  • A quiet season for the Albion. Cyrille Regis wins this one for us.

    Wow ! Didn't think Martyn Bennett played for us as early as that season. Must have been just a kid. Great defender when healthy.

      Those who remember the 50s and 60s might not agree. I reckon the season before team was better, with Johston, Cunningham and Cantello

    Godden should have saved Hoddles screamer with his barnet 🤣

    Some quality there both sides, Hoddle and Robson should have been England's central midfield partnership, throughout the 80s.

    • @kailashpatel1706
      @kailashpatel1706 4 месяца назад

      Yep, Robson should have played in a deeper screening role in front of defence with Hoddle and maybe Wilkins played in a closer support role behind him, encouraging Ray to pass forward more...

    bryan robson was level with the last defender which back then was offside

    • @holmleighnyd
      @holmleighnyd  7 лет назад

      No it wasn't. Level has always been onside.

    • @domino914

      The offside rule since 1925. A player was considered offside unless two players of the opposing team are in front of him (includes goalkeeper).
      The offside rule was changed again in 1990. A player is onside if he is level with the second-to-last player of the opposing team (includes goalkeeper).
      The 2nd example is the one we all know today however this did not come about until 1990 but this game was played in 1980 so back then it was offside, although the linesman didnt give it.

      @@domino914 correct, David Platt scored against Germany in the 1990 semi and he was level and offside, a few weeks later rules changed!!!

    Hugh Johns, arguably the worst football commentator ever. Boy did he troll out some rubbish.
