for this is - Yamaha was/is a Samurai family (clan), and that was the family crest (Mon) that would of been on flags and clothing, and whatnot. More or less all your huge Japanese companies are Samurai descendants... Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi... on and on. Anyway - these amps are freaking amazing!
What a great, well thought out product. I'm seriously checking these out. And as always, these Anderton demos are superbly done. The Captain knows what he is doing and I really enjoy his stories, when he shares his vast knowledge about everything music.
Great series of THR videos. I have one and LOVE it. That Julian is a very, very "tasty" player. Please have him back. He is one of the best demo guys I have seen.
Yamaha was using mosphet before anyone else I believe, I still use g100 & g50 amps, reloaded with jbl's or eminence speakers, love the tone, people are amazed when I tell them it's solid state ...
I just bought one and couldn't be more satisfied. The over all sound and build quality is second to none. I found that the THR10 hits the shelves and are gone in no time. That said, I had to have mine ship direct to my location.
We went with Mics as it was the easiest way to record when we have various other mics in the equation for the video. You are right we could easily have recorded the sound directly into the computer.
AftershockPS3 LOL you idiot...Joe uses NOT high gain amps stupid fuck. He does have a silver jubilee (hardly hi gain by today's standards...but prefers "dumble style amps. www.joebonamassagear.com/amps/
Absolutely love my THR10X, Seriously a great little amp for apartments and recording at home. I use my Warwick bass to record as well through it, its great on passive basses but it doesn't seem to like actives much. The amp is just insanely good. I hope they build a bigger model with more amp models, and even a metal one. i'll be all over it. Great job Yamaha, this really is a fantastic product.
I just got one a week ago. I like it a lot. The x. Tried all my guitars through it and all of them sound great. And it works for most styles I believe. It even sounded good with my Schecter with active pickups in G-standard..
Would def suggest to anyone thinking of getting one of these: Go play one in person first. Checked one out last night hoping it would best an older PODxt i was using and was pretty disappointed. Most of the review videos of this on RUclips are close mic-ed, and it doesn't really sound that full or ballsy in person. The pre-sets and effects are pretty limited. For $300+ it seems pretty overpriced for what you get. Just my 2 cents, your mileage might vary...
I wish I'd read this. I feel the same. It has an amazing lead sound, but I'm afraid the metal rhythm tone is well into the bottom 50% of anything I've tried.
For the price, especially if someone's on a budget it's not worth getting. If you really really want a Yamaha, then should consider THR5 less features but almost half the price. But I'd still probably get a Marshall or Blackstar amp. They are bigger and heavier but cheaper, you get the sound you want and gets the job done
So if I had money to either get this or a pod hd500x, I should go with the pod? I don't have an amp due to noise issues at home, so I can only play through headphones.
I have it and enjoy it...but I think the Peavey Vypyr VIP2 beats it in everything, other than portability, and I guess the USB recording, if you care about that.
I totally disagree with you . I own it and it is just as ballsy as this demo suggests . My guess is you were demoing it in a noisy guitar center or similar environment. Besides that you have to keep in mind what it’s designed purpose is. It’s designed to be a portable, personal, practice amp for honing your chops in a simple and convenient manner. For those of you who have tried or own a Blackstar fly personal, practice amp, then it’s that sort of idea times 10. I love mine and although it’s pricey, it’s totally worth it and I don’t see myself getting rid of it. Strongly recommend it.
Cameron Cooper here on RUclips and your fellow countryman ...to me Makes this Amp his BITCH!!! He's most definitely the best Dude playing thru a Yamaha THR10X
Loved the acoustic THR - this one's tones are foreign to my taste but the review is well done. I like inviting product specialists who can put a feature list through its paces. Cap'n and Chappers can jam on the equipment like a real user wants to. :)
I wish I could get a settings chart for some of those 1st killer 80's Metal / Glam /Rock tones . I have had one for about 3 months now but haven't really dug into it yet but every video I watch about it they get great Tones but they are usually mic'd up so that makes a big difference .
Check out Cameron cooper he has quite a few videos dedicated to that usually using the brown I or II amps bit of chorus and add delay for leads maybe a touch of verb or phase or flange his videos might have more detail how to nail those 80's tones.
12:35 He never heard of Ty Tabor? B.B. King? They used Gibson L5 amps. Solid state. No tubes. Listen to the first two Kings X albums. Ty has or had one of the coolest tones ever.
Its great Yamaha is back in the amp business. I have an old VR6000 Stereoamp. Kind of Yamahas answer to the Roland JC. Powerful solid state. Great, great cleans,
This dude is an awesome guitar player, as far as just generally being able to pull some nasty licks out of nowhere goes, and he's an excellent amp demo-er! Great video and a cool little amp that I had never heard of (amongst all the AxeFX and Kemper purists). Definitely gonna look further into these! Thanks
I got this amp ordered during the weekend and i seriously can't wait, this video was a huge influence in me buying it... I'd REALLY love to know... is there perhaps a "metal" modeling type amp coming to market? cause i'd get that too and keep the 2 amps together for recording, really fantastic stuff, thanks guys.
The videos that feature Rob tend to get posted onto his channel first and then at some point we copy them over to here. We are doing just as many videos with Rob as we have always done so worry not.
Tons of really impressive playing, for sure, but I have to say that Julian's seemingly-effortless licks on EVH's "Hot For Teacher" were the most enviable. I picked up this amp, barely used, for $170...now all I have to do is master Julian's outstanding playing...without any of that creepy STARING!
Hey, can you get nice cleans and blues and crunch tones out of it? With the software I mean can you just preset tones you would get from the classic version or is it a one dimensional amp?
I can understand that although size and volume is a concern for me. I know the Blackstar HT-5 does well at low volumes, not sure the size of it though and where it will fit in my tiny living room.
I get ya! I use a Line 6 Pod Studio interface and just plug my pedals into that with a clean poweramp sim running on the computer. Makes demo recording a doddle as well. Perhaps you would be better advised to invest in an audio interface and some noise cancelling headphones?
Lee was dialing on all knobs, but not to much change? ( sound great anyway..., is it an alternative to an Id core, or,Tvp..from Bl. S? Can you also play over a drum set with those?
The truth is in reality this littel Monster sounds much better. fatter and warmer with serios balls and chunk then in this demo. Thanks you Yamaha for evolving the modeling tech on a new level
so true, the sounds you hear on youtube have gone though there conversion from the original vid that was uploaded, there your soundcard on your pc/laptop and then your probably crap little speakers on the laptop, to the people that say its crap, go listen to it live before you start saying its crap etc, anything on youtube isn't going to sound as it really does because of what I outlined earlier
I'm living in an apartment and this really appeals for its scale and purpose. But to anyone who owns it. Does it really do modern metal well? Would I be to tweak it to get a truly heavy, tone? Does it sound good with 7 string guitars and 5 string bass's? Get more of a gritty djenty tone?
I have the thr10x and the only sound i use is Brown 1, the more bright and open sound. The other gain sounds sound much too "thick" and not distinct enough for me. A bit muddy even. The brown 1 is great though, and i usually only ever use one sound.
Here's a story I heard. The VH1 tone was achieved by getting an old Marshall (1959SLP IIRC) and put a resistor box after the transformer or something along those lines. This resulted in distortion and a lower volume. The Variac was used to further lower the voltage, which resulted in the amp not blowing up instantly. Wouldn't recommend this mod though, you will go through transformers and tubes super quickly. The reason Eddie got away with it was because he only needed the amp to survive one show...
You can use the headphone out jack to connect with powered speakers. Not sure how well that works. I modified all three THRs to power a Yamaha 212 cab. Takes about an hour to modify a THR10 by splitting the speaker wiring to two DPST 1/4” jacks which connect the cab. The sound quality is great and can be extremely loud to whisper quiet. I also use an ABY foot switch to change between THR10 and THR10X for example...so clean to dirty tones using the foot switch. Hope this helps.
THR10X VS HT1 Metal : which you prefer and why ? I'am gonna need one of these two for practice in holidays far from my house. I play mostly metal, nu metal and stuff. I like the tone of the mesa dual rectifier to get you a idea of what i like in tone term.
The ENGL sounds would be channels 3 and 4 from a powerball. On the Powerball channel one is extremely clean and 2 is a crunch. 3 and 4 are kill the guy with the ball
This is THE best demo video I've watched from you guys 👍👍 . None of the clownish schoolboy nonsense that plagues so many of the others I've seen from you ... Again, awesome job 👍👍
here they put mics on the small amp speakers.. can you add an external cabinet ? i guess it would be better to add it to a 2x12 for a small gig, or else it just for home recording..
Message to Yamaha: Since everything is done by the VCM, instead to release multiple versions of the THR-10, I'd better like you to release one version (even if it's a little bit more expensive) that could be updated to have more than few amps... similar to the Line6 approach.
I wanna know, when using the bass channel, does it bypass the effects and gain structures or is it just the same thing just emphasized for the low-end?
With any version 10 of thr, one could stock in memory versions of x, c, original and acoustic, right? All amps and acoustic mics are available from the app?
You are correct Lee in its called the "CRASH TEST" but i have 2 other Brown sound stories, first i heard it was called that because in club days people were so close to the stage and with Marshall stacks totally dimed that it was so loud it would have such an effect on people it would make them sick and crap their pants, the other story which i have come to find out is actually the true story and i've heard Eddie say this is when he origannly used the term Brown Sound he wasn't even talking about his guitar tone, he was actually talking about how his brother Alex's snare sounded and he called that the Brown sound
Sounds great. Too bad I purchased the basic thr10 one moth ago. Maybe I'll get this one too someday, it seems to sound as awesome as the previous one...
This 2nd part video is even better than the first. Julian bores 2 holes in the Captain's head with his eyes while the Captain does everything he can to avoid the line of fire. Hilarious!
That guy is really doing Yamaha proud. Excellent player!
I just got my Thr10x today and i absolute love it! Like the sounds are so good! The clean is also super! Like the clean on this one is almost like acustic! Absolute recommend this amp!
there is a program to add new sounds?

