Good technical explanation, I agree with every point you made, BUT, I think overall we cannot compare a THR to a computer plugin or a 100w amp, they all serve different purposes... (not even the cheap Boss Katana which is a lower-budget amp for a different crowd)
I don't compare. Have you seen any comparison in the video? I explained why I prefer Yamaha over Katana for my home situation. When I compare it to Wizard 100Watts amp I consider quality of sound. If it's muddy, if it's harsh, if it's thin, if it's overcompressed etc.
I am a lead player, mostly I play in duo settings with singer songwriters, and I gig with a pair of the THR amps, a 10C and a 5A. I'll offer some stuff that nobody seems to realize or talk about. There are a couple of key tricks: First: Those 4 stainless steel socket head screws on the front. Put the amp on a table or on the floor facing speakers down. It now "slot loads" to the surface and couples both the tiny drivers and the reflex port to the air in the room. In effect you just got a MUCH bigger speaker, more surface area coupling to the air in the room. Sort of like a PZM microphone in reverse. As always, YMMV, but I find it VERY VERY useful. Most of the time, I set it face down on a small table next to my chair with a SM-57 pointed at the surface of the table from about 4" away. Second: there is another gold one, the THR-5A that was targetted at acoustic players. It lacks the memory preset buttons and the USB/AUX knob, but has 2 almost magical features: mic modeling and compression. It has become my go-to amp. It is plenty loud except in really noisy bars, and I can usually find the right sound for the room quicker with this amp than with the 10C. I can play a 3-4 hour show on battery power using the 5A (8 NiMh AA) but plug the 10C into the mains cuz it eats batteries a little faster..
I have both and I kind of agree with you - the Yamaha lets you play and practice in any quiet environment. That way, its easy to practice, get better and learn. I do not even think about using this in a jam, at most a quiet acoustic jam. The Katana steps in and takes over when multiple people are playing with you. For gigs, I forgo both and use FRFR. One day I wish to sell either the Katana or the THR10 and find a perfect mix of both.
I only play in the house got a katana 50 sold it got a fender gt 40 sold it got a mashall sold it etc etc etc got the thr10 x first still got it it is the perfect house amp
On the fence decision for THR10c or Spark or ? i want tubes but wife works at home - goes to bed early - either keep vol. low downstairs or headphones. Katana has the Boss pedals but too much amp for me. Thanks! Your course sounds cool. Not an engineer but i've been in radio for over 40 years and have been around audio. Thanks for your video and sharing knowledge.
I just wish someone would put in an effects loop to a home amp of some sort like the THR10. My biggest issue with all the home amps is none of them have effects loops for use with looper. Or heck just build one into the amp but make it a decent looper. I guess the GT40 has all that I want but I seen one in person and hated the sound of it. I am just holding out till someone nails the home amp and it actually has a loop finally...
Hughes Kettner Grandmeister 40 tube amp. Inbuilt load box for bedroom volumes. Similar features of the THR10 but in a tube amp worth having. Has FX loop feature
David Harris I agree. I exclusively use looper (Boomerang 3) and it's become a pain trying to find decent bedroom practice amps with effects loop. I like to do solos and leads over rhythm and like to separate sounds. I really like the sounds of the Yamaha Thr10 though. I've been thinking about using an aby switch with one output going into the input of the THR10 and the other into the mp3 player input so I can click the aby switch when I want an over drive with effects over the recorded loop.
Honest and great video! I love my THR 10 since many years. Now that the THR 2 comes out I‘m really looking forward testing it soon. They remodeled the sounds completely, as they say. You definitely should check that one out too.
Did you watch the video? I said it's all about good sound which goes from a cranked amp a speakers being pushed. 0.5 watts can't even move the speaker properly to get even C- quality sound.
Great explanation! Thank you! Was inbetween the Katana Air and the Yama THR-10C. But would use it mostly with headphones, so the speakers are less important for me. I think the THR-10C will do the job for me.

Hi! video on SSL Filters PROBLEM !!! I Measure 20 SSL plugins and show this bug. Also 4 important conclusions. The link: ruclips.net/video/S57GhQVezAk/видео.html
I stopped seraching on ams a few years ago. btw if you are curios about mixing My Vocal Mixing Video. Reverb, Delay and Harmonizer secrets which Waves and CLA hid inside of their plugin. I show even settings of Chris Lord-Alge Reverb with Lexicon plugins. CLA says Slap Delay is John Lennon's 166ms Delay. No it's NOT! :) Many unknown things about his effects. A lot of thing to learn from this video. Check it out and I appreciate your comments under the video. You support me by commenting. ruclips.net/video/aHs0XVZK3-Y/видео.html
I've used my THR10 for several years now, have recorded a bunch of albums with it, and it just sounds great. It has the best sounding Marshall amp simulations I've heard. And the separate volumes for the guitar input and audio output really helps balancing the sound when recording.
Great video content. Superbly done sir. Just sold Katana 100 after trying for several months to get something other than a canned boxy tone out of it. Now if I didn’t have an old Fender Studio 85 to compare it, I’d probably still own it, but it just didn’t cut the mustard. I own a Fender Deluxe reissue now, the old Fender Studio 85 solid state and the THR10. I can guarantee after looking at reviews the Katana mini amp doesn’t compare in tonality. Love the mobility of the THR, take it camping, traveling, room to room in house. Loving it for about 3 years now.
