That’s because China had the audacity to prevail. The “Sick Man” of Asia stood up in 1949 and has never been forgiven for it. The resources of China were meant to be for the exploitation of Japanese and Western Capital but the CPC and people of China had other plans.
My late mother (God bless her soul) was in China during all those years and she remembers how the Japanese citizens were taught to envy what China has in land and resources that were lacking in Japan. She doesn't hate the Japanese people but she certainly didn't like their leaders as they were the ones who led their people to war on China. However, there are many of my other relatives who want to see a "re-match:" with Japan - a Japan that was once mightier than China industrially and militarily but now, things may be a little different. They don't want to see a war but if Japan is as foolish to re-arm to make war on China again, the results may just be a little different than the last.
Actually Japanese troops often got defeated by the communist troops in China, most of the battles included the biggest ones won by China were fought by the communist troops. Most of the battles fought and lost by Kuominggang against the Japanese, but when Kuominggang started to work together with the communist troops they started to win the battles. Imagine if from the beginning of Japanese invasion, Kuominggang not targeted the communists but focused on cooperating with them in fighting the foreign invaders.

USA and Japan joint invaded China in 1901, they were allies. USA helped develop and modernized Japan, much of Japan's military was modernized by USA. General Yamamoto , the one who led the naval aircraft fleet to attack Pearl Habor, was trained in USA by USA military. Japan and Nazi Germany were allied with USA until WW2 started. Even Japan's aircraft carriers were built with USA's military assistance.

Most people don't know that Nanking had been made the capital city of China with the decision by the USA government. The ROC Kuominggang regime was following orders from its American boss. Just before the Japanese troops were going near Nanking, the Kuominggang regime and its military fled the city, leaving the civilians to defend themselves. The Americans there didn't have to fled because USA and Japan were still allies!

Not really, India was divided. Many local Raj princes actually welcomed the British as they were against the muslim Mughal Empire. British East Indian Company took advantage of that and controlled parts of India either by force or by collaboration with these local princes. China was ruled by the big Qing empire, although it is backward and losing its authority, it was still largely under a strong government. So the aim for the British was different. They basically wanted to open up the vast market and earn a lot of money through the trade of opium and tea. That’s why they only want to occupy coastal ports like Hong Kong and Shanghai. They don’t really have an appetite for governing such a vast territory by themselves as it would cost them too much. In the early 20th century, their main goal was to support warlords that would be open to foreign trade, so it doesn’t matter which warlord is controlling Beijing, as long as they play along with foreign traders. However, when Chiang Kai Shek started the northern expedition, it was another matter. One of the main fundamental principle of Kuomintang is nationalism and driving out western imperialists, and they are collaborating with the communists at first and received military aids from the Soviet Union. That was alarming to British and American. However, the situation changes as Japanese invaded China and they switched alliance to start to support the Chinese side.

The Meiji Restoration (1868-1912) was a watershed to Japanese history bringing not only industrialization and westernization but also imperialism to Japan. As with most imperialist countries unfortunately, Japan started its invasion of other countries in Asia including China starting in the beginning of the 20th century. Fortunately as for China becoming a strong power in the 21st century, it has its five thousand years of civilization keeping its “peace and prosperity” (以和為貴” philosophy. China does not invade other countries, instead with its BRI and other diplomatic means creates a multi-polar world with win-win situations for all countries.
Even before the Meiji restoration, Japanese pirates have been raiding the coastal villages around Korea for decades, always looking for a foothold but always driven back by the Koreans together with the aid of the Chinese until the latter part of the 18th century when China had become fat and weak under the Qing. The exploits of the Japanese invaders are burned into the collective memory of many Koreans to this day. So, Japanese intentions on taking over other lands did not start after the Meijo restoration. The ambitions were there and have been there for a very long time but they have not been realizable until the 20th century. And now, it looks like they want to go in for a second round - with the help of the U.S.A.
Half of the munitions Japan used to invade China in 1930s were supplied by USA! USA had been training Japan's military before the invasion of China. When Japanese troops were committing atrocities in Nanking, the USA governemnt representative officials in Nanking stood and watched but did nothing to stop the Japanese. At the time Nanking was made capital city of China by USA backed Kuomingang. There were Americans there. The USA governemnt was denying there was any Nanking massacre until the evidence was leaking, then the USA governemnt finally admitted it did happen.
They even helped them after the war. Letting war criminals get off scot-free, many going on to work for large Japanese organizations and the government. And the US made good use of their "experimental data on human beings". US had absolutely no intention of punishing war criminals. Those that were executed were just for show. This was also the time of the development of the Yellow Peril; that fear that Asian hordes would sweep over the Western world, raping, killing, and stealing. After the Sino-Japanese War 1894 to 1895, you had the Russo-Japanese War 1904 to 1905. Both wars were over Korea. The Aftermath of the 1st Sino-Japanese War was China losing Taiwan, and China lost Korea as tributary state. 9 years later there was another war over Korea, but this time with Russia. Before the Russo-Japanese War the Americans supported Japan.When Russia lost the war, Korea became a protectorate of Japan, and 5 years Japan annexed Korea. Teddy Roosevelt mediated the Treaty of Portsmouth, which greatly favored Japan. It allowed Japan to take control of Korea, Southern Manchuria, and Port Arthur. It allowed Japan to build a railway to Port Arthur, and annex southern half of Sakhalin Island from Russia. This gave the Japanese a foothold to invade China in the future. After Japan annexed Korea, it gave them a bridgehead to invade China. They also captured Port Arthur which is in Manchuria near Korea. This enabled Japan to take Manchuria next. In 1911, Japan built a bridge over the Yalu River from Korea to Manchuria. The US enabled Japan to do this.