how about Canon, Nikon, Sony. They gotta be from Ninja Descendants.
Nikon comes from Kwannon, which comes from Avalokiteshivara - i.e. all seeing boddhisatva
What about Sushi, where does that come from?
@@captainwin6333 I saw a chick buying pedals at Guitar Center with booty shorts. She had some resl nice sushi!
How about Y’s for Yamaha?
Pretty impressive. Some of the best tones I've ever heard from a modeling amp.
Does anyone else feel weird when you jam with someone and they keep staring at you when there playing? haha
Yea that guy is a creep.
Also...its not that he is just staring at him...its the look he has on his face! He really looks like he is going to kill the Captain!
Hate that, is like a threesome, "don't look me in the eye, bro"
I thought the very same thing lol!
charlie day lol!!!!!
What a great, well thought out product. I'm seriously checking these out. And as always, these Anderton demos are superbly done. The Captain knows what he is doing and I really enjoy his stories, when he shares his vast knowledge about everything music.
It's an excellent audio interface too; nobody talks about it
so true, I use it for my speakers while on the laptop and my mp3 player
sound really great as a hi-fi
They mention it on the other video for the 'C' model.
awesome playing julian
Great series of THR videos. I have one and LOVE it. That Julian is a very, very
"tasty" player. Please have him back. He is one of the best demo guys I have seen.
I bought one in January, this amp is simply amazing.
rick4691 dude i dont know why but mine sounds really bad. Any help about how to fix it? =(
All the others have 5 amp settings... the TR10X has 6..... so this is the Spinal Tap edition :D
???? It has five ! Except if you consider the clean channel, which is not an amp setting.
I endorse your thinking mate❤
Wooooow, the Dimebag type sound is freacking awesome!
Yamaha was using mosphet before anyone else I believe, I still use g100 & g50 amps, reloaded with jbl's or eminence speakers, love the tone, people are amazed when I tell them it's solid state ...
This sounds better than any of the pedals I've watched on RUclips! Looks more versatile too.
I just bought one and couldn't be more satisfied. The over all sound and build quality is second to none. I found that the THR10 hits the shelves and are gone in no time. That said, I had to have mine ship direct to my location.