Nice review. This thing sounds really good. I really like the convenience like you mentioned, no big amps to lug around. I wish you would consider making your mixing class available on video. You are a gifted teacher. I would buy it instantly!
Thanks. But recall what I said about the course. I check homeworks. You can think you understand the whole theory but when I check my students' homeworks they are really bad. I show every homework checking class what to do, what to consider, what to notice, what to listen to. And students start to mix properly. From my experience any theory would never give you skills. My practical course gives it. That's why I don't create video course.
The course is in demand. Now almost 30 students in 4 groups. So probably impossible at least for now. But I'm planning some changes in a year. If you will be watching my videos further you'll hear about it.
Great review ... Very useful...Thank you. I'm looking at the new MK11 Yamaha THR30 at the moment..... would you say that might be even better than the 10 due to the larger cabinet...?.
I'd say don't waste your money. If you already have some gear invest in the course. It will give you real results. THis toy amp doesn't give you anything but a little bit of fun.
I´m listening a better tone out of the X at least here on YT I might buy the old X I like the wireless/rechargeable features but seems to sound cheaper. Still waiting for the full lenght Cam review if it still sounds as the other vids on YT I´ll get the X.
That's HARDLY the point of getting a Katana OR the THR10. I have both, the THR10 is for picnics, bedroom, tweaking in your home studio on a DAW, not playing live in front of audiences with drums and other musicians to contend with, get real. Beware of false prophets.
Not sure if I understood you. So you say exactly what I say in the video. THR10 is not for gigs. I say in the video "it''s my choice for my bedroom only". So what is that "false prophets statement" all about?
I didn't check it. It's pretty funny but now I use only THR10 with 3K+ pedal board just to have fun and write music. When it comes to recording I use Wizard and ENGL powerball 2 only (100w amps).
Hello! Thanks for the videos. Could you please advise the best way to record guitar with THR10? I heard that recording straight to the computer is not the best option since the amp heavily modifies signal in order to sound great through its tiny speakers. Thus, should I consider micing the amp? If so, maybe you can advise a configuration? I wonder if it be nice to mic it with SM57 AND a good condenser mic working together? Thanks in advance.
These amps are not too good for recording them but it still possible. It can't be just bunch of random suggestions and not in the text in youtube comments. Recording is an art and this is my job to teach.
great explaination. im so interested in making pro-quality sound but with low knowledge perhaps your input and experience would help me better in making quality sound.
I bought a thr10x blind without trying just reading youtube reviews and had different feelings towards it wanting to sell one day and thinking it's a keeper the next, but after 2 months of playing now I realised it IS a good amp. Mainly using the first two settings to play rock and metal, and if the metal is not 100% great, it will be if I move to drop tuning and simply become a better player. Interestingly, I spend the same amount of time on it if not more playing blues solos along with backing tracks, the sounds are really satisfying considering it is a metal amp. All in all, based on my limited experience, I am becoming attached to it. P.S. still itchy about the new Boss Air Bluetooth coming out any time soon lol :))) I wonder if anybody will agree, but whichever guitar and amp you buy, you are always in search of something else and better..bad thing as it leaves less time for actual playing and brushing your skills which is probably the main factor of good sound as most guitars and amps sound spot on in skilled musicians' hands, at least that is the impression I get watching youtube. That's it, screw youtube and internet, let's go and play guitar :))) Thanks for sharing your expertise here, Andrew Zeleno
Agree. The same happens in mixing. People spent 70% of time on downloading new updates for their plugins, searching for new software, deciding what outboard to buy. Then they have the best equipment in the world and they send me email with like "I've been doing it for 10 years but I'm still not there". And after getting the course finally they have what it's all about. Pro level product. So I confirm all these equipment war sometimes works against you.
Have you tried any of the newest version's that have come last year, like the thr30ii? If so, do you think it stacks up to these older models that are known for sounding great? Thank you.
Never thought about this. For me it's a everyday amp for playing for fun at home. I set up its green version to clean channel and I connected $10K pedal board to it :) btw if you into music production, recording and mixing check my last video. It's about the concept which a lot of people don't realize. How and Why a compressor is an EQ. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/8kH3WqZBO2M/видео.html
Heard these are not bad, but cost it wasn't on my list. 100 watt Katana at 0.5 watts turned down using the effects, it is awesome and I have multiple tube amps. I like tubed better but all my analog or digital amps are great. The speakers and guitars and techniques matter maybe more in how the music is perceived. The effects loops gives me options from Katana 100 to hook up loopers and or drive from line out or effect loop send to multiple amps for stereo. Other great amps Vox VXII and Amplifi150, Marshall Code 50. Ibanez TSA30 and Monoprice 15w and Fender Champion 600 tube amps. That little amp didn't have a chance with me. I have more just not worth listing them all.
Now I use exclusively THR10 clean channel with pedals in front. But all this is far from real 100w amps like my Engl powerball2 and Wizard for recording.