James Bradley wrote a book titled "The Imperial Cruise" where he uses a raft of historical materials to make the argument that U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was actually the person who supplied and encouraged the Japanese to attack China, and it was even his idea for Japan to adopt a "East-Asain Co-Prosperity Sphere", modeled on the U.S. Monroe Doctrine. He, of course, wanted to use Japan to weaken the Russian position in Asia, especially in relation to China. However, he also would train Jiu-Jitsu at the White House and he expressed a love of the Japanese for their willingness to act and dress in European ways, so he desired them to rule China.
Indeed, this is true but what's often forgotten is that Japan's invasion of China wasn't totally for Chinese resourses and land but also to thwart Germany, France and particularly Russia - it was a "bonus" that they got to control much of China too

Remember in Qing dynasty China was ruled by the one of its 56 enthicities the Manuchurians who has a population of just 10 million even today. Thus China under such regime was extremely backwards once any foreign power arrived. Japan was the first Asian country to modernise so even Japan can harass China and came in to take whatever it wanted. Actually Japan was convinced that it could take over China completely even it didn’t have enough manpower. It did so by re-establish the Manchuria as a nation inside the country in the northeastern China, after Qing Emperor had already been overturned in China by then war lords. Japan then could control its emperor Puyi as a puppet. Thus Japan built cities, towns, settlements, factories, military establishment, laboratories, mining camps, railways and even made steel in the northeastern China for the long term occupation. Japan even put up reward for the Japanese population moved to China to start a new life there. What Japan and the rest of the world did not know is the Manchurians are not representative of the true Chinese with Han as the majority. The Manchurians had their own language but chose to adopt the more superior Han language, culture, traditions and governance that have existed for thousands of years but it didn’t allow the Han ethnicity in the major government positions. That is the reason why China under Qing dynasty was so weak and backward. Even a small country like Japan thought it could take advantage thinking it could conquer China. Japan today is just a puppet government of the US. It is a slave for the US as every major decision must serve the American interest first. That covers every political, economic and military development. Looking at Japan now most people wouldn’t understand why did Japan invade China. The fact is Japan is so small that it couldn’t possibly be a world power in WW2 unless it had the access to the Chinese resources by conducting a large scale genocide to the Chinese people.

You don’t seem to understand that the early Manchu emperors attempted to be a Han emperor to the Han Chinese, a Mongol emperor to the Mongols, a Tibetan emperor to the Tibetans, and so on. The Buddhist canon was translated and collated into five major languages. Even today, look on the back of a Chinese paper money and you will find five different languages. The Manchurians are have gradually ceased to use their language and have nearly become part of Han today. That is how Han develops. It is just a standardization of the Chinese language that has existed for over several thousands of years. Many different ethnicities over time have formed this majority by speaking and writing the same language, much like you and I are communicating with English. A large part of southern China, where I came from, historically was classified as barbarians and not Han. Today they are considered as Han except a few itribes in the autobomous regions. This is because they use the same Chinese language but the Cantonese dialect (main) and other dialects. Today Chinese in the South use Mandarin as the official dialect but Cantonese is still understood and popular with older generations. That is exactly the same situation in Tibet and Xinjiang. You will have a problem with the understanding of Han unless you accept that is used in the context of "Chinese". Korean, Vietnam and Japan use their own languages today but many of their historical publications have or even written in "Han" characters. These countries have tried to get rid of the Han characters but find they can no longer understand their own history so Han is said to be taught again in schools. Even today overseas Chinese, even with those from South Asian countries, still refer themselves being the "Tong" people because China was best known for its Tong and Han dynasties overseas. Each ethnicity is always proud of one's language, dialect and culture. However to communicate with other one need the commonly used language that has been nationally standardized. In UK Welsh people still insist on learning the Welsh language in schools and have their own TV stations but it is not understood even elsewhere in UK. Your complaint is like Welsh people objecting to English described superior to their own Welsh language! In that sense may be replacing "superior" with "convenient" will find wider acceptance.