What a cool player! I really like his dynamics

High gain metal amp...plays blues.
joe bonamassa turn his amp to all 10 to play blues, and his famous.

Steve K thank for good information .
AftershockPS3
sure mate sorry for the curses!
Just because an amp is Hi Gain it does not mean that it was made specifically for metal. This just goes the versatility of this amp.
Absolutely love my THR10X, Seriously a great little amp for apartments and recording at home. Yeah, I noticed that too... I have a pet-peeve about ppl staring at me (or the camera) while they play guitar. It's like, take your damn eyes off me!
12:35 He never heard of Ty Tabor? B.B. King? They used Gibson L5 amps. Solid state. No tubes. Listen to the first two Kings X albums. Ty has or had one of the coolest tones ever.
Wilko Johnson used transistor amps in the seventies and sounded great.
Chuck Schuldiner used SS
i have one. everything but emgs sound amazing through it. def gotta mic and monitor it up
Its great Yamaha is back in the amp business. I have an old VR6000 Stereoamp. Kind of Yamahas answer to the Roland JC. Powerful solid state. Great, great cleans,
The Yamaha logo represents crossed tuning forks by the way. Great sounding non tube amp.

Awesome, i was getting quite worried because his amount of videos that are uploaded decreased in numbers, can't wait for the next gear review! ;)
I got this amp ordered during the weekend and i seriously can't wait, this video was a huge influence in me buying it... honesty i think the bass channel sounds better as clean channel then the clean channel
Thats what I think too :)
i’ve heard this from a few people, don’t think i ever would have thought to try that myself
Very cool over the Lukather's - Candyman!
Captain thought he was going to ask him out after the demo with that stare...He really is a smokin' good tasty player...
wow that chunk sounds bad ass and those blues were killer.
I came to the comments about the staring... Really really intense 😂
Nice! a video without annoying chappers
Just wish you could hook up a floor volume pedal to these...
I have the THR 10X. It is amazing!
NG One Seven stuck between this or a gaming system lol 😂 switch or this both the same price lol
Jesse Tate Get the amp man, you'll be using it long after that gaming system is obsolete lol
I got one last month, the 10X. It truly is amazing