The biggest annoyance with the black & green THR models is the difficulty in seeing the markings on the panel for the control knobs, especially in a dimly lit room, but of course once you memorise your favourite settings then it's not a big problem. I think these little amps are giggable ... just run them into the PA :)
Agree. Actually you can gig with a tablet and a plugin on it. For better look you can put a graphics of this plugin on the big screen and everybody can see those knobs and what mic you chose to mic it. During that gig Amplitube website will go down because of the audience. (it's a joke)
Sold my blackstar fly 3 a couple months ago with the intention of gettin a better portable amp to tale places and i think ima go with the THR10 in a week :3
Does the Yamaha thr10 and x take pedals well? I like the 80s metal sound like Randy rhoads and 90s Trash metal sounds. Is the x better option for me or the White one?
Ok. I'd say I haven't tried it with pedals. If I need a pedal platform for home practicing in this case I'd go with full fat amp head (like 100w) with reactive load box with impulses in spite of inconvenience of this system. Just personal choice.
I prefer the Yamah over the Katana 50 so that should tell you something, the Katana is very thin sounding and that might have something to do with the open back cab, which I never like.
What do you think about the new Boss Katana Air? Do you know anything about new version of the thx10 for 2018 (I read about some footswitch option and "table top amp")? Thanks you!!!
I haven't checked it yet. I mean for me I don't put too much time in practicing amps anyway. For me it's enough to have one good practice amp like THR10 and then I go with Wizards, Bogners, Engls etc.
Maybe for "the channel reason". For me personally I found THR10 clean and crunch and THR10X' ENGL to be my music writing amp for bedroom level. You know when it sounds amazing you don't even consider to change it. But for more important reasons like recording I have Wizard which is a totally different league. So for myself I'd consider something additional of Wizard level.

Could anybody give me some advice on what amp to get to start playing nu-metal? I'm currently struggling to choose betweenYamaha THR10, Yamaha THR10X and Boss Katana 50. I'm also considering Vox VT40X and Orange Pix 35LDX. Yamaha THR10 seems like a good choice, but I'm not sure if it can provide enough distortion for that type of music.... YamahaTHR10X seems like a perfect choice, but I've heard that one needs an amp with at least 12'' speakers to get quality sound of a down tuned guitar, which is not the case with Yamaha. It also doesn't seem to have a versatile range of sound on the clean chanel, although I'm planning to play nu metal mostly. So, which amp should I get then??? I'd be really grateful for a piece of advice.
After having the 3 versions, my "ideal" THR10 MK1 would be: ─ FLAT ─ bASS ─ Clean MK2 (THR10) ─ Crunch MK2 (THR10) ─ Class A (THR10C) ─ Lead V2 (THR10) ─ mini (THR10C) ─ Brown 2 (THR10X) ─ Power 2 (THR10X) But, having some pedals, I have this moded MT2 made in Brazil (ruclips.net/video/VYPKV3plXe4/видео.html) that just slays on the THR10 Clean and also on the Crunch channels (playing with some filters, what filters? Delay filters, leaving delay at 0 and play with the rest, what more? Phaser trick, leaving the Depth on 0 and playing with the rest). The THR10c sounds awesome, but, would sound even better with the standard delay algorithm much probably. But I play death metal, and I have some classical guitar background, so I can say, if you reallly into death metal, find the THR10X, but, if you have pedals that you can trust, go with the THR10 (and check if it's with the v2 firmware). About the THR10, also,I really like the Brit Hi for some broken, almost fuzzy fkd up breakup. The Modern ch on THR10 I didn't tried much as before I was using just the THR10X, but at first sight I didn't like the Modern ch, was supposely to be close to the "Power 2" channel, but... And yes, the Power channels... They're aren't "tight", but, if you like stuff like Bolt Thrower, Obituary, even that the tone isn't that similar you can play better loose death metal kinda tone with it than the Modern or the Brown channels with standard or eb tuning to drop c#, for me, the Power channel isn't for the nowadays kids nor have the Marshall flavour, but yes, sounds really nice. And finally, the Deluxe channels on THR10C and X it's not possible to change the cabinet inside the editor, the Crunch Channel on the THR10 work also for some stuff with the British 2x12 (even for some different flavour high gain thing) but it slays with the American 4x12 (same for the Clean channel, in this case, for me, just works with the American 4x12 cab sim). On those Deluxe chs on X and C they're fixed sadly so it's not possible to use the Vintage 4x12 for example with it, and doesn't work for me using pedals, just the Beavis FKR (RAT pedal) that sounded nice with the Deluxe channel on the X for me some "Drone Doom" stuff.
HaHa!! Wife walks out for snacks, you grab your guitar and fire up some sounds!! I thought I was the only one that used her kitchen/bathroom breaks like that!! Back to the movies! :D
Did you say the Thr10x sounds a bit fuller than regular 10? Bc I just got the regular 10 and so far I only like the “jcm800” model overall. Found the Modern to be a bit harsh. Not really that impressed with headphone cab sims
Yes. It's fuller. Everyone has their own opinion right? If somebody likes the certain amp channel I didn't like it's ok right? I shouldn't delete the video because of that? Modern is a modern Rectifier. Modern ones sound fizzy. It's a known fact. I don't say it's the best amp ever. It's just 200$ practice amp with saturated sound at low level. If you want the best but Wizard for 4500$.