Thanks Pu Ke, the problem with that topic is that it's just too broad and it's also, in many respects subjective - if I say the educaction system in China is perfect for the University system and that matches the working conditions of China - I could back all that up with cultural psychological support and prove it through quantitative and qualitative research but i'd be jumped on by thousands of people telling me I'm wrong, there's too much pressure, too many suicides, it doesn't prepare people for the real world and many other things - I could disagree with most of them but I can also understand why individuals would hold that opinion - it really is a difficult topic to approcah without uspetting many people
Their history of the world is taught by their leaders and the powerful media. It is not in their interest to inform their own citizens the wrongs they have done before. So even though the western learning method is different to that in China and seems to be more open, what people learn is still mostly biased against China, as there is no opportunity for them to learn the China’s side of the story. The accusation of China against the Xinjiang people is a typical example. Even the educated daughter of the pro China Western Australia businessman Andrew Forest is spreading rumours that China is using slave labour to manufacture solar panels in Xinjiang.

Japan's invavsion of China started in 1930s, some historians considered it was the actual beginning of WW2, that was how serious the invasion was. In the entire time of Japan's invasion of China from 1930s to 1945 when Japan lost in WW2, USA never sent its military to fight the Japanese troops in China. In WW2, Japan focused its military on China more than any other countries, but USA never sent its military to China to help it fight the Japanese. Near the end of WW2, it was the Chinese communist troops (they had to wear Nationalist army uniforms under the demanded condition by the Kuominggang regime's agreement to cooperation with the communudts) that went to fight Japanese troops in Southeast Asia and rescued the American POWs who had been held by Japanese military there. This is never mentioned by the USA government and media due to lost of their face. Same thing happened in Hong Kong, British POWs held by the Japanese military had to be rescued by the Chinese communist guerrilas! But as usual not a word on this is ever mentioned on this by the government or media in the west.
All true except that we neglect to mention Japan's occupation of China started in 1905 in Dalian - the problem was, the place they took over, they took from the Russians and the Russians had taken it from the British - Port Arthur - when Japanese took it, the US negotiated the outcome and left China out of it altogether as being insignificant - the Japanese inveasion of China started 30 years prior to the recognised invaion date.

When some people say China should be grateful it might be in reference to the aid the US provided via the flying tigers, land lease, etc. But the tigers weren't flying out of love for China, though some of its members might have grown to love the country and the people subsequently. They were essentially mercenaries who got paid for bringing down Japanese planes. And if you think about it, substantial supplies via the Burma Road and other routes only came after pearl harbour, when Japan bit its mentor in the butt. Maybe I'm missing something about why China has to be grateful. All nations were just after their own interest.
Correct, there was no input at all from the US military until after Pearl Harbor. As far as I know, any US servicemen operating in China was doing so as a volunteer - probably in the same way they "volunteer" in Ukraine now

Japan invaded south east Asia included Indonesia where I live. At that time Indonesia was a Dutch colony. Around ~1920 Japanese generals disguised as shop keepers settled in central Java with wife kids , they were friendly with local folk and rented a home and were good polite tenants. In ~ 1941 they sent family back to Japan and became generals with army occupying whole Java island. They siezed properties from rich citizens at sable point. The Dutch families were brought to open prison in miserable condition, locals were tortured raped, a most brutal occupation. US bombed Nagasaki Hiroshima , Japan surrendered in 1945. At that moment our first president had the courage to declare independence of Indonesia, the Dutch returned to Netherlands in 1945 -1957.

The last part of your message is one big fat lies, the narratives of America dropping two A-Bomb to save China and SEA nation is simply BS. Japan invaded China on 1937, what took America that long(after 5years) to liberate China and all other invaded nation? There is alot of factor why Japan surrendered but they(JP) didn't do so after first bomb drop at Hiroshima because JP still have close to 700k soldier station outside of Japan. Japan’s first attempt to conquer China was in 1592 by Hideyoshi. He invaded the Korean peninsular and did many atrocities but the Ming emperor sent 20000 troops to help the Korean, they managed to defeat the Japanese samurai and forced them to surrender. Hideyoshi attack the second time and was defeated again by the Ming emperor’s army as the Koreans were at that time protected by the Ming dynasty. The third time was in the 19th century when japan had become an industrial country and needed oil. The relationship between japan and China was like Cain and Abel because they came from the same ancient people along the yellow river. May be you can put a video about the history of japan from before 300BC till 700AD when japan created her own identity.

