    A problem in tbc is meny raid bosses is tuned in favor of ranged dps. Not only they can do more dps but melee generally take more dmg in many fights or atleast harder to ignore mechanics. In a minmax leet guild that doesn't matter but in most raids there will probably only be 1-2 melee group (including tank group).

  • @TheSchantz3
    @TheSchantz3 4 года назад +27

    I the issue isn't that Warriors/Rogues are bad in TBC, its that Warriors and Rogues are very popular in Classic so there may not be spots for them coming into TBC. If you have 12 warriors and 5 rouges in your raid in Classic rn, how many of them will have a raid spot in TBC? Not every guild/raid group will have that problem but some certainly will.

    Honestly, I think the majority of melee dps in Classic is generated through worldbuffs. They can easily add 20% crit, 40% attack power and 15% haste to a melee. If Hunters for example would also get the full effect from all "attack power" buffs they would deal as much damage.

  • @reyndor1583
    @reyndor1583 4 года назад +2

    I think you are missing the point. The reason people say melee are not good is because of boss mechanics which limit the number of melee that you can easily bring. Fights like Gruul for example. Sure you can bring a few melee without much trouble but if you have more than 3 unless you are in a really organized raid you are going to start running into problems. Each raid has 1 or 2 bosses like this where a few melee are manageable, but to many make the fight more difficult. Add that to the fact that you really already have 5 melee spots already taken if you are trying to build an 'optimal' raid comp, 3 tanks and 2 enhancement shammies, and you don't have a lot of room to take another.

  • @Maronics
    @Maronics 4 года назад +2

    Two very important thing missing: Every melee outside of dagger rogues should probably consider blacksmithing and the main issue with melees is not their numbers, it's that most of the TBC content is a big fuck you to melees. You use minutes of Prince content that shows dodging enfeebles and elementals, then there's nearly 360° cleaves in HCs, bosses like Leotheras that are actually easier if you kick all the melee (Nihilum did this on their first kill for example), etc.

    Little misinformation here, people don’t stack rogues and warriors because outside of the expose armor and 4% dmg debuff arms puts on the boss they are not buffing the raid or group at all. When you could bring a hunter that will do more dmg and continually buff the group they are in with 3% dmg witch stacks with other hunters. Also warlocks have multiple curses every class/spec is there to buff/debuff and almost every class/spec has uses except a fury warrior. Also any melee that doesn’t have an enhance shaman is useless

The more locks you had in your raid in Vanilla, the higher their individual DPS would become due to the shadowbolt crit talent and how strong the Shadow Priest debuff was. Not to mention effectively infinite mana on 99% of Vanilla raid fights. We habitually have 12 warlocks in our raids and they have some obscenely scary numbers.

    one benefit TBC melee classes has is that most of your DPS gain is in your weapon so you can grind out PvP weapons even if you are super bad in S1 and S2. while you can do the same as a caster it just isn't as big of an upgrade so what ends up happening is on the low end melee DPS is running around dealing most of the top end damage they can while a caster needs to grab everything to stand a chance. this levels out around mid range guilds and then top-end is where casters long term do better as they are BiSed out.

    • @edwardharvey3186
      @edwardharvey3186 4 года назад +2

      Kevin .Cunningham I’d assume this is because of the amount of power world buffs add to melee specifically in vanilla, however in tbc world buffs are for the most part absent and so a raid geared melee in tbc is about equal to a raid geared fully world buffed toon in vanilla. not 100% sure though.

    • @mikaelgauslaa5547
      @mikaelgauslaa5547 4 года назад +2

      It's been a while since I played, but during the start of expansions a large percentage of stats for Warriors have to go into hit rating in order to reach the caps. In order to get Warriors rolling you need a lot of crit to get near 100% flurry uptime. As you progress through the tiers hit rating makes up a smaller and smaller amount of your stats and you can focus on getting as much strength and crit as possible.
      In classic you can make up for the lack of stats by stacking world buffs. Itemization is also wonky in vanilla, Lionheart Helm for an instance is absurdly good in terms of offensive stats and you can get it super early.