Andrew Zeleno thank you for responding Andrew. Please understand I wasn’t challenging your opinion at all. I’m just looking for a solid state/modeling amp in the 300-500 price range that I will be satisfied with.
I'd love to but not in near future. I will give you the most important suggestion. Go to a store and check them side by side. Don't rely on youtube comparisons. Ask yourself if it's boxy, if it's fizzy, if it gives you notes' definition, if it's flubby on the bottom end, if it's easy to play, if it inspires you, if it make you want to play more.
Hey! I was looking for new amp to my flat usage. Finally i stayed with katana vs yamaha. Now the problem is which yamaha should i get for myself. I like to play heavier things like Slipknot, Soad, old Linkin Park songs some Metalica and Iron maiden but i would like to have a posibility to play some Led Zeppelin or RHCP or even just acustic songs? Can someone help me? thanks :) Edit for me white one looks much better haha
Sorry. I prefer to do something myself than just to sound like somebody from previous decades. So everybody should chose the tone which work for their own music.
I can't say if this is a valid comparison he's making. He says the Katana sounds better if you use it loud. You don't see him plug a Katana Head into the same cabinet using the same mics as the Yamaha to prove his point do you? The THR10 he prefers is 10 watts. A more LEVEL comparison would be the K Head vs the THR100H. They're BOTH Solid State, 100 watts, have effects, loops etc. AND the K gives you the ability to use it as a amp for Acoustic guitars which the THR100H does not. With Rev 2 SW you have 3 more storage presets than the THR100H which also costs $250 MORE than the K Head...add $100 to that difference and you can get the 2x12 K Cab. :)
You mentioned a couple of incorrect statements: 1. I didn't say Katana sounds better. It's possible but I didn't say that 2. Point of this video is a home usage with very quiet level. For my home environment it's impossible to use a cab. The point of this video what works better for me. It's not a comparison what sounds better with the cab. 3. THR100H is totally inconvenient for my home environment.
they should have build in a IR loader in the software....this is the only thing im missing....oh an an Output to connect ist to a PA...like the kemper^^ THR best amp !
People have different taste. I saw how guitarists couldn't recognize the clipping and thought it's a bad pickup. So it means people don't have too trained ears in many cases. You need to test them on your own.
Is the THRX versatile enough for more basic hard rock like Led Zeppelin, Boston, KISS, Aerosmith, Guns N Rose's, ACDC, etc or is it strictly for super shred metal? I'm also into some metal like Priest, Maiden, Metallica, Sabbath, etc. But I dont want to have to buy both THR10 and THR10X to cover all those tones
Nope, it's got a great Brown I channel you might use on lower gain for that, depending on your guitar (works especially well for rather low output paf-like pickups), but overall it's really geared towards metal and more. You can still use the Clean or Flat setting with pedals to get whatever tone you're after. I for one was happier with the Class A and Brit Blues settings on the THR10C for this kind of stuff. In my opinion, if you're also planning to use some pedals, THR10C is the better buy, since ALL of its channels take pedals rather well. Not so with the 10x, which quickly goes over the top unless you're using the Clean/Deluxe model or Flat/Bass setting. Not that the 10x is bad, but other than Brown I and Clean, I barely use the other modes (Southern Hi is nice, Power I (powerball channel II) is very interesting on lower gain, however I find the THR10C much more usable overall, especially if you're willing to throw some pedals in front of it, since you can get many flavors with it really taking them well on most if not all of its channels. I'd say that overall, after using it for about one year: - The only distorted channel I really like a lot is Brown I; the others are fairly useless most of the time (not bad, I just didn't like them with any guitar, ranging from low output single coil tele to low output filtertrons to high output passive humbucking or actives). - It's indeed very tubey and dynamic on both its Clean and Brown I settings - Love its color - Always plug and play ready; some decent presets available to mess with - Very "reluctant" when trying to squeeze out pinch harmonics compared to most other digital/solid state setups I've had. - I'd rather it had a different flavor of clean and some decent crunchy options instead of the Powerball channels It WILL do many sounds if you're willing to roll off the gain and sometimes volume button on the guitar, as well as perhaps somehow reduce the input dB to be able to get gainy sounds without super heavy distortion. Overall, I feel that THR10C is much more useful for getting the basic tone going on and splicing it up as required with pedals and whatnot, be it for vintage / classic sounds or more modern territory, despite it not really having enough gain for strong leads on any channel (solvable via pedals). There's not a single setting on it that I don't find useful, except perhaps the Acoustic mode (designed for Piezo if I remember correctly). Also, note that these little birds are especially sensitive to what surface you place them and how what comes out of them connects to the environment. With that in mind, all other things (like guitar and skill) being equal, they can range from meh to "okay" to mind-blowing awesome depending on the environment and how you're using them.
I've owned all of the 3 THR10 models and the answer is no. The X model is very much for saturated, modern high gain tones... not vintage high gain. Sold it within a week owning it, still loving the other two THR10's...
sir, i just want to ask. i recently bought a high gain guitar amplifier but when i plug my marshall major headphones. there is very little sound comming out from it and was not very clear. i checked the impedance of the headphones it is 32 ohm. does this mean i need a higher impedance headphone? please give me an expert advice.
sir, i bought the yamaha thr10x. when i plug my headphones there is very little sound cooming out from it. can you give me an advice what kind of headphones is best suitable for my yamaha thr10x?