How about we go even further back in time. Mongolia did try to invade Japanese via the Korean Peninsula. And even further back in Qin dynasty, there were legends that Xu Fu under the Chinese emperor’s request to find the potion for immortal, sailed east and probably defeated the indigenous Ainu tribes in Japan and they integrated to become the Japanese as we know.

It appears Japan still has an allure for Taiwan and there are those in Taiwan that are pro-Japan, the most famous is the past president, Tsai Ing-wen.

A lot of people didn't know that Japan took part in WWI on the side of the "allies" against Germany. It seems Japan's participation was solely for the approval and respect of the Western countries. But after WWI ended and at the Paris conference, the "allies" completely snubbed Japan. Japan wanted Germany's colony in China, but was ignored. So, Japan decided to go carve out a piece of China for itself and as WWII got on its way, they join up with Germany. The funny thing is that since the late 1800s, Japan though they were a part of the "incrowd", the colonizers, especially since it was the US that gave them the equipment that allowed them to successfully invade so many countries, including China. But, they failed to understand that to the west, they were just another pawn. Now, they're no more than one of the two exotic East Asian pets of the west. The favourite of the 2, but nothing more than a pet, nonetheless. They got into the G7 only because they were colonizers. It seems not many noticed that ALL the countries in G7 were at one point colonizers.
Even before WW1 Japan had parts of China but it's not recognised in Western histroy because the parts they had were taken from Russians, despite being in China!

Good point of re-examining history using our present day lenses as geopolitical events unfold in front us. It is pretty the same set of colonial characters creating chaos in the world. We are seeing the same behavior today.

According to my reading, Halford Mackinder was a clever young British student in the late 1800's who gave a lecture about how the discipline of geography had hit a wall because by then the whole world had been mapped, so it needed to evolve beyond cartography into studying how geography shapes the power and interactions of states. So he founded 'geopolitics.' His main theory was that sea power had proven decisive for building the British empire, but that the land mass of Russia was too big and too naturally protected to be vulnerable to sea power. He advocated keeping Eastern European states independent of Russia. Spykman was an American who refined the theory a bit and wrote about it in the 1940's, becoming known as the godfather of containment.
The reason of the Japanese invasion are: 1. Japan gained huge benefits from war with China and Russia around 1900, 2. China was at its weakest time during 1930s due to the civil war between KMT and CCP, and even worse China was not united at that time, there were many warlords in different provinces.
I don't know if USA had something to do with the Japanese Invasion in the 1930s, but it's true that selling the idea of occupying the isle of Taiwan to Japan was from an American man. btw the excuse of a Japanese soilder gone missing so they would send troops to search him, similar to what the US did to Dominican Republic in the 1910s.

I've thought about it but I'm not an historian, just an informed observer with a little research - there is however a book load of material here on how the informatino we have is mismanfed - I am thinking of doing a series on Mao, and how he has been misunderstood - but again, it's a book, not a script - it might take me years to put it all together but I think I will find some different aspects and share his life story from a Chinese perspective

Thank you for saying something which is sorely left out of so many geopolitical discussions. The fact that very few, if any, geopolitical events are the result of a single cause. Every major geopolitical event, be it a war, a famine, a border dispute, etc. generally has multiple reasons behind them. For some reason, at least in America, we always seem to focus on a single cause for any international incident or economic event/outcome, but virtually all of them are a result of multiple causes.
Geopolitical events are by definition caused by politics, which are manipulated by politicians and military leaders for their own agendas. Unfortunately the ordinary citizens have no say. Not even in the so called democratic countries. Simply look at America. You vote for the next president but you don’t have a say in what they will do next. They may start WWIII. It is out of your control.
The main reason was that Japan was fully westernized. At that time, the Western powers relied on colonization to develop themselves, so Japan planned to invade and colonize China like the Western powers.

During Chinese Imperial times, Korea was a vassal state, prone to invasions of Japanese for resources long before the industrial revolution. Even further back with piracy during Tang/Song/Yuan/Ming/Qing etc. - Just had to mention that.