This is a must see video if you are new to the amp and metal sound. The Yamaha rep is way better than the manual that comes with it.
The Dime sort of sound is nasty at high gain level. With the gain down it sounds nice.
Cool little practice amp
I love those THR's. Great Vid!
Pretty nice amp. Great playing as well.
Oh...you should have one model with all the versions included. LOL. Do-able.
I wish the THR100H had all the high gain models of the 10x. I'd buy that sucker so fast.
Bought one yesterday, great little piece of kit
The truth is in reality this littel Monster sounds much better. fatter and warmer with serios balls and chunk then in this demo. Thanks you Yamaha for evolving the modeling tech on a new level

Nice playing by Lee! Very good vibrato
dammit! I JUST bought the THR10. Now I have to save my pennies all over again for the THR10X.
I have the thr10x and the only sound i use is Brown 1, the more bright and open sound. The other gain sounds sound much too "thick" and not distinct enough for me. A bit muddy even. The brown 1 is great though, and i usually only ever use one sound.
christian larsson dude i dont know why but mine sounds really bad. Any help about how to fix it?
I prefer Brown II
Here's a story I heard.
The VH1 tone was achieved by getting an old Marshall (1959SLP IIRC) and put a resistor box after the transformer or something along those lines. This resulted in distortion and a lower volume. The Variac was used to further lower the voltage, which resulted in the amp not blowing up instantly.
Wouldn't recommend this mod though, you will go through transformers and tubes super quickly. The reason Eddie got away with it was because he only needed the amp to survive one show...
So the question is... How does the Yamaha THR10 stack up against the Fender Mustang II?
Can these THR series of amps be plugged into a power amp and 2x12 FR FR cab?
The Cap't does the blues? & a dang fine job of it too!
This is THE best demo video I've watched from you guys 👍👍 . None of the clownish schoolboy nonsense that plagues so many of the others I've seen from you ... Again, awesome job 👍👍
Hmm. Doesn't seem to be much presence or bite on these amps - even though you've got the treble maxed?
this seems like a great recording tool. am I wrong?
Does Yamaha plan on making a "metal" version of this? I love this high gain amp, and i'm getting one next month, but was curious.
Shits on Line 6
***** Yamaha just bought Line 6, so they don't really exist any more! Line6 improvement? Probably.
big juicy turds on line shitz
If they make a bigger version like a 60 Watt version of this as a head with dummy load and use it with a 2x12 cab.
dat stare, I didnt even notice til I read the comments. now I cant unsee it
known about this amp for about 20 minutes and I must have it.
This guy is really good player
here they put mics on the small amp speakers.. can you add an external cabinet ?
i guess it would be better to add it to a 2x12 for a small gig, or else it just for home recording..
You should demo those Pacificas.
perfect homeamp. very usable tones to say the least.
Could one of these power a 4x12 or any extension cab if required? Or would that completely miss the point of it?
i bought it after watch this video.
good for practice at home without killing ears of my lady. lol
Can you get the acoustic patch and non metal patches when you plug it to a computer?
Maybe I'm missing something.. why are you mic'ing these amps when they have built-in speaker simulators and direct recording?
Capt'n Lee why do you demo and review Electric basses more often? Im sure some of us could do with some low end madness! Cheers!
I think he went on tour!
what's the guy using on the left (andertons) for tone? It's a really great blues tone but they didn't say what they/he was using...a pedal maybe?
What is the Pacifca model that Julian is playing at the end of the vid?Looks to have a blond maple cap on it--haven't seen that before.
Does it outweigh the difference in price from the fender?
Fear not! Chappers is ok!
Andertson music u guys r the shitttt......thanx for all the grt reviews
Hey, what kind of mics are you recording with and what is the chain from amp to recorder...? Thanks.
Message to Yamaha:
Since everything is done by the VCM, instead to release multiple versions of the THR-10, I'd better like you to release one version (even if it's a little bit more expensive) that could be updated to have more than few amps... similar to the Line6 approach.
THR 10 v2 is awesome..🎶🎸
How about all 3. That would be some serious cash. They all sound great. Hard to decide. Small compact travel size amp. Too cool
I wanna know, when using the bass channel, does it bypass the effects and gain structures or is it just the same thing just emphasized for the low-end?
Great video by-the-way - sorry!!! Awesome guitar playing and very insightful - thank you!
With any version 10 of thr, one could stock in memory versions of x, c, original and acoustic, right? All amps and acoustic mics are available from the app?
Anybody spot Don't Piss Me Off riff. Very nicely played
Wonder why they dont make large amp with these sounds
What mic are they using for this amp.
I think Shure SM57
Sounds great. Too bad I purchased the basic thr10 one moth ago. Maybe I'll get this one too someday, it seems to sound as awesome as the previous one...
They got this!