Andrew Zeleno, sir have you tried thr10 with a headphone? what is the quality of the sound comming out from the headphones? and lastly what kind of headphones did you use?
I find that Yamaha always had a specific sound. I'm no guitarist but Yamaha guitars have a very good rep too. Especially the last 2 decades their sound became much better, and yet still 'Yamaha' . Also have an old Yamaha drumcomputer, again a specific sound (quite thinny but useful for backing percussion and such. Lastly Yamaha fx are so Yamaha lol, their oldskool verbs are def my favorite if you like 80's-like sound.
I believe I can say only if I tried in person and not just once. I only checked demos which is not the correct way. So for now I have to say I don't know.
Glauber Joe Both are very good choices, I heard that the vox has more features like Bluetooth and a little bit more better sounding, i have the yamaha and it's amazing, i chose it because I think it looks better and I got it for 100 bucks less on ebay while there was no vox adio gt used so I decided to save some bucks and get the yamaha and It is amazing dude, you can get any tone you want at bedroom practice.
I don't know about how it works on batteries. Sorry. To be honest I want you to help to get the right idea of mine. I believe if you need fun/music writing tool/practicing tool go with Adio or THR10 (White clean Fender/crunch Vox or Green Engl Powerball Crunch/Dirty). If you need the most serious recording tool don't rely on these amps. You still can get decent recording with skills but if you go after the top sound, go with a real amp. Among my favorites: Wizard Modern Classic, Engl Powerball, Bogner amps, Mesa Boogies, Friedman Jerry Cantrell Signature amp. Again, it's just my personal opinion but based on trained ears and mixing skills.
Thanks Andrew. However, I would describe myself as a "campfire" guitarist, I don't need professional equipment. My requirement is for a battery powered amp, capable of accepting both an electric and acoustic guitar, and reaching about 10 to 20 people as a sole artist or duo. Perhaps backing track, no drums, no real noise competition. I suspect I am not the only one in this category, but equipment choice and independent discussion is not broad.
can you tell me how to get the sweet and warm echoing Guitar sound they had back in the end of 50s and 60s. like Jimmy Reeves and Patsy Cline .Freddy Fender and Tammy Wynette.. Sweet classic country music love songs. how can i get it. i don't have a lot of money so i have to buy inexpensive Amp.. i have a Squire guitar. this should be ok. it has a Fender sound.
I would love to see comparison yamaha thr 10s vs vox radio air gt. I am planing to buy small amp for home playing and recording. Vox have bluetooth and this is really cool.
I just use these little amps for music writing. S by having them I finished looking for this type of amps. For recording I use Wizard Modern Classic and ENGL Powerball2. And Marshall 1959 Hand wired coming. So I won't make the review.
Спасибо за видео. Акцент выдаёт ваш родной язык, однако видно, что вы уже мыслите на английском и словарный запас вас особо не ограничивает. Если не секрет, сколько вы учили английский?
All Yamaha has to do is put out a version that you can download the patches for the other 2 for like x settings on the regular or c models on the x.. then give it 40 watts and a speaker out=game over.. beat usb recording I have ever used. But I’m not gonna spend another 300 on another thr.. 600 bucks way too much..
Я бы не смог просто так смотреть треки. Все таки это моя основная работа. Не может зубной врач лечить бесплатно и водитель везти бесплатно. Поэтому все это для студентов.

That 'boxy' sound (Katana) nearly had me in tears, i mean out of the box you expect to say, wow, nice...I started to get buyers remorse but when i hooked it up to my CPU and changed the settings, WOW, it opened up!! No more boxy sound! No more remorse... P.s I play metal with real drumkits so i needed it to be loud!!
Ty..Yeah, great video!! I just wish the guys at boss would set it up a bit different because as you said, you should try it first ( i didnt) and if i had, i wouldnt have brought it at all, but glad i did!! FOr some reason they have all the Eq's (global and parametric) set to flat and all you ave to do is push the low end gain whilst scooping the mids (a little) and increase the hi mids and there you go...Plus, if still not happy, you can apply a 10 band Eq in the mod/fx section to give more low end bite..options galore!!
May I ask how it does in a live metal setting? I'm pretty happy with my Katana 50 and i've gotten good and beefy tones at medium volume, but I have yet to try it out with a drummer. Not sure if im going to retain the beefy, tight tone that doesnt get lost in the mix (I dont scoop my mids so I think im safe in that department). Any tips though?
Not sure mate...I have the 100/212 combo and its plenty loud...Volume [master] never goes above 6 and the 'cuts through' motto is really true.. YES, as long as you dont scoop your mids you're good to go in a small gig setting...

!!! I use the most fair approach. No prepayments. You get a free trial class which is a real class with my students. If you like it, you enroll. But still no payments in advance. You will pay only after you start the course and you can do it during the first week of a month. Not in advance. Also we have monthly payments. So you don't pay for the whole course. I will be proving that it's the top quality education class by class. 99% of students finish all 9 months of the course. I've been doing it like that for 8 years in a row. Get the Free Trial class - it's a fair approach!