That’s because China had the audacity to prevail. The “Sick Man” of Asia stood up in 1949 and has never been forgiven for it. The resources of China were meant to be for the exploitation of Japanese and Western Capital but the CPC and people of China had other plans.
My late mother (God bless her soul) was in China during all those years and she remembers how the Japanese citizens were taught to envy what China has in land and resources that were lacking in Japan. She doesn't hate the Japanese people but she certainly didn't like their leaders as they were the ones who led their people to war on China. However, there are many of my other relatives who want to see a "re-match:" with Japan - a Japan that was once mightier than China industrially and militarily but now, things may be a little different. They don't want to see a war but if Japan is as foolish to re-arm to make war on China again, the results may just be a little different than the last.
Actually Japanese troops often got defeated by the communist troops in China, most of the battles included the biggest ones won by China were fought by the communist troops. Most of the battles fought and lost by Kuominggang against the Japanese, but when Kuominggang started to work together with the communist troops they started to win the battles. Imagine if from the beginning of Japanese invasion, Kuominggang not targeted the communists but focused on cooperating with them in fighting the foreign invaders.

General Yamamoto , the one who led the naval aircraft fleet to attack Pearl Habor, was trained in USA by USA military. Japan and Nazi Germany were allied with USA until WW2 started. Even Japan's aircraft carriers were built with USA's military assistance.

Most people don't know the truth about the Nanking Massacre, there was more to that, it involved USA government, not only it didn't stop or try to stop it, the American government and military officials stationed there refused to help the Chinese civilians who were being butchered. Most people don't know that Nanking had been made the capital city of China with the decision by the USA government. The ROC Kuominggang regime was following orders from its American boss.
Just before the Japanese troops were going near Nanking, the Kuominggang regime and its military fled the city, leaving the civilians to defend themselves. The Americans there didn't have to fled because USA and Japan were still allies!

Not really, India was divided. Many local Raj princes actually welcomed the British as they were against the muslim Mughal Empire. British East Indian Company took advantage of that and controlled parts of India either by force or by collaboration with these local princes. China was ruled by the big Qing empire, although it is backward and losing its authority, it was still largely under a strong government. So the aim for the British was different. They basically wanted to open up the vast market and earn a lot of money through the trade of opium and tea. That’s why they only want to occupy coastal ports like Hong Kong and Shanghai. They don’t really have an appetite for governing such a vast territory by themselves as it would cost them too much. In the early 20th century, their main goal was to support warlords that would be open to foreign trade, so it doesn’t matter which warlord is controlling Beijing, as long as they play along with foreign traders. However, when Chiang Kai Shek started the northern expedition, it was another matter. One of the main fundamental principle of Kuomintang is nationalism and driving out western imperialists, and they are collaborating with the communists at first and received military aids from the Soviet Union. That was alarming to British and American. However, the situation changes as Japanese invaded China and they switched alliance to start to support the Chinese side.

The Brits calculated they would have total control of China by the 21st century, but this was Victorian times when the Brits had a navy they believed was invincible. The Meiji Restoration (1868-1912) was a watershed to Japanese history bringing not only industrialization and westernization but also imperialism to Japan. As with most imperialist countries unfortunately, Japan started its invasion of other countries in Asia including China starting in the beginning of the 20th century.
Fortunately as for China becoming a strong power in the 21st century, it has its five thousand years of civilization keeping its “peace and prosperity” (以和為貴” philosophy. China does not invade other countries, instead with its BRI and other diplomatic means creates a multi-polar world with win-win situations for all countries.
Even before the Meiji restoration, Japanese pirates have been raiding the coastal villages around Korea for decades, always looking for a foothold but always driven back by the Koreans together with the aid of the Chinese until the latter part of the 18th century when China had become fat and weak under the Qing. The exploits of the Japanese invaders are burned into the collective memory of many Koreans to this day. So, Japanese intentions on taking over other lands did not start after the Meijo restoration. The ambitions were there and have been there for a very long time but they have not been realizable until the 20th century.

After the Sino-Japanese War 1894 to 1895, you had the Russo-Japanese War 1904 to 1905. Both wars were over Korea.
The Aftermath of the 1st Sino-Japanese War was China losing Taiwan, and China lost Korea as tributary state. 9 years later there was another war over Korea, but this time with Russia. Before the Russo-Japanese War the Americans supported Japan.When Russia lost the war, Korea became a protectorate of Japan, and 5 years Japan annexed Korea. Teddy Roosevelt mediated the Treaty of Portsmouth, which greatly favored Japan. It allowed Japan to take control of Korea, Southern Manchuria, and Port Arthur. It allowed Japan to build a railway to Port Arthur, and annex southern half of Sakhalin Island from Russia. This gave the Japanese a foothold to invade China in the future.
After Japan annexed Korea, it gave them a bridgehead to invade China. They also captured Port Arthur which is in Manchuria near Korea. This enabled Japan to take Manchuria next. In 1911, Japan built a bridge over the Yalu River from Korea to Manchuria. The US enabled Japan to do this.