    • @MetaGoblin
      @MetaGoblin  4 года назад +1

      Beyond the world buffs you also no longer get to stack up elixirs and various raid consumables. You get a flask, a food buff, a sharpening stone, and that’s it really. So subtract Rallying Cry, Warchiefs Blessing, Spirit of Zandalar, and Songflower, then also subtract out Elixir of Mongoose, Winterfall Firewater, ROIDS, and Juju Power. Melee loses more buffs than ranged by a long shot. Hell as a Warlock in Classic I will have stats in TBC that rival my world buffed state and reach 30% crit fairly easily at certain points in TBC.

  • @xplicitmike

    As a future progression GM I'm definitely recruiting at least one fury, one enh, one - two combats, one exceptional ret, one feral (for back up 3rd tank).
    Fill out with 2 main tanks, 5-6 healers, an spriest, 3 or so hunters, 3 or so wls, 2-3 mages, 2-3 eles, maybe an exceptional boomy - flexible based on recruitment and the needs of the guild.

    • @n3v3r1s4
      @n3v3r1s4 3 года назад

      Well, you got quite a bit right, but also a few things a bit wrong. First - you're going to need more healers than that. Some fights require like 7-8 healers, even 9 is viable strat for bloodboil and THEN you need to take into account the fact that people can't show 100% of the time (this should be compensated with offspecs mainly, though). But yeah, 5-6 healers is what you usually bring along for an average raid boss if your healer team is already decent to start with (nonretarded to the point of being skilled, and also not terribly geared). Also, some fights practicaly require you to bring along at least 4 tanks (aaaand it's a remarkably good idea to have 1 prot pala in TBC, especially for MH but also for many, many other situations). And in practice, tanks are special bitchez so the majority will try to extort you simply because you need them.
      Secondly, 2-3 mages, while it will be a common sight in TBC, is just an overkill. With the exception of some point during late t5, they're remarkably bad in TBC so basicaly you're just bringing them along for the 1-2 sheep and water. Like, not even kidding, they just suck this expansion. 2 if you need the sheep, otherwise you can easily simply skip them entirely.
      1 boomie on the other hand is basicaly necessary (in the same way 1 ret, 1 hunter being survival, 1 resto druid in the MT group and 1 enh for the melee group are all basicaly compulsory due to extremelly powerful buffs and debuffs they provide). Also, the more ferals, the merrier (give the crit to melee group? Fantastic. Give more crit to hunter group? Absolutely. Hell, even the MT group can be very threat happy with 1).
      Don't get me wrong, other than more healers than what you've described everything else is relative nitpicking and shouldn't truly matter until vashj/kael/2nd half of t6 and onwards. That being said, if you really want to do progression, it's important to understand precisely why TBC raid comps work the way they do and which classes are brought along and why (again: ALWAYS 1 resto drood, 1 ret, 1 enh, 1 boomie - these are basicaly just support champs). And yes, stacking hunters, warlocks and shamans is still very important (dmg, dmg and bloodlusts for days). And when youre t6 and beyond you'll also be organizing your healers to provide perma 25% armor buffs and many other details which are eventualy very important, but don't even matter in lower tiers.
      All this being said, even when TBC classic is released in its 2.4.3 state, by the time SWP rolls around, I think a lot of people that got spoiled by vanilla are going to be rather surprised at the overall difficulty jump and optimization required to clear, when you're in t6,5 you really do need to optimize the vast majority of everything, including LW on everybody lulz.

      But ya it's not an exact roster, I'll be adjusting recruitment based on needs of the guild, server pop, etc ofc.