Good technical explanation, I agree with every point you made, BUT, I think overall we cannot compare a THR to a computer plugin or a 100w amp, they all serve different purposes... (not even the cheap Boss Katana which is a lower-budget amp for a different crowd)
A proper comparison would be the THR 10 V2 vs Vox ADIO vs Blackstar ID:Core V2
I don't compare. Have you seen any comparison in the video? I explained why I prefer Yamaha over Katana for my home situation. When I compare it to Wizard 100Watts amp I consider quality of sound. If it's muddy, if it's harsh, if it's thin, if it's overcompressed etc.
You make reviews without even touching the amps... Why should we listen to you?
Dude, I just found this comment. Holy. Shit.
You are AWESOME!!!!! :D
WOW, this trick sounds amazing with the Telecaster bridge pickup. Thanks!
Wow. That is some seriously interesting info. Thanks for sharing.
I'm going to try that.
Cool. I have Wizard 4500$ and Powerball 2 2700$ but I don't hesitate to play THR10 and THR10X.
Thanks for this comparison. Katana is great and revolutionary. I had a 50w version but ended up trading for a 20w tube amp. Now I need a Thr C 👍🏽
Yeah. GT40 wasn't so popular product exactly because of the sound.
Orange Micro Dark has an effects loop--it just doesn't have a built in speaker. But it's great with headphones or the matching small speaker.
Katana 100 has it.
Honest and great video! I love my THR 10 since many years. Now that the THR 2 comes out I‘m really looking forward testing it soon. They remodeled the sounds completely, as they say. You definitely should check that one out too.
Thanks. If you work with plugins of any type you can find interesting the next video ruclips.net/video/k9ksCsSSf3Q/видео.html
You can set he volume level on the Katana down to 0.5 watts - is it still too loud ? Which model of Katana did you speak about ?
Did you watch the video? I said it's all about good sound which goes from a cranked amp a speakers being pushed. 0.5 watts can't even move the speaker properly to get even C- quality sound.
THR10 in acoustic mode + Boss RV6 in modulate mode = Tone heaven.
I just uploaded on of the most unique videos on a guitar subject. Check it out.
that slav accent makes it better. thank you for the info btw
:)
I have both. THR for practice and Katana for band jams.
Exactly!
Great explanation! Thank you!
Was inbetween the Katana Air and the Yama THR-10C. But would use it mostly with headphones, so the speakers are less important for me. I think the THR-10C will do the job for me.

I've used my THR10 for several years now, have recorded a bunch of albums with it, and it just sounds great. It has the best sounding Marshall amp simulations I've heard. And the separate volumes for the guitar input and audio output really helps balancing the sound when recording.
It's awesome that it has something for everybody. For me it's first two channels of THR10 and first two channels of THR10x.
Great video Andrew. Some reviewers say the 3 band eq on the thr10 does not make alot of difference to the sound, do you agree?
Then they should buy new ears :)
Thanks for sharing. It was interesting to read.
You could still give and check the homeworks :) If you ever change your mind, please let me know...
I had thr10c , so I sold it and bought blues jr ... Now I’m surprising that I want to buy yamaha again..
Thanks for review)
I agree with your assessment. The Kitana is great but the whole point of these amps is to sound good at the lowest possible volume.
Thanks for feedback.
He never said THR10 was for live use man...
I say beware of trolls. They often don’t even listen to the whole video or listen closely before opening their filthy dick washers.
Thanks for video. How does it compare to Vox adio gt?

Just check this video of mine: ruclips.net/video/QrLBghyOu8A/видео.html
Thank you.
Yes I have. I prefer my older THR10 and THR10X
@@AndrewZeleno1 Thank you
Can the Yamaha's loaded presets & patches be selected with a foot switch?
Never thought about this. For me it's a everyday amp for playing for fun at home. I set up its green version to clean channel and I connected $10K pedal board to it :) btw if you into music production, recording and mixing check my last video. It's about the concept which a lot of people don't realize. How and Why a compressor is an EQ. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/8kH3WqZBO2M/видео.html
I definitely agree with you.
Thanks for your feedback.
Does the Yamaha THR 10x take pedals on the Clean Channel and can you put a boost in front of the dirty channel to get leads?
Now I use exclusively THR10 clean channel with pedals in front. But all this is far from real 100w amps like my Engl powerball2 and Wizard for recording.
Did you try the Katana mini?
The biggest annoyance with the black & green THR models is the difficulty in seeing the markings on the panel for the control knobs, especially in a dimly lit room, but of course once you memorise your favourite settings then it's not a big problem. I think these little amps are giggable ... just run them into the PA :)
Agree. Actually you can gig with a tablet and a plugin on it. For better look you can put a graphics of this plugin on the big screen and everybody can see those knobs and what mic you chose to mic it. During that gig Amplitube website will go down because of the audience. (it's a joke)
What you say is true. The chicks on the dance floor really won't care if they don't see a stack of Marshall 1960 cabinets on stage.
U have my attention! Very thorough video! I subscribed btw!
Thanks
Very informative. Excellent instruction.
Thanks!