Remember in Qing dynasty China was ruled by the one of its 56 enthicities the Manuchurians who has a population of just 10 million even today. Thus China under such regime was extremely backwards once any foreign power arrived. Japan was the first Asian country to modernise so even Japan can harass China and came in to take whatever it wanted.
Actually Japan was convinced that it could take over China completely even it didn’t have enough manpower. It did so by re-establish the Manchuria as a nation inside the country in the northeastern China, after Qing Emperor had already been overturned in China by then war lords. Japan then could control its emperor Puyi as a puppet. Thus Japan built cities, towns, settlements, factories, military establishment, laboratories, mining camps, railways and even made steel in the northeastern China for the long term occupation. Japan even put up reward for the Japanese population moved to China to start a new life there.
What Japan and the rest of the world did not know is the Manchurians are not representative of the true Chinese with Han as the majority. The Manchurians had their own language but chose to adopt the more superior Han language, culture, traditions and governance that have existed for thousands of years but it didn’t allow the Han ethnicity in the major government positions. That is the reason why China under Qing dynasty was so weak and backward. Even a small country like Japan thought it could take advantage thinking it could conquer China.
Japan today is just a puppet government of the US. It is a slave for the US as every major decision must serve the American interest first. That covers every political, economic and military development. Looking at Japan now most people wouldn’t understand why did Japan invade China. The fact is Japan is so small that it couldn’t possibly be a world power in WW2 unless it had the access to the Chinese resources by conducting a large scale genocide to the Chinese people.

They sold their children just to live for one more year. The streets were full of beggars. The Manchurians are have gradually ceased to use their language and have nearly become part of Han today. That is how Han develops. It is just a standardization of the Chinese language that has existed for over several thousands of years. Many different ethnicities over time have formed this majority by speaking and writing the same language, much like you and I are communicating with English.
A large part of southern China, where I came from, historically was classified as barbarians and not Han. Today they are considered as Han except a few itribes in the autobomous regions. This is because they use the same Chinese language but the Cantonese dialect (main) and other dialects. Today Chinese in the South use Mandarin as the official dialect but Cantonese is still understood and popular with older generations. That is exactly the same situation in Tibet and Xinjiang.
You will have a problem with the understanding of Han unless you accept that is used in the context of "Chinese". Korean, Vietnam and Japan use their own languages today but many of their historical publications have or even written in "Han" characters. These countries have tried to get rid of the Han characters but find they can no longer understand their own history so Han is said to be taught again in schools. Even today overseas Chinese, even with those from South Asian countries, still refer themselves being the "Tong" people because China was best known for its Tong and Han dynasties overseas.
Each ethnicity is always proud of one's language, dialect and culture. However to communicate with other one need the commonly used language that has been nationally standardized. In UK Welsh people still insist on learning the Welsh language in schools and have their own TV stations but it is not understood even elsewhere in UK. Your complaint is like Welsh people objecting to English described superior to their own Welsh language! In that sense may be replacing "superior" with "convenient" will find wider acceptance.

Thanks Pu Ke, the problem with that topic is that it's just too broad and it's also, in many respects subjective - if I say the educaction system in China is perfect for the University system and that matches the working conditions of China - I could back all that up with cultural psychological support and prove it through quantitative and qualitative research but i'd be jumped on by thousands of people telling me I'm wrong, there's too much pressure, too many suicides, it doesn't prepare people for the real world and many other things - I could disagree with most of them but I can also understand why individuals would hold that opinion - it really is a difficult topic to approcah without uspetting many people
Their history of the world is taught by their leaders and the powerful media. It is not in their interest to inform their own citizens the wrongs they have done before. So even though the western learning method is different to that in China and seems to be more open, what people learn is still mostly biased against China, as there is no opportunity for them to learn the China’s side of the story. The accusation of China against the Xinjiang people is a typical example. Even the educated daughter of the pro China Western Australia businessman Andrew Forest is spreading rumours that China is using slave labour to manufacture solar panels in Xinjiang.

Japan's invavsion of China started in 1930s, some historians considered it was the actual beginning of WW2, that was how serious the invasion was. In the entire time of Japan's invasion of China from 1930s to 1945 when Japan lost in WW2, USA never sent its military to fight the Japanese troops in China. In WW2, Japan focused its military on China more than any other countries, but USA never sent its military to China to help it fight the Japanese.
Near the end of WW2, it was the Chinese communist troops (they had to wear Nationalist army uniforms under the demanded condition by the Kuominggang regime's agreement to cooperation with the communudts) that went to fight Japanese troops in Southeast Asia and rescued the American POWs who had been held by Japanese military there. This is never mentioned by the USA government and media due to lost of their face.
Same thing happened in Hong Kong, British POWs held by the Japanese military had to be rescued by the Chinese communist guerrilas! But as usual not a word on this is ever mentioned on this by the government or media in the west.
All true except that we neglect to mention Japan's occupation of China started in 1905 in Dalian - the problem was, the place they took over, they took from the Russians and the Russians had taken it from the British - Port Arthur - when Japanese took it, the US negotiated the outcome and left China out of it altogether as being insignificant - the Japanese inveasion of China started 30 years prior to the recognised invaion date.