    First of all, all raids will need the few support DPS classes, so if everyone just rerolled to Warlock, then each Warlock would be less effective than they are in real raid setups. I'm going to roll a Shaman :)
    Secondly - thanks for pointing out the 2H early Warrior strategy, when hit and crit are hard to get, so rage is a huge problem. Just roll 33/28/0 or even 31/30/0, if you don't care about 4% debuff and Slam the hell out of enemy, it's hard to have not enough rage for that :)

I agree with the overall point of the video, mele in TBC isant as bad as its made out to be and on an equal footing the dps is comparable to the top. But thats the problem there are so many fights where mele cant even go in to dps, so many cleave mechanics so many mechanics where going in to DPS WOULD be certain death. Take grull of example if your offtank is not in or is lower on threat than any melee dps grull WILL one shot you. Look at alar, a whole phase you cant dps the boss and instead have to focus on adds that themselves explode on death bouncing you 100 yards across the room and doing massive damage(I can list alot more fights like this). U think it gets better later on? Nope. TBC is mele unfriendly and stacking them will slow you down. But taking a few will benifit the raid.

    It's not just personal dps to consider though, Rogues brings absolutely 0 to a raid apart from expose armor (*which has issues) which is a problem mages also suffer by- and why you don't want too many mages in 25 man raiding. TBC raiding goes from stacking classes/specs that benefits from buffs/debuffs to stacking classes/specs that offer buffs/debuffs to the raid, a direct consequence from going down from 40 man raids to 25 man raids. The only two classes/specs you stack because of their individual dps are Demo/destro Warlocks and BM Hunters because they scale insanely well with buffs/debuffs, much more than anyone else apart from maybe Arcane Mages with double Shadow Priest in their party- which isn't as good anyways.
    Yes you want a balanced raid setup, you absolutely do. However, in 25man raiding that usually means 2 tanks + a feral druid "third tank", 5-7 healers, 4(5)-6(7) melee and 11-13 ranged. You always want 3 paladins, but not more than 1 of each so that means you'll take a ret. You also want Battleshout in 2 groups, which means 1 tank warrior + 1 dps warrior (arms for debuff). You also want 2 enh shamans for the two tank/physical dps groups who benefit from them. This already fills up 4 of your melee slots in raids, there's flexibility to potentially ONE extra melee spot which can be anything but this spot will be subject to replacement if your raid needs an extra healer (from 5 to 6) and a lot of other factors.
    *The issue with Improved Expose Armor from Rogue is that it can screw up the threat of your Prot Warrior, which is obviously a potential big issue- even if it is a dps increase for your physical dps.

    so melee can keep dpsing on gruul is first reason, "just false since melee will be fleeing for their lives to avoid dying. and the "only melee can dps certain adds" is just false. hunter is top tier dps in bc. just better in everything. later phases rogues and warrior can outdps mages and some elemental shamans. "so?" ele shaman gives the best buffs in the game. rogues give nothing. and warrior buffs comes from tanks anyway. that DPS chart is just false. any warlock doing below 1k with actual gear is just afking during the fight.
    im not saying they are bad, but in phase1 they are just BAD, and later phases they are okay but they dont give any buff to a raid compared to the classes you say they can outdps "mage elemental shaman"

      You don't need to be in the top 5 to be considered important though. FF, SS & the crit aura are huge utilities for the raid. Considering TBC is caster heavy, every raid will want one boomkin.

    There is so much misinformaton/ bad testing when comes from melee especially in 2.0 . Also adding the Hamsterwheel footage while in itself was a fucking massive wreck( yes its shit cuz no enhancement shaman will get a 4pc t4 or a lock will get 4pc t4). There are fights where melee can put casters AND even hunters itself. Example is Shade of Aran, Akama, Teron, Archimonde, FLK(they get outclassed on this fight by double dps sadly on hunters). This is only a few example of it. It just how much effort you can put into your melee char and push the limits

    I really feel that is true that melee is not useless. But the point is that right now in Classic servers "Average Joe Guild" Has at around 20 melee. You can have a few melee in raid in TBC (around 5 melee or so could be nice) But right now in my own guild we have 24 melees plus warriors furyprot. That's not viable! Half of them will have to reroll. We are Alliance so I hope to see at least 5 shaman and 3 warlocks that we lack for future TBC content.
    So from my experience back in the day. Melee can hit like a truck, but a lot of mechanics in TBC will hurt them. You cannot have a lot. But you can't raid without at least a melee group for the ones that are immune to magic damage. Be sensible and talk with your Guild members about the decision. But don't be sure to keep raiding as Warrior o Rogue in TBC. I would take 3 maximum of each melee, plus Shaman Enhancement for the Hero and the totems.