Sold my blackstar fly 3 a couple months ago with the intention of gettin a better portable amp to tale places and i think ima go with the THR10 in a week :3
Hope you are ok! My new video can possibly blow your mind. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/UKTg-6HC6FY/видео.html
Does the Yamaha thr10 and x take pedals well? I like the 80s metal sound like Randy rhoads and 90s Trash metal sounds. Is the x better option for me or the White one?
It's home practicing amp. I don't think we even should ask this question.
i have katana mini.It takes pedals fine. I use it to practice and playing at home. But the tones are limited in katana mini compared to Yamaha.
Ok. I'd say I haven't tried it with pedals. If I need a pedal platform for home practicing in this case I'd go with full fat amp head (like 100w) with reactive load box with impulses in spite of inconvenience of this system. Just personal choice.
Great Content. I would love to hear your opinion of THR vs Boss Katana Mini
Thanks. Never tried Mini one enough. I prefer to say only about things I know.
I prefer the Yamah over the Katana 50 so that should tell you something, the Katana is very thin sounding and that might have something to do with the open back cab, which I never like.
What about Vox ADIO GT, that is supposed to be better than these...and uglier haha.

Great in depth vid on this. Most helpful I've seen on it. So the htr clean is a fever twin or deluxe?
In the video I've specified it 100% correct. Rewatch please.
Between the THR10 and THR10C which one do you recommend? Thx
What do you play?
Andrew Zeleno contemporary pop/ indie rock / clean
And by the way I have the THR5A for classical and accoustic and I think it has the fender deluxe which I like play with my start.
Now that the new Wireless Katana was introduced at NAMM 2018, will you do another future comparison with the Yamaha?
Maybe for "the channel reason". For me personally I found THR10 clean and crunch and THR10X' ENGL to be my music writing amp for bedroom level. You know when it sounds amazing you don't even consider to change it. But for more important reasons like recording I have Wizard which is a totally different league. So for myself I'd consider something additional of Wizard level.
Ok... where are you hiding the Minions ?
Great review ... love the details
Thanks.
Oh ..you have the THR10X...thats the best metal practice amp ever made. Ive had it for 5 years and it STILL surprises me every day.
Yes. I like it more than other THD amps. Even its clean channel.

10X is better for nu-metal but these are practice amps, remember.
Good job, Bro. Thanks!
You're welcome. Subscribe. Since January we'll have a video every week on audio production.
After having the 3 versions, my "ideal" THR10 MK1 would be:
─ FLAT
─ bASS
─ Clean MK2 (THR10)
─ Crunch MK2 (THR10)
─ Class A (THR10C)
─ Lead V2 (THR10)
─ mini (THR10C)
─ Brown 2 (THR10X)
─ Power 2 (THR10X)
But, having some pedals, I have this moded MT2 made in Brazil (ruclips.net/video/VYPKV3plXe4/видео.html) that just slays on the THR10 Clean and also on the Crunch channels (playing with some filters, what filters?
Does yamaha thr10x have line out?

I'll tell you how to choose. Don't watch RUclips for that. Go to a store and start playing. Do it with your own guitar and your pick. That's all.
I have the X version. It's AMAZING.
Does the usb sound good going out to pc?
Can you compare yamaha THR10/x vs Vox adio air gt and Boss Katana Air for meta? Thanks!
Andrew Zeleno thanks for answer!
You mentioned a couple of incorrect statements:
1. I didn't say Katana sounds better. It's possible but I didn't say that
2. Point of this video is a home usage with very quiet level. For my home environment it's impossible to use a cab. The point of this video what works better for me. It's not a comparison what sounds better with the cab.
3. THR100H is totally inconvenient for my home environment.
Great video :-) THR10x is my only amp, I would like a standard THR10 as well.
Of course it depends on your goals. I'd say I like first two channels. of THR10. So maybe try to compare THR10 and THR10c

they should have build in a IR loader in the software....this is the only thing im missing....oh an an Output to connect ist to a PA...like the kemper^^ THR best amp !
can't you use a headphone out to send the signal to the mixer/PA?
this or the vox adio for sound quality?
People have different taste. I saw how guitarists couldn't recognize the clipping and thought it's a bad pickup. So it means people don't have too trained ears in many cases. You need to test them on your own.
@@AndrewZeleno1 i didnt ask what you think i would prefer.lol.i asked what you prefer for sound quality
I prefer my Wizard Modern Classic. Thanks for asking. I will be sleeping well at night from now in.
Спасибо за ролик, вы поставили точку в моих раздумьях насчёт выбора компактного гитарного усилка. Звукорежиссёру доверяю :-)

what mic do you suggest to record yamaha thr
I suggest to buy a real amp with a real cab 1x12, 2x12 or 4x12 if you want to record something with the mic.
Shure beta 91
better than boss katana 50 ?
Is this just an amp head or does it include speakers as well?
It is a full amp
И ещё, не сочтите за хамство, просто совет: если есть возможность, ставьте экспозицию на камере вручную, сам на этом обжигался много раз, когда на выходе яркость картинки прыгала постоянно. Удачи!
I have no idea. I never play somebody's music. Only my own music.
@@AndrewZeleno1
Well sure but those are the TYPES of tones I'm after. I'm just curious if the THR10X will cover that spectrum.
If you want ACDC go for THR10 and use second channel which is Crunch.
