- I backpacked 18 miles along one of the most beautiful stretches of the Appalachian Trail - hiking in the rain, camping in a lightning storm, and experiencing the idyllic Roan Highlands with my mom and our dog, Mojo!
Carvers Gap to US 19E is about 16 miles total and a super popular backpacking trip. We ended up hiking a few miles extra because of an unexpected turn of events... you'll have to watch to see what happened. 😳

Now if she would just make something on doing a solo road trip/camp excursion to inspire my 20yo daughter to follow in her dad's footsteps and just get out there, instead of waiting around for friends who keep bailing on her. Life is way too short to not seize the adventure just because your friends are boring old poo poo heads. This is what you're missing Ginny. Get out there and experience the awesomness!!!

I had a shuttle driver drop me off at the Carver’s Gap parking lot and I hiked about 50 miles to a hostel. I think it has to be one of the prettiest sections of the AT. Our first night was spent at the Red Barn.
I also did the Smokies from Fontana to Newfound Gap this summer. It’s another great hike but definitely challenging. I had plans to hike to Cosby but some of the shelters were closed due to bears.
The Fontana/Newfound is on my list for next summer. How many night did you camp on that one?
I LOVED THIS VIDEO!!! I am getting my nerve up to do a solo backpacking trip from Carvers Gap to 19E an watching this gave me a little more "confidence" after seeing the area and those views !!!! I also think i will take my daughter now!