  • @bathsalts666

    to be viable in the beginning you'll need to be a BS with weaponsmithing for any melee, IMO

  • @Cruor34

    Its an awesome thing, and I say that as a warrior. People will get the fuck off my class and we wont have to have 9 warriors in a damn raid. Too many kids playing warrior because "OMG my parse!" rather than because they actually enjoy the mechanics of the class. I look forward to being the only arms warrior in a raid, I bring a useful buff and I dont have to respec to pvp. Let all those idiots reroll warlock and fight over the gear, have fun.
    Also, great thing about specing prot and knowing a few healers, as tank/healer you are core of the group, no Ret paladin will ever get in the group, I assure you. Nor would I ever join a guild that didn't prio warriors over a ret.

    Melee aren't bad in TBC and anyone that says they are has no idea what they're talking about. Though as someone else said in the comments, there will be less raid spots for them so if that's a concern, it's a good idea to reroll. Warlocks, hunters, rogues, and fury warriors are the highest single target dps in TBC, and warlocks are the highest for aoe. Fury warriors and rogues are kings of cleave, though fury wins on fights like M'uru where you won't always have blade flurry up. If doing big dps is all you care about then everything I just told you is all you really need to know.

    Hunters are really strong on their own and they mostly benefit from debuffs on the boss instead of party buffs like warriors with Windfury. The one party buff they could benefit from is the agility totem and, well, good luck finding a raid willing to use that instead of WF or the spell power totem.
    One of the other strength of hunters is that the party buff they bring is an extra 3% damage. Not physical or ranged damage. Damage. Meaning you can slap a hunter in your caster group and get 3% more damage out of that group.
    Warlocks are really strong because shadow priests are strong and they benefit the most from party buffs brought by hybrid classes. Especially the synergy with SPs make warlocks the beasts they are.
    More crit from moonkins / shamans / rets means more ISB uptime which means more mana regen from shadow priests.
    So by bringing a warlock over a warrior, you not only get more damage, but you get more damage from your priests and more mana for your healers. With more warlocks, you get more more shadowbolts flying which means you can afford to have more shadow priests that consume ISB stacks.
    What does a dps warrior bring? Improved battle shout? Kek. Okay, Blood Frenzy is a legit buff, but it's only melee damage.
    As stated in the video, having one melee group is still useful for some mechanics and to soak gear that would get disenchanted otherwise. Also, Warglaives makes warriors and rogues somewhat relevant since almost everything is a demon in tier 6 and 6.5. Also if you give glaives to your warrior, you lose Blood Frenzy.

    the reason melee suck in TBC is due to the fight mechanics favoring ranged. Also rogues and warriors are 2 of the strongest PVP classes in TBC so dont cry for them just yet. go roll a ranged class, there are 5 of them, and get invited instead of benched.

    YES. Ive been trying to tell this to people and I get the sideways look like Im crazy. God Im so tired of wow players not wanting to own their character and are simply youtuber proxy simon says parrots. I planned on going from dagger rogue main to holy priest to begin with because prayer of mending is the coolest spell ever, mass dispell, better spirit scaling and better selection of spirit pieces. Its just fun compared to vanilla to heal as holy IMO. But now Ive been considering staying rogue to shoe up the melee doom and gloomers.

    From personal experience in TBC (retail) and TBC private servers:
    Playing Combat spec dagger Rogue wont get you kicked from a raid, but only since you are not even invited. Rogues are close to useless before the majority of T6 content is on farm.
    Especially when TBC is fresh on TBC Classic Wow Rogues just suck. If I want to clear Karazhan in blue gear I'll bring 2 Tanks, 1 SPriest, 1 Heal Priest, 1 RShaman, 1 Ret Pally, 1 Elemental Shaman, 3 Warlocks.
    Just make a group with an Elemental Shaman, an SPriest and 3 Warlocks. The Rogue brings 0 buffs to the raid while the Ret deals comperative damage AND brings blessings...