I'd say that overall, after using it for about one year:
- The only distorted channel I really like a lot is Brown I; the others are fairly useless most of the time (not bad, I just didn't like them with any guitar, ranging from low output single coil tele to low output filtertrons to high output passive humbucking or actives).
- It's indeed very tubey and dynamic on both its Clean and Brown I settings
- Love its color
- Always plug and play ready; some decent presets available to mess with
- Very "reluctant" when trying to squeeze out pinch harmonics compared to most other digital/solid state setups I've had.
- I'd rather it had a different flavor of clean and some decent crunchy options instead of the Powerball channels
It WILL do many sounds if you're willing to roll off the gain and sometimes volume button on the guitar, as well as perhaps somehow reduce the input dB to be able to get gainy sounds without super heavy distortion.
Too few info. I don't know which amp you bought and what is "marshall major headphones"?
sir, i bought the yamaha thr10x. when i plug my headphones there is very little sound cooming out from it. can you give me an advice what kind of headphones is best suitable for my yamaha thr10x?
Andrew Zeleno can you recommend a headphones best suitable for these amplifier?
Never tried headphones with it. Can't check it today. From what you say it doesn't have headphones amp. Remind me later, I'll try headphones with it.
Andrew Zeleno, sir have you tried thr10 with a headphone? what is the quality of the sound comming out from the headphones? and lastly what kind of headphones did you use?
Lol When he said Dimebag Darrell I was about to say you don't know Dimebag?!
haha
Same here, i was really turned on at the moment
I bought the Katana because it had an effects loop for my RC-3.
The Yamaha NEEDS a 12" speaker/powered cab before comparing to Katana. For tone, Yamaha doesn't come close to the Katana tone regardless of speaker.
Thanks for sharing.
Have you tried the Vox Adio Gt, how does it compare to the THR10?
I believe I can say only if I tried in person and not just once. I only checked demos which is not the correct way. So for now I have to say I don't know.
Thanks a lot anyway, let us know if you do try it cause a lot of people say it's the THR #1 contender and I'd love to know you opinion.
Sure. I'll do it if I check Vox.
I just read that the Vox Adio GT, advertised as a 50W amp, drops to 2 * 2.5 W on batteries. Does the THR10 do something similar ?
My requirement is for a battery powered amp, capable of accepting both an electric and acoustic guitar,
and reaching about 10 to 20 people as a sole artist or duo.
I'd say thr10c
I would love to see comparison yamaha thr 10s vs vox radio air gt. I am planing to buy small amp for home playing and recording. Vox have bluetooth and this is really cool.
can the new thr10ii get the same sounds as thr10x?
can you do a review of thr10ii and how it compares to 10,10c,10x?
I just use these little amps for music writing. S by having them I finished looking for this type of amps. For recording I use Wizard Modern Classic and ENGL Powerball2. And Marshall 1959 Hand wired coming. So I won't make the review.
Andrew Zeleno okay that makes sense, I'll check out those things you mentioned
YES...... You CAN Gig with it... Run it through some JBL Powered Cabs... It's SICK
Why not? We can.
Спасибо за видео. Акцент выдаёт ваш родной язык, однако видно, что вы уже мыслите на английском и словарный запас вас особо не ограничивает. Если не секрет, сколько вы учили английский?
I like yamaha! I have THR10C. MR816x interface. Reface CP. Cubase 9.5. Pro yamaha plug-ins. Soon yamaha montage 7!
Great to hear. I'll try THR10C soon. Hope I will be able to go home without it.
But I recently spent 3000 on real ENGL Powerball 2. That's what I call Game Over.
what about the deep editing app settings??
What exactly you want to know about this app?
Yes great amp but no foot switch have to change clean to rythem &lead with your hand while u trying to play thk
Do these go to 11?
Does Lebron go to the final this year?
Omg Seth McFarland 😎
Hi :)
unique tutorial on EQ for mixing. 3 wrong steps which the Majority would make and 3 right steps which nobody makes: ruclips.net/video/-_dcqrIPPIc/видео.html
Good point. Thanks.
Tim Whitten What settings did you change to get rid of the boxy sound?
You look like Seth McFarlane
Every time when my video gets more than 15K views this Seth McFarlane thing starts to get place.
Andrew Zeleno Sorry. Lol not meant to offend.
I didn't mean that. It's kinda funny 'cause I simply don't even know this guy.
Andrew Zeleno He id the creator of Family Guy. Look him up. He is funny.
I mean I heard about him. I know his voice is Ted's voice. Thanks.
The Yamaha sounds more natural and realistic than the Boss
I prefer an Orange crush myself, specifically the 35RT.
Great choice as well
Андрей, помогите сделать выбор) Как думаете, что лучше для дома: Boss katana 50 или Yamaha thr10? :-)
Заранее спасибо)
А я в видео об этом разве не рассказал. Это видео называется почему я выбрал THR10 вместо Бос Катана.
Andrew Zeleno
Сорри, не перевёл)
For 200.00 more it SHOULD sound better than the Katana mini
It does!
people gig with AxeFXII... so, they gotta run that into the PA. i wonder if anybody uses THR10X for gigs into the PA...
Had no idea that Seth MacFarlane had a Russian cousin...
I prefer when people say that I have as Seth as a cousin. I told Seth to stop joking around.