When some people say China should be grateful it might be in reference to the aid the US provided via the flying tigers, land lease, etc. But the tigers weren't flying out of love for China, though some of its members might have grown to love the country and the people subsequently. They were essentially mercenaries who got paid for bringing down Japanese planes. And if you think about it, substantial supplies via the Burma Road and other routes only came after pearl harbour, when Japan bit its mentor in the butt. Maybe I'm missing something about why China has to be grateful. All nations were just after their own interest.
Correct, there was no input at all from the US military until after Pearl Harbor. As far as I know, any US servicemen operating in China was doing so as a volunteer - probably in the same way they "volunteer" in Ukraine now

Japan invaded south east Asia included Indonesia where I live. At that time Indonesia was a Dutch colony. Around ~1920 Japanese generals disguised as shop keepers settled in central Java with wife kids , they were friendly with local folk and rented a home and were good polite tenants. In ~ 1941 they sent family back to Japan and became generals with army occupying whole Java island. They siezed properties from rich citizens at sable point. The Dutch families were brought to open prison in miserable condition, locals were tortured raped, a most brutal occupation. US bombed Nagasaki Hiroshima , Japan surrendered in 1945. At that moment our first president had the courage to declare independence of Indonesia, the Dutch returned to Netherlands in 1945 -1957.

He invaded the Korean peninsular and did many atrocities but the Ming emperor sent 20000 troops to help the Korean, they managed to defeat the Japanese samurai and forced them to surrender. Hideyoshi attack the second time and was defeated again by the Ming emperor’s army as the Koreans were at that time protected by the Ming dynasty. The third time was in the 19th century when japan had become an industrial country and needed oil. The relationship between japan and China was like Cain and Abel because they came from the same ancient people along the yellow river. May be you can put a video about the history of japan from before 300BC till 700AD when japan created her own identity.

Japan's ambition to conquer East Asia in its entirety was evidently clear during the Hideyoshi's invasion of Korea from 1592 to 1596, well before industrialization, even then they wanted to use the Korean peninsula as a jumping board to reach China. The Korean and Chinese (Ming) joint troops fought back the invaders valiantly. The Sino-Japanese War in the 1930s was just a continuation of the previous one, even though a few hundred years apart.

It does not appear that Japan appreciates that forgiveness should never be taken for granted. It continues to beg for a real lesson.
The Japanese think that all of the countries in Asia their Imperial Japanese forefather soldiers have violated, have forgiven and forgotten how their relatives have been treated. Neither the Chinese nor the Korean nor the Filipinos nor the Indonesians nor the Burmese (Myamans) have forgotten and the burning desire for a blood debt to be claimed is still there. Forgiven, perhaps but not forgotten and not forgotten means that the embers are still glowing in the pyre that can easily become a roaring fire once again. So, the Japanese have better take this into account.

It appears history is repeating itself as the US helps Japan with its military to expand. The current government has a right wing element that has rewritten Japan's history of WW2, denying or glossing over the Nanjing massacre. It appears Japan still has an allure for Taiwan and there are those in Taiwan that are pro-Japan, the most famous is the past president, Tsai Ing-wen.
More correctly, the most famous Japan-hugging leader in Taiwan is the kimono-wearing late President Lee Teng-hui (1923-2020). Lee was Tsai’s mentor in the political court of intrigues in Taiwan.
I read somewhere that Tsai Ing Wen has Japanese lineage or of Japanese decent.

Japan had a long history of invading other countries after going through political system reform. I just list the big ones:
1) Battle of Baekgang 663AD (after Taika Reform 645 - 654)
2) Toyotomi Hideyoshi's Invasion of Korea 1592AD（After the Sengoku period, Toyotomi Hideyoshi walked out as the winner)
3) Annexation of Okinawa (after Meiji restoration 1860 - 80)
4) First Sino-Japanese War 1894 and invasion of in China 1931, part of WWII, pearl harbor (after Meiji restoration 1860 - 80)
5) AND the invasion of South East Asian countries.
Japan committed genocide on all maybe except number 1. I can't find any info because the battle only lasted one day.

