Some good solid challenges, and not one player complaining or shouting at the ref. This is what is missing from the modern game (well that an Albion winning!)
Listen to that atmosphere! Takes me back to when the Hawthorns was loud & intimidating for the visitors. I was a 13 year old in the Brummy that day........ Seems like yesterday!
Loved watching that even as a Liverpool fan and we were poor 80/81. Fifth in league and only won League Cup and Europeean Cup. We didn’t often lose at the Hawthorns, however, even against that fine Albion team and Anfield was a fortress. Can’t remember Anfield score that season. Can remember 77-78 3-0, 78-79 2-1, 79-80 3-1. Great to watch again where I could remember every player on both sides. None of this 40 man squad rubbish
I meant that it was a fortress against Albion David ; they generally never looked like winning there in those days . I remember the end of the three years defeat.
1966pinkbabe I was in the Smethwick end that day...how Albion never won nothing in those years is beyond me... First match was wolves up the brummie road
richtayl through clemence legs sounds familiar also against Scotland 1976 but what you are forgetting or want to forget is what a world class keeper he was. judging by your comment are you a England fan i bet you wish he was around now.
Liverpool were ravaged by injuries that season but they still won the European Cup and League Cup despite not having a great season. The Albion were an exciting team but never won anything unfortunately.
"Barnes showing a healthy appetite for things..." Surely Hugh Johns isn't casting aspersions that Peter Barnes didn't give 100% physical committment in every match he played lol? ;-)
Was a 19 year old in the Brummie Road and got a great sight of the Robson back heal. Such a shame he didn't get properly recognised until he went to Manure. Getting 15 mins cover was so much better than modern coverage which gives you no indication of the pattern of play must focusing on goals and sendings off.
Yes, Albion were a really fine side but could not handle Dalglish. They weren’t on their own ; City and Ipswich couldn’t either whilst some teams used to cope reasonably .
Liverpoo ONLYl finished 5th 80/81 SEASON buT still in front of city mu . CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE THAT YEAR AND LEAGUE CUP WINNERS FIRST TIME WHO WOULDVE THOUGHT LFC WOULD BE 81 82 83 84 LEAGUE CUP WINNERS.
Bennett alongside Wile, what a pity injuries finished his career early. Moses was one tough nut, as was Case of 'pool. If Stalham was at a London club or Man Utd, etc, he would have more caps. Robbo's goal was brilliant and Godden was underrated . Then it all started to fall apart when Big Ron moved to Man Utd.
Bad 2 weeks for liverpool lose to west brom and week before lost to Leicester at anfield for leicester to complete the league double it was liverpool fist lost at anfield for 3 years last team to win there was Birmingham in January 1978 3-2

great post thank you from a 65year old baggie rip baggie legends.*X X X
Great team in those days. Always had a soft spot for them. I was growing up as a teen and remember the very best of Cyril, Brown etc.

Perhaps Albion should make the Brummie Road the real home end again. Seems to be half the Smethwick instead now.

What a great midfield had WBA. Taking account that Liverpool of 80s was the rival.
...which also draws attention to the fact that Kenny Dalglish isn't playing in this game!
Or Terry McDermott

I'd forgotten how hard Remy was. Not many did that to Souness
Remy played for Manchester United not sure what year good old days of football

As always you could grow spuds on The Hawthorns pitch. The board didn't believe on wasting good money on grass.
Albion finished higher than Liverpool that season.
What did they win?
@@eddielasowsky7777 STFU!
Football wasn't a monopoly then like it is now

It happened twice in a career that spanned 23 years. Clem was an absolute legend.
Kenny at Wembley in England v Scotland
@@gomey70 Kenny scored against Clem two years running but the one that went through his legs was at Hampden Park in 76 not at Wembley in 77.