(Russia had similar claims on the disputed territory of eastern Siberia earlier with China, saying Russia was the Successor State of the Mongol Empire because one of the Mongolian princess married the Tsar emperor....Another interesting point, Russia also claimed lineage/successor relationship to Byzantium Empire. When the Ottoman empire conquered Istanbul, the King had one of his niece married the Tsar emperor in hope to form an alliance to fight the Turks, but was too late. The term "Tsar" actually came from ”Caesar“ --> sar because the Roman king called themself ”Caesar“ of whom lay the foundation of Rome. "Russia" is named after a Sweden town "Roden" which today's name Roslagen. That was the place of origin of the Viking Pirates who robbed the town of Kiev, today's Ukraine city....but the people of Kiev tired of being robbed by difference group of pirates and asked the Vikings to stay...Today's Russian people are the decedents of Northern European Vikings and eastern Europeans who resided in Kiev during 890s AD. A lot of people didn't know that Japan took part in WWI on the side of the "allies" against Germany. It seems Japan's participation was solely for the approval and respect of the Western countries. But after WWI ended and at the Paris conference, the "allies" completely snubbed Japan. Japan wanted Germany's colony in China, but was ignored.
So, Japan decided to go carve out a piece of China for itself and as WWII got on its way, they join up with Germany.
The funny thing is that since the late 1800s, Japan though they were a part of the "incrowd", the colonizers, especially since it was the US that gave them the equipment that allowed them to successfully invade so many countries, including China. But, they failed to understand that to the west, they were just another pawn. Now, they're no more than one of the two exotic East Asian pets of the west. The favourite of the 2, but nothing more than a pet, nonetheless. They got into the G7 only because they were colonizers. It seems not many noticed that ALL the countries in G7 were at one point colonizers.
Even before WW1 Japan had parts of China but it's not recognised in Western histroy because the parts they had were taken from Russians, despite being in China!

Good point of re-examining history using our present day lenses as geopolitical events unfold in front us. It is pretty the same set of colonial characters creating chaos in the world. We are seeing the same behavior today.

According to my reading, Halford Mackinder was a clever young British student in the late 1800's who gave a lecture about how the discipline of geography had hit a wall because by then the whole world had been mapped, so it needed to evolve beyond cartography into studying how geography shapes the power and interactions of states. So he founded 'geopolitics.' His main theory was that sea power had proven decisive for building the British empire, but that the land mass of Russia was too big and too naturally protected to be vulnerable to sea power. He advocated keeping Eastern European states independent of Russia. Spykman was an American who refined the theory a bit and wrote about it in the 1940's, becoming known as the godfather of containment.
The reason of the Japanese invasion are: 1. Japan gained huge benefits from war with China and Russia around 1900, 2. China was at its weakest time during 1930s due to the civil war between KMT and CCP, and even worse China was not united at that time, there were many warlords in different provinces.
I don't know if USA had something to do with the Japanese Invasion in the 1930s, but it's true that selling the idea of occupying the isle of Taiwan to Japan was from an American man. btw the excuse of a Japanese soilder gone missing so they would send troops to search him, similar to what the US did to Dominican Republic in the 1910s.

I've thought about it but I'm not an historian, just an informed observer with a little research - there is however a book load of material here on how the informatino we have is mismanfed - I am thinking of doing a series on Mao, and how he has been misunderstood - but again, it's a book, not a script - it might take me years to put it all together but I think I will find some different aspects and share his life story from a Chinese perspective

Thank you for saying something which is sorely left out of so many geopolitical discussions. The fact that very few, if any, geopolitical events are the result of a single cause. Every major geopolitical event, be it a war, a famine, a border dispute, etc. generally has multiple reasons behind them. For some reason, at least in America, we always seem to focus on a single cause for any international incident or economic event/outcome, but virtually all of them are a result of multiple causes.
Geopolitical events are by definition caused by politics, which are manipulated by politicians and military leaders for their own agendas. Unfortunately the ordinary citizens have no say. Not even in the so called democratic countries. Simply look at America. You vote for the next president but you don’t have a say in what they will do next. They may start WWIII. It is out of your control.

The main reason was that Japan was fully westernized. At that time, the Western powers relied on colonization to develop themselves, so Japan planned to invade and colonize China like the Western powers.

During Chinese Imperial times, Korea was a vassal state, prone to invasions of Japanese for resources long before the industrial revolution. Even further back with piracy during Tang/Song/Yuan/Ming/Qing etc. - Just had to mention that.

I'm certain there would be - we know that there is a campaign to discredit China and to prod them into the first "aggressive action" so that the US can claim they were provoked into action - There was the "Strategy of Denial" written by Elbridge Colby and there would be others too.
